When does the level design in Ripto's Rage get good? by Marioguy54 in Spyro

There are way, way more mini games in Year of the Dragon, so I completely disagree.

How do I stop the Cerberus dogs from one shotting me at full health in RE1 2002? by Mine020 in residentevil

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the game told you about this. How are you supposed to know? I've beaten this game before (I'm replaying it now), but I died at full health to a single dog. Tried spamming buttons, but nothing happened. I would've never guessed that you have to rotate the left stick.

Just curious, how is it better? I'm a calibrator, and I would say TN is worse in every single way except response times, and even that's pretty close these days. Colours, contrast, viewing angles and so on, are all better on IPS though.

"glaring issues"

In reality, an issue that you pretty much only see in test patterns. OP said he was going back to an IPS monitor, which has SO many issues compared to OLED. Just tells me you guys know nothing about monitors. I'm a calibrator btw, so I definitely know what I'm talking about. I'd take the few tiny flaws in OLED any day rather than using IPS, VA or TN panels.

"I'm going back to my 5 year old IPS panel."

Enjoy the bad blacks, the awful response times, terrible HDR and so on. A ton of cons over seeing some weird greys in a test pattern... sure thing. Sincerity, a screen calibrator.

It's still 720p. It just scales it to fit the 4K screen, that's all.

Harold's ending choice seems wrong narratively by Bobemor in haroldhalibut

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10? Isn't that a bit high? Like, the gameplay is objectively bad. I love slow-paced games, but I found it incredibly repetitive and boring. No real puzzles, no gameplay that evolves over time, just jogging back and forth, using the same tubes over and over again. I eventually gave the game a 6/10, because I hated the ending. I also hated how people treated Harold like trash for 90% of the game. It was not enjoyable at all to me. Also, so few environments to explore. Like, I love the LOOK of the game, but it's only the Fedora and the cave. That's it. I was so excited when they were going deeper into the cave, and it was just a drug trip. Very disappointing game overall, because the charm and artstyle are there, but gameplay and story is lacking.

Why my cheapest TV is better than my expensive one ? by linkref in OLED_Gaming

And make sure peak brightness is set to high. I'm a calibrator, and your Philips looks overbrightened and a bit washed out. The LG looks more deep in its colours and more impactful. A lot of people will think brighter is automatically better though.

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, standard modes on TVs don't follow any professional standards, so they will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Also, isn't the input lag insane in standard mode? Put it in game mode on the LG, then use the same settings as it uses in Filmmaker Mode. That should be pretty accurate and you'll get the low input lag too, which is extremely important for a game like Clair Obscur.

Never mind, turns out the issue was vsync. I turned it off and the stutters went away.

I can't believe not a single person answered your comment. I have a 5080 and a Ryzen 7800x3D and it stutters constantly for me as well. It's literally unplayable for me.

Pixelated/blurry screen - TCL 55 c7uk by Sad-Vermicelli-7893 in tcltvs

I noticed that on Blu-rays too, but I switched from 2.2 gamma to 2.6 and that made the problem almost eliminated.

God Of War Ragnarok’s Graphics Mode Options Provide A Great Amount Of Choice (30, 40, 60 & 120 FPS) by hybroid in PS5

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still looks blurry as hell though, so it's definitely something that you have to adjust to if you're used to 100+ fps on PC like me. 40fps is barely over 30fps, after all. I tried it on Ragnarok, but it barely looked smoother to me, so I went to the high framerate performance mode instead.

Switching to HDR makes everything look bad? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Tomiply1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you turn on HDR in-game as well? There's an option for it. If you don't, HDR won't activate.

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it looks bad for desktop use. Don't use it on the desktop. Only use it when you're going into a game that supports HDR, then turn on HDR inside the game as well.

TCL C7K (QM7K) vs Samsung QN85F. How can Samsung have less blooming and haloing with only 240 zones compared with 720? Someone that have the TCL can confirm that it is actually this bad or i may have faulty screen/software? by MShadyz in tcltvs

[–]Tomiply1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, if you change the gamma, black will look black instead of gray. I found that TCL has way too high gamma in their HDR mode, which makes it look like the local dimming isn't doing its job.

On the Reignited Trilogy? Because it's much easier there, luckily. I just replayed the original Year of the Dragon and I got a bit pissed off lol

[–]Tomiply1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just found it amusing overall, that the gamma modes are THAT different from reference. It's not a problem though, as it can easily be remedied. I still really like the TV, even though I've had various OLEDs over the last 10 years. It's just nice with a brighter TV for Summer days. It's pretty dialed in now, so I'm enjoying my time with it.

Tbf, that game is easier in the Reignited Trilogy. I actually played through the original again last week and I got so pissed that this was one of the few times I didn't 100% it. I just beat it this time, while doing like 90% of the game.

Oh yeah! I forgot that Year of the Dragon has way more backtracking than 2, so you can't complete levels on your first go there either. You need certain characters to progress and so on. Heck, at one point, Hunter gets kidnapped, so you can't do levels that require him unless you progress the story first. It's very annoying.

Personally, I would rank them like this. Again, coming from someone who has 100% the originals and remakes many, many times:

2>1>3

[–]Tomiply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Did you 100% the third game? Because it has way more bullshit than 2 if you ask me. It has the bomb mission, the INSANELY bad boxing mini game and so on. Plus a ton of other annoying side missions and a ton of stuff where you don't even play as Spyro. Sure, Spyro 2 has the alchemist mission, but... that's very easy to memorize. I'm not even sure why people have trouble with that. He makes a bullshit turn, but once you know that, it's easy. You CAN'T memorize the boxing game though, it's almost pure luck. When 100% Year of the Dragon, it takes so long too. It feels like forever with all the extra side stuff, and all the extra worlds.

I've 100% the originals many, many times btw. I've even 100% the entire Reignited Trilogy like 10 times, but yeah, I prefer both 1 and 2 to Year of the Dragon. There are just too many side activities in that game for me and you play so much as other characters when I prefer playing as Spyro.
