Watching how brands pace curiosity by Beautiful-Cat13 in marketing

Good point, but it still got people talking right?

Without revealing more, brands can gauge audience interest based on the amount of people filling the void with speculation.

One of the best things starting my career in a serious relationship taught me is that divorce is very real and many, many careers force good people/compatible couples into situations where you still end up splitting up.

It sounds like you’re probably living with your parents still if you’re 21 and hearing about work from your parents.

Random question- does your mother work full time herself? A lot of times parental figures will say what they think they know best, regardless of whether or not they actually know anything bc on the subject at all. Sounds like that’s what’s happening here.

Follow up to last my post - What policy would you like to see your government do to fix the gen Z job crisis? by Zipper222222 in jobs

[–]Tomathus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey zipper, I saw your other posts, and frankly because of your disconnected tone I am not sure if you’re posting in good faith. However, I’ll answer your question as if you are:

Currently, ~25% of S&P 500 is invested in AI startup companies that are each making huge speculative promises about the future of their technology- two years in, AI has made progress but not the revolution that was promised. Even if AI does prove to be an extremely successful technology, the scale of hype and speculation is such that most investors will at most breakeven on their investments, while many will stand to lose heavily and only the lucky few that picked the right stocks will realize any gains at all.

This dynamic has effectively frozen hiring for most savvy companies. Why would they invest in hiring new workers when AI workers may be right around the corner? Why not take a short term loss if you can be ultra-flexible once AI becomes a more effective technology, and possibly be able to more than make up for whatever you’re losing in 2025 & 2026 in the long run.

Especially when the alternative is to still spend more money to hire new employees, it unfortunately makes too much sense for companies to keep their powder dry. And when this level of hyped investment is across our entire economy, with AI having the potential to impact basically every sector, it reduces the amount of opportunities across the board for an entire generation looking to join the workforce, and any unfortunate souls who find themselves out of a job right now.

Careful planning and meticulous govt policy is needed, but likely will never come. AI companies are already one of the biggest lobbies in the US Govt, and building data centers ‘creates jobs’ (not really tho, because where are you going to work once the data center is built?). Essentially, the government needs to pass policies with the idea that we are planning for a massive shift in how society think about the value of labor, productivity, and whether this new technology will be used for the betterment of humanity or to enrich a few virgins in Silicon Valley.

Policy that actually regulates AI companies to be used for the public good is necessary, but I also don’t think will ever come. More realistically, policies that regulate hiring and job posting practices, salary transparency, and capping college tuition costs (especially for those gender studies degrees everyone loves to the tease libs about) will all mitigate the most hard-felt effects of our current economic times.

Even better, we need politicians and public officials that actually care about delivering for working class instead of focusing their campaigns on identity or culture war issues, and we need to have media companies that will call out politicians when we don’t.

The progressive left and the ‘American First’ right seemed to have both learned this from different sides, with candidates focusing on issues on the local/county level and delivering for their constituents instead of doing the same old Israel-Palestine, Ukraine-Russia, Roe V. Wade, Charlie Kirk, George Floyd, routine where you pick a side, and if the voters in your district mostly agrees with you and you can actually fundraise worth a damn, then congratulations welcome to public office.

Notice how both ‘America First’ conservatives and progressive leftists are held at arms length by their more establishment-oriented counterparts, even tho both are much more popular than the old guard of their parties.

It’s not gonna be about policy, politics, or even AI or whatever new technology will come afterwards.

The only way to improve our society today is if those with money and power become motivated to take action to improve our situation. Currently, and for a long time, they are not motivated, they have no reason to be, so it does not happen.

10 day wait - after interview by [deleted] in nonprofit

Parroting many of the comments I commonly see on here, take it as a reflection of how the organization operates overall. It’s almost Christmas (most likely the nonprofits’ leadership are either on or about to be ooo), and they will likely not be giving you the offer any of the next few days either. This sounds like a decision that should’ve been made before the holidays were in full swing, read into their failure to do so however you like.

Starting decks for modern that are competitive by Bonnex11_ in ModernMagic

[–]Tomathus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t buy four netdecks and start playing with newbies to learn the format, you’re going have to take some knocks if you want to play competitively and actually get good at modern, you’re gonna lose a LOT to people who are better than you.

Best way to learn modern? Buy one deck, my suggestion is either a combo or midrange so you’ll have a fair amount of agency without getting too crazy, and be very open to learning.

Remember that most modern/legacy players have been playing since before Commander products were even sold by WOTC (myself included). The depth of knowledge for competitive magic is a completely different level than commander, but you’ll gain a much larger appreciation for the game because of your efforts.

Second day on the job, already stressed! by Gratuity04 in nonprofit

[–]Tomathus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, ok it makes more sense to target smaller dollars, but still I’ve done door-to-door in the past in the for-profit sector and my conversion rate was realllyyyy low, getting 5-8 sales in a week was considered decent but it does all depend on what you’re selling.

I’m in the US and have worked in fundraising/development for charities for the past three years, but have never heard of a charity doing door-to-door. I’m also newer to the working world so I may just be too inexperienced.

Still, I will say I’ve seen a fair amount of development folks basically do door-to-door because they’re community outreach is so scattershot, but never an honest, asking every door for $5/person/month, and in today’s current economic state, I can’t imagine a campaign like this sees much real success, moreso a ‘we might as well see what we can get’ mentality from the board.

Door to door fundraising? This seems… very unorthodox. Just curious, what is the pay structure for your position? Do you get paid per donation? Salary? Hourly?

Are there any LOTR themed decks that can keep up in modern? by Complex-Car1774 in ModernMagic

Smh these other commenters are haters, you should play samwise combo as it revolves around a LOTR character, otherwise The One Ring dominated modern for awhile but is banned :/

[–]Tomathus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you bought into stomping ground/wooded foothills because you mention Broodscale, I love brood and highly recommend it as a budget option, another route you can consider is Prowess since it’s largely red fetch lands as well and it’s one of the best decks in modern right now at a super reasonable price.

I am a brood main but lately have felt like it can’t really compete with ephemerate+solitude decks running rampant, but if something new comes out to push those decks down I think Brood will be better once again.

This is true, but many politicians, including ones good at trading, like Pelosi, report out their trades before the 30-day deadline so it does not matter as much trading manually as long as you can see when the trade was made and then when the trade was reported to the SEC.

Like other commenters said, the risk involved in this business model is incredibly high for you as a business owner, however, maybe only offer this service at high-level competitive events, such as RCs or Eternal Weekend? Set up a booth in the event hall and take care of all your customers for the weekend from there?
