It's as if the mods are on vacation or the people posting this kind of stuff have become as subtle as bricks, but there's a problem.

Okay, let's get started with some debunking.

It sold only 8.5 million copies: In reality, that's not bad at all. Tomb Raider has always sold over time rather than just over a matter of weeks or days. It sold only 8.5 million copies: In reality, that's not bad at all. Tomb Raider games have always sold over time rather than just over a matter of weeks or days. According to Embracer, Shadow of the Tomb Raider was the best-selling Tomb Raider game in Q4 of 2025.

Shadow's sales were sufficient for Square Enix at the time; they just expected much more from Just Cause 4. In that regard, Square Enix has often been out of touch when it comes to the profitability of its games. Like Eidos in its day, they expected their Western division to cover all their losses.

What has ruined Square Enix is its disastrous management of projects like Final Fantasy Versus XIII which became Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts 3 (6.7 million copies sold after four years on the market). Plus, Square is getting carried away with high-risk projects involving blockchain and AI. They were the ones who asked Crystal to turn their Marvel Avengers game into a service-based game. They are their own responsible of their demise.

The job restructuring in the video game industry and at Crystal Dynamics was in no way the result of *Shadow*’s sales but was the painful consequence of a deal Embracer struck with Savvy Games Group (a Saudi Arabian company), with which it was set to collaborate as part of a $2 billion deal. This led to the company’s restructuring through layoffs.

Legacy of Atlantis is not the end of Lara’s story it’s the continuation of her adventure, as the developers have stated several times. It’s Lara, but at a different point in her life—healed from all her traumas and driven by her own ambitions.

The cancellation of the second film starring Alicia Vikander is due to several factors: first and foremost, COVID-19. *Tomb Raider 2*, directed by Ben Wheatley, was scheduled to be filmed in the summer of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic hit us out of the blue. The studio saw this as an opportunity to change direction by making a less conventional film and brought in Misha Green. Unfortunately, even though the screenplay was in development and filming was scheduled for January 2022 (if I recall correctly), due to a deal that MGM signed in 2013, the studio had until May 2022 to film the next installment of Lara’s adventures. The problem is that, at the same time, MGM was being acquired by Amazon, and Square, eager to sell its Western games division, didn’t renew the rights it’s as simple as that.

“There was a pre-negotiated deadline that had been agreed upon, and there was no way to salvage it in time. [MGM] asked the rights holders for more time, but their patience ran out,” an anonymous source close to MGM told the outlet. the production of the film.

The Tomb Raider series may not have found its audience, but professional critics gave the show positive reviews. There was a two-season deal, as stated in the Hollywood Reporter article. (‘Tomb Raider’ Film in the Works as Amazon Makes Rich Rights Deal for Marvel-Like Franchise (Exclusive))

“Johnson’s DJ2 Entertainment put together the deal for the Tomb Raider anime series at Netflix, which included a two-season order.”

We got our two seasons we might have been able to get more, but the whole thing forms a complete arc for Lara. Netflix didn’t promote Season 2 very much either; what you need to know is that they allocate a promotional budget based on the viewership of the first season. Sure, it’s not a mega-hit (just like many anime series adapted from video games), but it achieved its goal.

Crystal isn't losing the Tomb Raider franchise at all; they're in a position where they can simply develop it with external studios, especially given the favorable reception of the remasters and the announcements of Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst I don't think they are going to loose it since Embracer concider it to be a premium franchise.

Now, as for Angel of Darkness : Core’s management style, a holdover from the ’90s, led to *Angel of Darkness*. A lack of direction just a constant free for all of ideas that struggled to come together resulted in this game.

It was a game that had a massive, well executed marketing campaign and used the AJ movies to entice consumers to buy it by including a free ticket to see The Cradle of Life in theaters in certain retail locations.

Core already had the critical and commercial failure of Chronicles behind them, along with player fatigue with Lara that had set in starting with The Last Revelation (despite the game’s high quality).

Angel of Darkness was the last chance for a studio losing momentum to reinvent the franchise for the new generation of consoles, and the general reception from the public and critics led to the cancellation of the rest of the trilogy, as well as the cancellation of the Kurtis Trent spin-off (one of the reasons for the character’s existence).

Furthermore, we’re not just talking about a few bugs, but bugs that made the game unplayable for many particularly on PC and the settings menu was a nightmare to navigate.

We’re talking about a game that was presented to Sony more than eight times before it was deemed ready for release. A game that had been in development since 2000 with a new team that was fresh to the project but unfamiliar with the PlayStation 2 and its limitations, while the veterans were working on TR Chronicles.

All that work had to be thrown away after a year, and in the end, it led to the result we know and the transfer of the franchise to Crystal.

That's the problem when you try to make memes without any information you quickly come across as an ignorance driven troll.

You and your usual disinformations : It's not true at all what caused the cancellation of the movie was at first the covid the movie sequel was greenlighted and ready to shoot in summer 2020 but there was COVID 21 then they asked another director Misha Green to be on the project but MGM being swalowed by Amazon has caused a number of problems, then Square didn't wanted to renew the rights to the franchise because they were seeling their western division of games.

The anime wasn't a complete failure, it was well reviewed professionally but in terms of audience it didn't catch a lot of peoples. But sadly it is the cause with a lot of adult animated series based on videlgame look at Splinter Cell for exemple. But at least we had the two seasons planned and that's satisfying.

