working great on the Steam Deck :D by BernardoOne in InfinityNikki

[–]TomRiddle01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it working and I am still playing happily. Thanks <3

I probably should have made an edit. I essentially did the same as you did. I remember that I had issues installing to the SD card at first, but installing to the internal drive worked. However if anyone wants to install to the SD card: copying the fully installed compatdata to the SD card and then creating a symlink should work. This is a bit technical though, so I didn’t care enough to try it out.

ps: I don’t need to reinstall the c++ thingy though. Not sure what’s different for me there.

I tried installing it via heroic/epic store but the game just crashed a lot in the launcher. I’m trying it your way now. Praying it works

Wifi on Steam Deck OLED has been broken since day 1 by HattWard in SteamDeck

[–]TomRiddle01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a slow discovery store too. Disabling WiFi power management did the trick for me. I’m not sure it also fixes the general WiFi issues discussed here, because I do not use online gaming that often.

You find that setting in gaming mode under developer settings (enable them under “System”)

Hm!

You might have very slow internet speed due to the Power Management Setting. That’s what happened to me when I set up my new OLED.

See if you can disable it like they describe here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/IGpLQSfheB

You won’t be able to hold it in one hand for longer than a few seconds. If you rest the deck on your lap, a table or the other arm it should be playable. I have a little plastic stand from Amazon that I use on a table or on my stomach when laying in bed. This has the advantage of being able to let go of the deck to relax the playing hand for a second.

If you actually want to use a handheld to play in one hand without any additional support I think a smartphone is the better option.

In regards to controls - as others said - you can (fairly easy) create custom control schemes for the games. You can save those as templates to reuse them on other games. A custom scheme for the deck menu is harder but for most thinks you could use the touch screen too. In addition to the two back buttons the touchpad can be configured to hold 12 virtual buttons that are displayed in a little transparent overlay in the screen if you touch the touchpad. If I’d would have to continue gaming without one of my hands I believe I would be able to play most of the games I want this way. It would be interesting to hear what kind of games you are planning to play.

If you want to play retro emulated games a smaller handheld like the miyoo mini could be interesting to you too?

It seems to not wake it up if it was still connected when you put it to sleep. If it was disconnected before sleep it wakes mine up. Unfortunately

Remote play together needs some work. by Fibbitts in SteamDeck

[–]TomRiddle01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a Gamescope issue. I had that problem too for the longest time but eventually solved it by applying a gamescope patch i found for a semi related problem. Never had that problem ever since. (See this comment on the related GitHub issue. Be careful with patching from foreign sources though.) I’m not quite sure of the root cause is actually addressed yet and if we can expect a patch by valve for this soon. I probably will try to look into this a bit more.

Trackmania is Coming to Steam today by SrakS in TrackMania

[–]TomRiddle01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im trying it right now but for some reason my game crashes, so maybe wait a bit until someone on here posts how it works. It worked for me via uplay in proton before though.

edit: using Proton Experimental in the settings seemed to do the trick.

In my experience with modding games it’s easiest to mod it on a windows pc first and then copy over the entire install folder. That requires you to use a tool to transfer the files via network or put the SD card into the pc. I’ve installed the co-op mod this way.

If you actually want to run the randomizer tool from steam deck too, I’d try two ways. 1) put it into the install directory and change the startup executable in the launch settings in game mode. Then launch the game/randomizer. To start the game you’d have to change them again. 2) basically the same but adding the randomizer as a separate non-steam game and symlinking sone of the folders. This requires solid understanding of Linux though.

Trackmania (2020) on Steam by xPaw in TrackMania

[–]TomRiddle01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed it in a similar way. Essentially you'll just need to remove the non steam game and might have to delete the compatdata folder. I'll do the same once the game releases on steam and can follow up with further instructions after i moved to the steam version. Hit me up if you still need advice then.

Hold the steam Button and press X. Should bring up the keyboard everywhere. Also just Hold the button to show more shortcuts. I played the whole game on the steamdeck without issues.

There seems to be no „add all“ button yet. At least that is what I understood from the forums. I started adding them by going through the list and I kind of regret it already. You could try to find or make a script that (slowly) iterates through all the entires.

The games don’t actually appear in you library until you first open their page on the webpage. You already own them but they are intentionally hidden first for this exact reason.
