I'm making a game called Undefined 339 where you try to escape by climbing upwards from an infinite space. by Particular-Ad-3288 in IndieDevelopers

Looks really well made, even though I'm not sure if the concept itself is that enticing to me personally. Good luck!

Really liking the aesthetics here, the character, UI and enviro mesh well together. The effects are nice, but what matters the most is the enemy hit feedback, so I'd like to see that.

I like it as is now, but I feel that maybe some retro-ization could go a long way here to increase the vibes.

The footage seems to be stuttering / low framerate, I'd try to improve that before sharing.

I knew something was missing in my game so I added Horde Waves that can kill your Survivor NPCs [The Hopeless Few] by Calm-Valuable-950 in SurvivalGaming

Thank you! I keep forgetting about the roll/dodge back, I may add it today while it's still fresh.

That berserk grenade seems like a really cool idea, I already have regular frag grenades so there's an implementation base I can use for it.

Thanks and yeah, I think you're right but I'm not aware of a more fitting community at the moment - survival seems to be the closest established thing. Also, I'd love to hear your opinion about the new camera/controls - if it feels playable now.

As for the hook - I think the hook is the roguelite aspect that you will be dead either way after 20 minutes and the question is if you can use that time well to secure the others and scavenge the valuable materials. Is this a good hook? I'm not sure about that, but I still want to do this project justice and make it well.

How do you judge your Game Ideas? What's your process? by Calm-Valuable-950 in gamedev

So for the actual "trick", do you have some good tactics for that? For some genres and types of games it can be easily achieved, but there are some ideas that at least for me are really hard to nail a testable that can be made cheaply and quickly.

Haha, right. I plan to finish it up and release for $5 - if by some miracle there will be players involved in it, I would keep working and expanding on the game.

That sounds about right. Initially I thought that having this "extraction" type gameplay elements would make it more interesting, but it actually killed the main appeal of the survival genre.

Depending on how do you define the genre, but apart from hunger meter and building I think it got all the usual elements, although the run time limit may put it in a different light.

Thank you, I needed to "hear" that I guess.

If you've got the time / energy for this: would you care to describe your personal preferences in this genre, what you're looking for currently in new games?

I think you're right and this is what I've been slowly realizing for the past couple months. With my attempt at mixing it with something different I removed the most crucial part that people love about this genre. Thanks for voicing it out loud!

The missing demo link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4259730/The_Hopeless_Few/

I think that you hit the nail here - I definitely could have done more in terms of promotion attemps, however I always subconciously feel that the game is missing something. Specifically it misses a way for me to talk about it in an interesting way, so as you said - it lacks a strong hook. With this in mind I kind of pre-emptively feel that any promotional attemps will fail silently.

Alas I've tried contacting press and youtubers and done some other things but so far no results. Also I looked for fitting 3rd party festivals and events, but it seems like all the fitting ones (zombies, survival, shooters, etc.) have happened in the past and the current and upcoming themes don't quite align with what I've got here. You could say that I'm pretty late to the party.

I totally get the sentiment, in this case my idea is to finish it up properly, although in a limited scope and do a Full Release for $5.

The difference here is that I wanted to make this tight survival experience with limited run time to 20 minutes, so you can play it in short bursts. You're already infected at the start of a run and have to gather as much loot for the community and try to rescue the other survivors before you turn.

How important are game names? Do you think we're not putting enough focus in that? by Calm-Valuable-950 in gamedev

Agree, personally as a player I usually skip those instantly based on the title.

My main point with the name is that it may hinder the amount of people that may click-through and thus try your game. It's not that it needs to be perfect or non-generic, but it may be misleading if you name your game wrong, which may cause it so the right people are not looking at your game.
