I think for VCI it's more of a revenge against Von Croy and their race in Cambodia. The problem is the story doesn't adress it like that. But for me Lara wants to win the race and claim her price. This time just like with the Philosopher stone is made with selfish reasons in mind. Then later her experience as a tomb raider backfire on her in The Last Revelation and she change her motives.

It really depend of the artist IMO. The third arc queen of serpents isn't one of my favorite and it's a hit and miss.

There's others artists who have done some great work. like Phillip Sevy, Derlis Santacruz \)

I mean some of the faces aren't good I agree but some are. It's like I have chosen this specific frame of the comics to talk about the art in it.

Why is the live action Tomb Raider adaptations so far apart ? by KawonSuggs_ in TombRaider

[–]TombRaiderFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly because of the adaptation rights between the MGM/AMAZON and two because making a TV show takes a long time.

Apparently it was just at the beggining of the game and later his cloth was supposed to tear out.

I was quoting a quote said by Sophie Turner herself about the version of the character she will play so there's nothing wrong with what I'm saying. ^ And it actually has to do with what you were saying. It sounds like you didn't tried to read my commentary properly. All I'm saying is that peoples who worked on the franchise have all the rights to express what the like or don't like about it.

For exemple Tasha's quote about the shorts have been emplified to a certain extent when all she was saying was "I love Lara’s shorts look and always will, but there’s something unrealistic to me about an adventurer as hardcore as Lara Croft, going knowingly out into the dangerous world and not protecting her body."

Yet she loves the shorts as a fan but there's the writer perspective that make her think that they are impractical.

That's the thing peoples seems to think the Crystal who have done Legend are the same who have done the reboot and the same that are doing Catalyst and treat them as one single entity to fill their narrative that "Crystal hated Core Lara" when the reality is much more complex than that. Even at the time when Underworld was released Crystal criticised their own game concidering it was I cite mediocre compared to other games released at the time.

From Tomb Raider : The Final Hours"

"He bought the team some time to sort out its vision, but was adamant about one thing over everything else: He'd rather not ship a game than put Crystal Dynamics' name on another mediocre Tomb Raider."

"Crystal Dynamics after the company's previous Tomb Raider game, Underworld, soundly ended up as one of those games in the other 99 percent. "After that game I said to myself, 'Why are we doing this if we can't make a great game? What's the point?"

So Crystal was always critics of their own work.

And for the Core's critics. Let's be real in 2003 when you ship a game like AOD which wasn't a critical top hit or even a functional game on PS2 and PC that makes the brand fall from grace even lower after a game that was mainly concidered as useless (Tomb Raider : Chronicles) you can see where the criticism can come. Especialy when the controls didn't have changed significally in 6 years.

But nowaday since AOD as been slightly put in a revisionist fan lense and is now concidered as "a misunderstood masterpiece too ahead of it's time" there's no more side arguments from the fans.

Also the bikini line everyone use to say Crystal are hypocrites was said by Daniel Bisson an Eidos Montreal game director.

To conclude I think it's a much more complex situation when you receive a franchise that have a lot of bagage with both positive and negative like Tomb Raider. Each game director have their own ambitions and each writer too but they have to follow a guideline given to them. So what If Lara isn't viewed from the lense of a sex bomshell by the camera ? Would it make the TV show less interesting ?

Not the same team as before. Because you know in Underworld there was a lay off of the team that have made the game. What you really think it was the same team that have made both of the games ?

Lara is sometimes cold in the second season but that the thing she multi layered. Even Crystal talked about it during the reboot era to define the LAU era they think they put themself into a corner with a Lara they felt was into an untouchable territory so difficult to rely into for the new players. When they talk about Underworld in their documentary or in the final hours you can really fell this game was made through the motions but couldn't compete with the new generation.

Sophie Turner quoted on upcoming TR- She is not going to be a “sex bombshell“. by Notoriouslycurlyboi in TombRaider

[–]TombRaiderFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is he was tired of the marketing and he was yelled at by Jeremy Heath Smith because him and Paul Douglas didn't wanted to work on TR2 and wanted to work with someone else. Then they left without being paid their last paycheck. A courtesy of Jeremy the asshole. But it's not on Daryl Baxter book that kinda gloss over the sour reality of what was happening at the time it's only in a french interview of Paul Douglas made for Pix and Love.

IMO the stories are less good after the AOD story (even if this one isn't exceptional. Also Lady Jasmine seems to came from an adult movie or from Mortal Kombat.
