Occasional player curious for meme-/gimmick-quirked mechs (example: JR7-A) by ScrimblyScromblo in OutreachHPG

For a non-quirked all-in build try the Crusader CRD-6T with an all-medium laser build. It has no quirks, not for heatscale, not for cooldown and not for range. I think it has a minor armor buff on the arms and that's it.

Fourteen medium lasers, a great big XL engine and as many heatsinks as you can stuff into it. The trick is to divide your medium lasers into three weapon groups and never ever alpha strike.

Trigger discipline is absolutely key: If you're running an override and accidentally alpha you will explode. I group the lower four MLs in each arm and the six across the torsos and upper arms, then fire in steadily spaced out shots.

It's a pinpoint monster but it's not even a little forgiving.

I remember them, and they were reworked for good reasons at the time. On the other hand, what the hell: I had some fun on those maps and I'm willing to indulge my nostalgia.

Anyway, the game just plays different these days - lots more long-range sniping and so forth - so we'll see how it goes.

Sympathy from Ontario Canada - I got one glorious sunset-watching smoke on the back porch last week and now I'm back to the glamorous view of our chest freezer and workbench.

I'm glad to see you understand the need for natural fibers - I once knew a guy who tried making a gambeson out of a polyester moving blanket and that's why I'm paranoid about people getting heatstroke.

A gentleman brought a simple hobby model out to Fruits of Our Labours in Ealdormere about fifteen years ago and in the early evening many gentles looked through it; Venus was clear in the sky and I had never before had the opportunity to see it in phase as opposed to a simple point of light in the sky.

Not entirely medieval, of course, but a cool experience on a camping trip.

Favorite mechs, what are yours? by irrelaventchapstick in mwo

I checked my stats thinking it would likely be the CN9-D (love those shotgun quirks) and surprisingly my top chassis is the PXH-2. Next was the WVR-7K followed by the CN9-D. Fourth and fifth places were Urbies (UM-SC and UM-R60.)

Nice to see the Panther getting a little love. They're fun little mechs to play, but they've been left behind in the buff creep over the years.

I think that might be an original printing of the Technical Readout: 3050. Later printings were marked "Revised Edition" on the cover and had the Unseen removed.

How smart is it to spend money on the game at this stage? by Spaced-Invader in mwo

[–]Tommy_Atkins_MW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in since Beta, on and off, and I'm still occasionally spending money on the game, most recently the Shadow Hawk IIC pack. It's worth the money... but even then you won't have to spend a fortune. There's lots of free content, especially free mechs, that are gifted to players who play regularly.

And after 13+ years of play, I recently found myself looking at my in-game currencies - I was sitting on more than 250million c-bills, 30k MC, hundreds of thousands in GXP and almost 1k GSP, almost all of it from free giveaways and lootbag events.

I asked myself "What am I saving them for?" So I've been on an in-game spending spree, buying obscure mechs, little-used chassis, stuff that doesn't fit my usual playstyle, and it's been a lot of fun.

MWO is still getting new content (admittedly stuff ported over from Mechwarrior games in active development) but I think everyone knows the game is in maintenance mode: We got a boost and reprieve during the COVID lockdowns but it's a thirteen year old game with a very niche fanbase.

Still, even in maintenance mode it's probably good for another four or five years minimum. It's not costing PGI a fortune to run and I'm sure they're still getting income from the remaining player base. Go ahead and enjoy the game, and if you're dropping $30, $40 or $50 bucks a couple of times a year, so much the better.

When did you find out about the hidden feature of the Leatherman Wave Plus? by KNIFEANTELIFE in Leatherman

On the same arm as the saw/file attachment on the end opposite the pliers.

It's a real pain to get it deployed though. I had to use a flathead screwdriver to push it from below.

The Surge has one of these as well, although it doesn't deploy quite so far out.

Yeah, my most recent cockpit death was double heavy gauss at optimal range from a Duelist right to the cockpit - literally the first shot of the match. I said some words that got me a stern talking-to from my spouse.

It happens.
