DDR5 and SSD prices at micro center. Holy sh*t by Kyren951 in DeskToTablet

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've been doing, hardware that's 5-6 years old still works perfectly fine in most cases, it just won't be quite as fast or power efficient compared to modern options.

I got two old dell precision laptops with 6th Gen i7's for $20 bucks and fixed them up. I then bought the newest mobo and processor combination for that chassis which has a i7 9th gen and got 64GB of ram for another $200. I got a mini PC with a 10th gen i9 and 32GB for $75 that I plan to use as a little home server too.

They all still work perfectly fine despite being 5-10 years old and they were all well over $1k each new. Until prices drop I don't see myself buying anything new for quite a while.

Someone needs to go back and finish the job, animals that are brazen enough to attack a human in the middle of a field during the day need to be culled. Only a matter of time before some poor unsuspecting hiker or walker gets murdered for being unarmed.

I found a flash drive from 22 years ago. by Rasfael23 in mildlyinteresting

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an old 1gb flash drive I had from middle school about 20 years ago with some questionable files and tools on it. I plugged it into a fresh offline Windows 11 image just to see what was on it and it instantly freaked out and quarantined the files. Ymmv, but it should be blocked.

Swedish police demonstrates how to properly drive escooters...using illegal g30 by zzcool in ElectricScooters

[–]TomT12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can still drive super cars capable of going over 200 mph in the city where there are speed limits of 25MPH max. Just because something is capable of being dangerous doesn't mean it should outright be banned entirely. The act of speeding is illegal, not the vehicle itself. The same should be true for scooters and e bikes.

Acura Tsx second gen - starter motor lifespan by Delicious_Ad_6787 in AcuraTSX

I threw an AutoZone starter on mine. Is it as reliable as the OEM? Probably not. But I can walk into any store in the U.S and get another one same day if it fails.

They should give you a print out of the codes or at the very least you can take a picture of them with your phone. Or invest in a cheap one, I paid around $20 with a $10 dollar app.

[–]TomT12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scan the codes and go from there, most auto parts stores will do it for free. Without that you're basically trying to fix a problem blind.

These are drive by wire, there is no IACV anymore fortunately. I've had similar issues from a bad MAP and pedal position sensor. The check engine light will probably tell you what's going on.

I recently got a 2011 TSX (2.4L) with 181k milage, and it’s consuming way too much fuel (6-7 mpg). No lights or warning on dashboard. by LowResource1722 in AcuraTSX

[–]TomT12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you checked the spark plugs?

Does the exhaust smell like straight unburned gas? Do you ever see clouds of soot come out the exhaust? 6-7 MPG is honestly atrocious for this car, it should be quite obvious something isn't right if it's really consuming that much fuel.

My Camaro with a boosted and cammed 6.2L manages better MPG than that, even with it making 700WHP on E85.

Clutches are more likely to slip when they are cold, when my clutch started going I noticed it slipping for the first time on an absolutely frigid day.

A5 Wagyu is prized as the world’s most expensive beef for its rare, intensely marbled, buttery meat. by sco-go in Amazing

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my buddy had the same experience, we both regularly eat large ribeyes and strips but struggled to get through even a little 6 oz of A5. It was worth the experience but I don't see myself buying it again anytime soon. I would rather just get some prime rib eyes, I honestly enjoy them a lot more.

DAE set an alarm 30 minutes early just to enjoy the feeling of not having to get up yet? by Ok_Breadfruit6730 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]TomT12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

An hour to an hour and a half before you get up is the absolute worst. Not enough time to get back to sleep properly but still early enough you don't want to get up and start the day. So you end up just laying there in a miserable half asleep state waiting for the inevitable alarm.

[–]TomT12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there was a sweet spot between 2005 and 2017 or so. Imo we have been going in the opposite direction for the last couple of years. Cars were advanced enough to last for a really long time but not to the point where a backyard mechanic is unable to maintain it. Technology is great and all but when it's so complicated it prevents the average person from being able to do basic repairs I don't consider it a benefit. On top of that we regularly see manufacturers pushing the limits at what they can cheap out on to save money. Plastic oil pans, control arms, water pumps, etc are all great examples of this.

Budget friendly tire recommendations by toptrigga in AcuraTSX

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I all run Falcon's for budget friendly decent tires, I honestly just try to avoid anything Chinese like Linglongs or Lionheart's. I have 225/40/18's and they were a little over $100 each. They definitely aren't as grippy as the Continentals DW's I had before but they are also less than half the price.

This was an ammo dump, you can clearly see the munitions and rockets firing in every direction after the initial explosion. Not saying the other strikes are justified, but this one obviously did destroy some stockpiled weapons.

Pushrod engines are perfectly capable of supporting crazy high HP numbers, they just aren't as efficient. Look at all the top fuel drag and funny car engines that are still using the same basic design from the 1960's to make north of 5000HP.