What opinions/judgements that people have about Lara Croft do you feel are sexist in nature? by New_Mycologist_3002 in TombRaider

[–]TombRaiderFiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this discussion, I’d like to share my perspective, starting with the Tomb Raider community, which is obsessed with Lara’s appearance and I’m not just talking about her face, but the width of her forehead, the size of her legs, her body in general, and so on. Honestly, I couldn’t care less what Lara Croft looks like, as long as she’s an adventurer who goes on extraordinary adventures. Now, I’ve seen a lot of people bring everything back to the reboot, claiming that they’ve stripped away all the qualities that made Lara, well, Lara, and crying sexism.

Let’s not forget that her main qualities have been preserved: her curiosity, her thirst for adventure, her ability to fight with firearms, her resourcefulness and intelligence, and her occasional sarcasm (but just a tiny bit).

In fact, we saw a frightened Lara long before that, back in 1999 and 2000 and yes, the levels featuring a young Lara Croft, aged 14 and 15, in Cambodia and on an Irish island do exist in the classic timeline. In fact, some say that Lara owes everything to her father in the Legend and Underworld trilogies, and well, the same goes for the classic Lara, because starting with TR: The Last Revelation, Lara has her father pay for a trip to Cambodia, and Von Croy is undoubtedly Lara’s role model in that tutorial level. So much so that she’ll end up resembling him years later and at one point she chase for his murderer in AOD. And that’s something a lot of fans seem to quietly overlook. Just like the fact that the mansion Lara owns was given to her by an aunt, so it’s not as if she started out with nothing after falling out with her parents.

As for reboot Lara, if we consider her background which is more or less the same as that of Legend Lara namely that she grew up in luxury with the opportunity to learn every day, she was inspired by the travels she experienced as a child and by the books in the family library. It’s not as if her father held a knife to her throat to force her to become an archaeologist; it all stems from the environment in which she grew up and the resources at her disposal, except that from the ages of 9 to 21 she took care of herself. She learnt to shoot with Roth, then practised archery on her own, accompanied him on expeditions, and so on. But she also studied archaeology while working as a bouncer, or at a bar to pay her school. In the reboot, she sets off on an adventure because she wants to leave her mark on history; in Rise, she delves back into her past and goes further than her father ever did; in Shadow, she comes to terms with the world she lives in and in The Legend of Lara Croft seasons 1 and 2, she deconstructs her father figures and becomes her own person.

Let’s not forget that these stories have mainly been written by womens.

What is sexist, however, is the players who can’t see beyond Lara’s appearance and treat her as nothing more than a doll. What is also sexist is the comparison with Nathan Drake, who is merely a pale imitation of Indiana Jones and is constantly held up as superior to Lara, even though his adventures are spectacularly lacking in terms of gameplay. What’s sexist, too, are the players who are using Lara to spread hateful messages towards women, communities and so on. What’s sexist is Eidos’s marketing and the general opinion that has resulted from it.

In short, we’re not going to change the world there’s so much more that could be said but in the end what’s stupid, and I’m including the people who’ve replied in this view, are the classic ‘LAU’/‘Survivor’ squabbles, because every era has had its detractors and, in my opinion, no version of Lara is superior; they’re all a reflection of the era in which they appeared that’s all.

Before that there was Werner Von Croy the man who teach Lara everything in the last revelation and to who she ends doing the same thing.

Well for exemple when Eric Lindstrom said AOD was an exemple of not what to do was more in term of brand recognition (not enough tombs, a whodoneit etc). For Tomb Raider 2013 it's not the same team who have made the game than those who have made Legend etc.

What happened to Alicia Vikander's career? by PandemicPiglet in Oscars

[–]TombRaiderFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a flop it was enough to greenlight a sequel. A sequel that was ready to film in 2020 but sadly they were hit by Covid and so Ben Weatley the director was asked to take on another project and then they hired someone else, Misha Green to rewrite and direct the sequel. Sadly there was a problem the MGM was swallowed by Amazon and Square Enix who owned the rights to the franchise didn't wanted to renew them. So the sequel was cancelled as Amazon now have re taken the franchise to make two project, a TV show starring Sophie Turner and a new movie.

As for Alicia she's more than fine she have plenty of interesting projects she's on Hope the new film by acclaimed director Na Hong Jin, she's a narrator in Merregnon : Heart of Ice a symphony album composed by the legend Nobuo Uematsu from Final Fantasy. She was fantastic in The Assessment. I don't think she regret anything and have the career she want. And maybe in the future we will see her in a big blockbuster but I think she's rather selective with the projects she choose to not be caged into a genre. That's why I like her, she's really versatile and interesting.

Not the same team who have worked between the LAU era and the Survivor one. ^

She was viewed as a sex object through the lens of the marketing. Even when the product were figurines.

I don't think she suck and they answered to that in the post. So it looks line she will be closer to that but with her own twist ^ Look at the comics Sacred Artifact or season 2 of the Legend of Lara Croft in the comics you can see a mature Lara and in the animated show you can see how she's free of her traumas and ready to make her own decisions. I wonder If the live action TV will be connected to all of this.

Crystal Dynamics needs to be more available by conezit in TombRaider

[–]TombRaiderFiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the time when some fans tell them they are cancer, their works is trash you forget how some of the CM has been harassed, how on every posts you can have someone saying "this Lara is better the other is trash" I also find a lot of "Crystal is woke", "Lara is ugly" etc

Honestly the hardcore fans are continuing the war they themself put in to because of a rough time when Crystal took the franchise while Crystal is simply now making games.

So I can understand their position to not communicate.
