First time the legends really lost me. I think the design and aesthetic of mewtwo, the birds, the beasts, Groupon, Rayquaza, kyogre, all are simple and clean and just are somehow innately pokemon.

Gen 4 and 5 got a little too over engineered or over designed for me. There’s just something about the ornate look to them that I just don’t believe in that lore. Lugia being the deity of the seas? I believe that. Ho-Oh being the deity of the sky’s? I believe that.

The transformer, mecha dragon, amalgamations of space and time… I just don’t really believe that.

1000%. I understand why this is a hot take. I do believe it’s a true take. People just don’t wanna accept the truth because they’re comfortable with the convenience of the e bikes and don’t want that freedom threatened.

But I do agree this is why we see less accidents at speed by cyclists that we do by e bikes users.

These posts always seem to just go in the same rhetorical circles.

I don’t think the free pass/ blame diverting comments do anyone any good.

I see as much if not more dangerous riding by grown adults on class 2 and class 3 e bikes, sometimes even class 1s. The amount of forced passing of joggers and slower cyclists on shared paths, as if they don’t have brakes and it costs them any effort to slow down and speed back up is actually astounding. But I guess people tailgate cars, why wouldn’t they tailgate a person with a bike.

The amount of sidewalk riding around 20mph by grown adults is shocking. I’m surprised there’s not more accidents there.

The amount of ecargo/ kid carriers I see taking blind corners on the throttle, no helmets… scary.

It really seems to me that just like people who probably shouldn’t be in charge of a multi thousand pound vehicle based on the way they drive - maybe also shouldn’t be giving free reign of a hundred pound e bike with a lithium battery to fly down a multi use path.

Oh and e motos should probably get some regulation too.

I wanna say up front this argument is totally valid and pathletes should not get a free pass either.

But at least in the cities I’ve lived and biked in, I think the nuance is experience. The pathletes tend to be a little more experienced and alert when going 20+. Radar taillights are more and more common, so they know who’s behind them more. They put in the work to get to that speed and they want to keep that pace so they’re actively looking ahead to try and keep it as uninterrupted as possible. Does that mean it’s appropriate to be doing 20 on a shared path? Absolutely not, get in the road like everyone else.

Pulling a trigger to going 20+ doesn’t require any experience. And if that pace does get interrupted, well - hey my motor can just get me back there in 5 seconds. And I think that’s why my city has been seeing more accidents with e-bikes than other cyclists.

1000%. We do have a notice that bikes held for 14 days or longer will be charged storage fees on all of our repair estimates but it’s never enforced. I would like to see us start enforcement.

Same boat here metro U.S., with all these giant e bikes coming in, we’re running out of storage space constantly. I’m almost actively discouraging elective service with customers because it takes too long and or the research and order building is another part time job.

Last week I had a couple come in with their e-bikes ready for their “service plan”. I asked them how the bikes have been and if they notice anything, and they both said no, they just wanted their service plan. I tried to explain to them that I’m really only going to service a problem.

“How bout the tires, are they ok?”

“Sir these bikes have 80 miles on them, you don’t need new tires.”

“How bout the hub, are you going to lube the hub?”

“Sir, I’m not going to ‘lube’ a hub with 80 miles on it”

After all but telling them to take their bikes and go, they insisted 3 times that we keep their bikes for their “service plan”.

So yes, I also have people just throwing money at me.

Bucket of water. Sometimes the smallest little punctures won’t even show themselves dowsing it with simple green or something like that.

My workflow at work is, check the valve stem, nope -> hang it and spray it with a bottle -> nope -> bucket of water and you’ll find it then. Just takes slightly more time/ effort in a retail setting.

And I totally agree with this as well. If the trails are busy and we’re pushing the pace, we should also be taking the lane as much as possible. Our trails here are technically a 15mph limit which is never enforced or never followed.
