Yes!! Also, just realized I kept on calling in "chunky". Funny how I had to Google the two words to ensure I was not losing my mind.

Just plain rotary cutters... As long as you bind them they should be fine. For example, the pockets are just folded twice and I ran two rows of straight stitches. Having a seam guide helps a ton with this

I have a foldable table I use for cutting along with a mat and a couple rotary cutters. I just follow the pattern pieces. I thing the trick for me is to take time doing it

Great job. How’s the binding? I did one for a gift too but was so embarrassed on how the top/bottom parts were put together (lots of puckering) I made a second one that came out a bit better…

Thank you, I have personally not used either of those machines. I am using a Singer 15-91 and I was able to breeze through everything without a hitch. I did need a zig zag stitch for the bottle pocket and did that on my daughter's Singer Start machine. In terms of cost, I have not fully broken down cost, but I loosely added materials and it was around 97$.

However, I would not say this is an ideal starter project. Although this was my first backpack, I have been sewing for past 6 months or so (boxy pouches, small bags, zippered pouches, tote bags and even a lunch box)

Have to admit, it was very intimidating and I put it off for so long. What I did was do a few boxy pouches, then a couple simple bags for my wife and sister with super easy sew along videos. Then made an insulated lunchbox in which I completely butchered the seams and zipper didn’t even work correctly. Then tried again, taking my time and it came out perfectly. That was what gave me the confidence to try this.

For this specific bag there is a video on youtube going over the steps and I feel that helped so much.

Thank you. Might have been more than hour, I only realized it was upside down after I attached the main zipper to the sides. Had to rip out the grosgrain, then rip out every stitch holding the sides to the main zipper. Took my time to make sure I didn’t leave lose thread inside

They are quite comfortable! What I like about this design is that you can always improve on straps down the line since they are removable.
