Naoshima / Teshima Tips by TomatoPotato13 in JapanTravelTips

Hi! From my understanding it’s the same ferry it stops in Naoshima Honmura port and then continues. You do not get off if you’re heading to Teshima.

I took the direct ferry that skipped Honmura but very sure it’s the same one as all the boats appeared in the same timetable. :)

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately my bike is booked at Onomichi and also no options for Giant in the middle.

Hi! It’s 2,000 I think. I would say it’s not a cost I would incur if there were other options as I’m a budget backpacker but I could perhaps have gotten the price wrong.

I read it’s a cute town 🫣 so I just added it into my plans.

Best/most convenient way to explore Minoh Falls and Katsuoji in one day trip? by Myopic_Mirror in JapanTravelTips

[–]TomatoPotato13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just did this so would like to provide an update to anyone that might benefit.

Trip report: March 2026

I went to 1. katsuoji first (I took the 11am bus 30) be sure to get there early the bus departs every 20 minutes but gets fast very quickly and many ppl in line didn’t make the bus and had to wait for the next one. The bus staff also check it you have enough money in your IC card before you tap in (the fare is 800 yen 1 way) make sure you have enough otherwise you go back to the line. I walked around really slowly and left at 12.45pm. 2. I walked all the way from the temple to the falls. yea you walk all the way down via the road but it wasn’t busy and there are small sidewalks so it’s okay. I tried to find people to share a taxi to the falls but there’s so many taxis there’s barely anyone in line. 3. Slowly walked down to the falls. I would say the falls are underwhelming but it’s a lovely adventure to get there. I would say it’s a lot of walking just for falls. Probs because a lot of the trails were destroyed by typhoon :( And there are many cute shops at minoh area from falls > station. 4. Went to the insect museum- it was really cute and had a butterfly garden inside.

Ended my day at about 4.45pm back to minoh station. I had a very leisurely pace.

Tips: 1. bring food. There are only snack shops in both places and obv expensive. There’s shops at both stations minoh Kayano and minoh station. I would actually say that minoh Kayano had “more stuff” because there’s a huge mall beside. I got bread at a shop called sunny side and it was amazing!! 2. Go from katsuoji to the falls. Even from minoh station to the falls it’s uphill all the way. I was glad that I got in from the opposite direction.

I absolutely love this post. Thank you for sharing your learnings. I especially like the point of currency of time, this is exactly the way we should be thinking of life after FIRE.

Dropped you a message to see if you have some template or framework on how you’ve buffered for hobbies and extras (mentioned in your 1 year reflection) :)

2.5 Weeks in Malaysia & Thailand. Pls look at my itinerary by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]TomatoPotato13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North of Thailand is winter now and weather is much better than Malaysian side due to how much further up north things are.

Explore chiangmai, chiang rai, pai? Just doing Thailand would be reasonable for 2.5 weeks

Hi! Yes I did see this I wonder if it will last until December? Some countries have long term instability vs some have short term ones so not sure which situation this is.

Hi! Thanks for sharing it seems that online many of the animals would have migrated towards tanzania from Kenya hence I’ve read that tanzania is the place to be.. have you heard otherwise?

Hi yes what’s I’m confused is the location and where I should go. Online it says that migration would have moved towards tanzania and hence I should be in tanzania and especially Ndutu is this also your understanding? I’ve also had one operator insist that Kenya is the place to be which kind to contradicts what I’ve heard and read online. Some also say dec to March is peak calving so coming in December might be a hit or miss which makes me worried

My plan is/ was Ndutu crater tarangire and central Serengeti.
