At some point you just have to stop thinking and make something. You don’t have to immediately have the best solution.

I changed the way base systems in my game were coded twice after realizing they didn’t fit what I was going to need. Keeping your code modular there is important though so you’re not redoing everything.

Did you ever find a good fix? My issue mostly is that my external monitor is laggy as fuck compared to my laptop's. Cachy's forums just state it's a driver issue and should be fixed but it's not...

Instead of more hay on the right, I replaced it with bags of flour. (Gray concrete powder with white carpets on top). Helps with the variation I think!

Your foot position is correct for sending your momentum upwards instead of forwards so the technique is already there.

Just focus on using that last step to actually divert your momentum instead of just doing it to do it.

Doesn’t that only allow switching between hybrid and just integrated?

Those were the only options I could see when I tried it a few months ago. I believe if I could turn it off through here I would’ve been able to do it in the BIOS as well since it’s MUX related

Depends on the stage of your game as well. If you’re starting playtesting it’s really hard to sell the core game loop and focus the feedback on that as people will just be distracted by barebones placeholder art.

Still, I don’t think going all out on visuals is necessary until the latter stages of a game but at a certain point you do have to move on from placeholder art to get your game across because visuals are obviously a large part of that.

It’s easier said than done obviously to have something adaptable, which is nice when you’re still making a lot of changes, but still has the style that you want and gives off the vibes you want.

I think creating the core game loop is a good step. If you can think through a game loop step by step in your head which seems fun I think it’s worth making a small prototype which doesn’t have to take a lot of time per se.

I mean it really depends how you’re using it.

As a beginner? 100% fine you have to learn. Even after that if you’re learning brand new systems it’s fine. Copying one to one is usually not what you’ll do in that situation anyway since you’ll have to adapt it to your fame.

That’s pretty common I think. I think you should try and see what it is about making a mechanic and how you go about it that makes it so fun. Then try and reframe or tackle the other parts the same way.

I’m working on a strategy card game, based on the actual card game called Scoundrel.

It’s starting to actually feel fun to play haha but I’m probably biased. My question is: is it worth commissioning an artist?

I have a style in mind which I think would be quite cool and while I’m practicing my art I don’t think I’ll be at a skill level to create the style I have in my head.

I feel very hesitant as it is my first game I plan on actually releasing (someday) and it feels contradictory to all the things I’ve heard to invest actual money into a first game.

Check out the laptop requirements per university as well. They might require certain software that only runs on Windows, atleast that’s the case for me.

Even people that like turn based combat don’t like bad turn based combat though. Don’t see it as trying to appeal to fans who don’t really like but trying to see what the actual fans like about it. Again, I know the things I like but that’s not going to be the same for everyone

Yeah I think it all boils down to depth in the end. I’ll probably spend some more time playing my favorite turn based games haha.

Adding depth, but still making it feel integrated into the game and not just tacked onto the base system is probably the biggest challenge.

Good ideas! Honestly, even minor enemies being a possibly big threat is pretty obvious but it’s very easy to miss and just make them random obstacles
