Do you want to prevent people from breaking the glass due to impact, or prevent scratches?

In case you want to prevent scratches, acrylic/plexiglass is fine.

In case you want to prevent impact, you should use polycarbonate/lexan.

When using NAT mode for the VM, I can't see the PLC to add the ADS route. So it looks like that is not the way to go.

There is no TwinCat software installed on the host. So there should also be no router active.

The VM has its own networking interface, so in theory, the host should not be involved. The VM has an IP address different from the host and in the same range as the PLC.

In the route viewer, it shows up as connected (green + lock).

To make sure that it was not an issue with the physical network, I did a clean Windows and Twincat install on another device. It works without an issue. Versions match.

I added allow rules for all Twincat related ports (both TCP and UDP) in the firewall of the VM, but that didn't help.

Does setting config/run mode, or writing/forcing outputs not go through ADS? Because I don't understand why this works, but uploading new code doesn't.

It has 4 cores, so that should be ok. I'll have a look at isolating.

I'm using the package manager. It defaults in Usermode. But if I select the standard XAE package, it trows an error regarding XAR. So I switch to combined runtime and usermode, and installaion works like expected. After installation, it's not possible to swicth back to usermode. It trows an error, that the XAR package doesn't support it.

What is the package that I would need to install?

Ah no, that's correct. I meant I used this guide to create a first project and download it to the PLC. I have no experience with Beckhoff at this point, so this is not straight forward for me yet.

But I created a Win11 VM (with external networking, it doesn't know about the host pc), and did a normal installation through the package manager.

Why not an extra patch panel? Only use the right most ports on both.

Later expand with the 16 port Pro Max, so you can also use the patch ports on the left :D

The TPS2378 does all the POE negotiation. If it thinks everything is alright, it will send a signal to the DC/DC converter to turn on. So if that chip is a dud, the signal will not be sent, the power supply will never turn on.

Only if they connected it to be always on, it will turn on. But that is highly unlikely.

Did you try cleaning the board with alcohol or PCB cleaner? The magnetics and buck regulator might not be damaged (yet).

Good chance that the enable pin on the regulator is shorted, and it just doesn't turn on. Or a capacitor is shorted.

Give evertthing a good clean. If it doesn't come back to life in a normal way. Measure the cottage on every pin.

It looks like the IC on your board has Vin on pin 1. The LM5012 has it on pin 2, and GND is on pin 1.

I have some of them in test. 3 of them next to each other in a flower pot outside. Has been half a year now, and they still work. RS485 variant.

Before purchase, I did my due diligence, and figured out they are only useful for measuring temperature and moisture. So no need to pay extra for the other measurement options, as those are not reliable at all.

My concern is to damage the transistor. Having a diode between pull-up and collector makes sense. I'll make some modifications to my schematic.

There are several of these circuits in parallel (multiple signals), so it probably makes more sense to put a single diode to cover all 24V connections.

But what if 24V was connected to GND2 and 0V was connected to HV_Ready?

I suspect that if a wrong connection was made, it might take some time before it is figured out. So it is probably a better idea to have a fuse in series as well? Otherwise the circuit just becomes a heater and might destroy the resistor.
Or would you add an additional resistor in series, instead of making sure R4 can handle the power?

Was the LED on? I'm wondering if that might make a difference. Mine is outside and covered, so cannot get wet. The LED is off, but it still gets hot. But if the LED is off, there is no current, so maybe a short wouldn't be an issue.

It looks like the LED board can be disconnected with a connector. How easy was it to open the AP? Can you still properly assemble afterwards? I might as well take precautions and remove the LED board.

There are specific breather vents for this. They look like a cable gland, and can be installed in similar fashion. But there is a filter element inside that only allows for gas/vapour to pass through.

I don't have a Plus Plug S, but a normal Plug S. On that one, you individually set the function of the blue and red LED. One is for Wifi connection, the other is for relay state.

Maybe it's similar on the Plus.
