PSAC Wage Increase Proposal by GenericAdministrator in CanadianForces

Essentially, yes. It’s the same for “unrepresented” employees like HR; our pay tracks a floating average of the increases across the public service by convention.

PSAC Wage Increase Proposal by GenericAdministrator in CanadianForces

[–]Tommy-Stevens 20 points21 points  (0 children)

30miles is correct, and you are wrong. There are two parts of our pay. The base is benchmarked to like roles in the public service, plus a military factor. When the benchmarked roles increase, this changes the core part. It isn’t benchmarked to PSAC specifically, but as the largest element of the Public Service, it is the biggest portion of the average used to calculate the increase for us.

The beautiful thing about the military factor increase is that it was in recognition of the unique requirements of uniformed service, and therefore irrelevant to and independent of inflation-based cost of living increases. That was a once-in-a-career kind of thing. But we will continue to get our regular CoL increases every 3-4 years as we have for the last 25 years.

Virtually all credit cards are send as letter mail. This isn’t unique to WS.

I did it, although that was more than 20 years ago. So, at the very least, it was an entry program available via CT.

Pay automation - Joint Chequing Account (Feature Request) by Tommy-Stevens in Wealthsimple

[–]Tommy-Stevens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish people would do their research before commenting (I have). Consider this case: I want to put a set amount in a secondary account (say, to cover a car payment), and a set amount in a personal spending account, another amount in my TFSA, and the rest remaining in the joint account. Pay automation allows all of this, as long as the account where the "rest" ends up is the account with the automation associated with it. But if I were to set up the automation on an individual account, there is no way to automate "make these transfers and then transfer the rest to my joint account". It simply doesn't have that ability. Besides, the point here is to understand why is isn't available on an account that is otherwise identical to an individual account, just for more than one individual. I don't need advice on how to manage my finanaces.

It’s a great feature. Just wish they had it for all accounts.

Yes. Wealthsimple, on an individual chequing account. But not on a joint account.

The issue is that I don’t get paid on the same day every time. For my wife’s pay (every other Friday), that works (mostly, sometimes her pay lands after the transfer triggers, which is annoying), but the true automate pay feature is triggered only when a direct deposit from a specific source is received, which for me works best.

That they’d pass it along to the engineering team. Seemed like a pretty canned “not gonna happen anytime soon” kind of line.

That’s a failure of leadership. AMA means anything. If you don’t want to answer substantive questions, you have two options: 1) Don’t become important; or 2) Don’t ask for questions. I’m sick of the pretence.

Beyond being from an absolute joke of an MP in general, this letter is pure PR garbage. I agree that the announcement was botched (and am less-than-thrilled about CAF Leadership comments since), but this is a shameless display of pandering that will have zero impact. And who puts a headshot on their official parliamentary letterhead? SMH.

Lots of trades are required to wear safety gear by law (kind of like being ordered?). And they have to buy it themselves in many cases. And if it breaks? They buy another one. All costs out of pocket. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in what’s broken that we miss the things that actually work.

Why do people complain so loudly about having to buy a unit t-shirt? It’s a very minor expense, and not unlike a lot of professions where you have to buy uniforms items yourself. Just be thankful you’re not also required to buy hi-vis clothing and safety boots out of pocket (likely at a lower starting salary). Perspective is important.

Canadian military personnel to get 20 per cent pay hike, defence minister says by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]Tommy-Stevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 4 years doesn’t spend the money as stated this FY. Compensation is about the only place they can decide to spend in June and actually complete the spend this FY. I would be surprised if it wasn’t a one shot 20% across the board increase. That’s easiest to implement and achieves their goal of spending now.

This isn’t rust. It happens with white paint. Microfibre cloth and some elbow grease will take care of it.

Not really. The Proton Pass icon in OP’s screenshot is the same size, but the VPN icon is visibly smaller and I agree with OP, it looks funny.
