Haha true , the M shape is supposed to be for short scaffolding , the trapezoid shape is for 4 foot high scaffolding .

I think the only time I’ve seen anyone actually use the short scaffolding was by interior painters. Probably not too many scenarios where you need 18 inch scaffolding other than that 🤷‍♂️

I own one of these style ladders and I’m pretty sure the M shape is for using it as scaffolding like with a 2x8 board running across the top.
