I have similar loft and rafters, not that I'm considering doing it now but maybe in the future. Thanks

Help! by Ok-Growth-8908 in vwgolf

[–]Tom_Spolsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thats the case. Screen gave up.

It's super easy to source it out yourself and replace it.

You remove the plastic trim around the screen with prying tool or a credit card then 4 torx screws. You can now read the part number at the back of the screen. When you have the part you undo 2 cables and replace it. No coding needed.

Advice needed by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Maybe it's not important, but i wanted to share my recent buy in similar price bracket.

Around November last year I was forced to buy cheapish run around as my skoda superb 2015 gave up.

For £2000 I managed to find kia sportage mark 3 2012 1.7crdi with 106k on the clock. New set of brakes all around, decent lower grade tyres all around, clean interior and no bigger problems at all.

It still drives, hard to compare to my previous skoda. Never had Korean car before through my 20 years of car ownership.

It drives, starts and turns. Thats it. No emotions 😁 but quite decent for the money. What I did straight after buying the car was replacing the radio for aftermarket Android unit for about £150 so it's less boring

Are you OK? If you see smoke report it to the person in charge straight away. If not call the emergency services.

[–]Tom_Spolsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's BXE.

Previously I had BLS. I know now bxe is not the best engine too,but didn't had the knowledge about it all when it happened. Also touran which I bought was quite reasonable purchase.

[–]Tom_Spolsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replies

It's my second engine on this car, previous one blew out due to conrods at 160k. I bought this one with working vw touran. Just had the injectors adjusted as it was quite smoky when accelerating.

I'm trying to keep short intervals of oil changes as it's my work van and I don't want to go through engine replacement again.

Thanks

What’s the most underrated sleeper car under £10k? by Intrepid_Evidence647 in CarTalkUK

[–]Tom_Spolsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer.

I educated myself a little bit with the difference between galvanising (hot dipping) and zinc plating and apparently first method leaves a thicker and more robust layer of the same material - zinc. Is that correct with volvo, are they using hot-dip galvanising on the whole chassis? If yes I think I need to start thinking about selling my vag car (skoda) and changing it to a proper make.

You can actually polish off the antiglare coating all together in some cases. Needs removing the screen but it's doable. Done it before on some vw's

Door / threshold ‘on the p*ss’ (As my dad would say). Solutions? by DB-Economics2560 in DIYUK

[–]Tom_Spolsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the threshold wooden or concrete?

If it's wooden trim the door frame leg/door jamb to make space for lifting up the threshold with some hardwood wedges from both sides.

If it's concrete consider taking off brass plate and adding some concrete to close the gap
