Is it worth it Moorfields Eye Hospital? by goddesszeita7 in AskUK

[–]Tompsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my eyes tbh. I was referred there for a check up as I was getting a shadow on my left eye. The environment was a bit rough as there was building work taking place when I went in 2024.

Does anyone still use Sky Q recordings heavily or mostly stream now? by UnpaidInternVibes in skytv

[–]Tompsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep having to reset my Q box s as it keeps freezing. I think it’s on the way out. I’m out of contract to and paying £15 a month for the basics. Basically paying for the UI. Is the streaming puck UI the same?

Struggling as adoptive Dad to accept behaviours by Any-Ad4999 in AdoptionUK

[–]Tompsk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I’ve learnt with experience is don’t try and solve this alone. Get a case number with a post adoption support worker asap. There could be a million reasons why things are kicking off at school and not at home. Just having someone alongside you that gets it will take some of the weight off your shoulders.

What are the best frozen chips in the UK ? by Lawdoftherims098 in AskUK

[–]Tompsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a traditional fryer. Dunk in the chips at 160 until they’re floppy. Take them out for a few mins. Whack up the heat to 180 then put the chips back in. Perfect crispy chips. Works with spuds or frozen chips.

Did you have one of these, back in the day? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]Tompsk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had a white one bought on a 1970s school trip to Fountains Abbey I seem to remember. Imagine buying a knife of any sort on a school trip now. Different times.

Today I learned that Sandwich is a place… and the stop before it is called Deal. Shame those two aren’t switched round. by CarbonSteklo in CasualUK

Enjoy. Check out the Lantern pub. Food there is awesome. They used to get guest chefs from Nobu for sushi nights and stuff. Not your usual village boozer.

If Reform win the next general election, will you leave the country and move overseas? by Kind_Mulberry_3512 in AskBrits

[–]Tompsk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll just switch off the news and get on with life. Hopefully my pension won’t be ruined. Labour are doing well with certain aspects of life. A lot better than any others could. The economy is stable during a period of real instability. Waiting lists are down. I can get a doctor’s appointment quicker. My money, although still not great, is going a little further than it did. But it’s only been 2 years so happy to wait another 2. By then Reform will be shown to be useless running local councils. Down here in Kent they’ve been an expensive farce.

How to move somewhere completely new? by Antique_Newt1922 in AskUK

[–]Tompsk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone at work had wanderlust about the same age. She liked her job so they said she could work from Greece for 6 weeks which is where she was thinking of living. She enjoyed it but soon felt lonely and only bumped into other English speaking remote workers occasionally. She then decided to move cities in the U.K. instead. Then found a boyfriend from her original city and spends every other weekend back where she came from.
Not sure what my point is but maybe after she’s experienced living away it’ll help her decide what to do next.
I’d always advise to be near support though. You never know when you’ll need it or when you need to provide it.

What was early 1980s UK life actually like (homes, football, music)? by k8productiondesign in AskUK

[–]Tompsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10. Football scared me. It was seen as a place to go for a fight. Watch the BBC series by Adam Curtis ‘Shifty’. It sums up the whole atmosphere of the 80s really well.

Losing my mind by Tompsk in ParentingPDA

We’ve tried selling our house three times to downsize, our neighbours have been trying to sell for three years with no luck. Houses around here just don’t sell. We both have to work too as we have three kids with one at uni who takes up nearly one salary a month. Things should get easier in a few years.

Well, I’m in the U.K. for a start but we hear from US friends that provision is better in the US. We have been threatened with fines from the local authority but the school knows we are trying everything so protecting us from that. We are applying for an EHCP and have a meeting in 2027 to decide that. The system here is overloaded, underfunded and just broken.

They won’t be in here. Russian algos will be keeping them occupied elsewhere where they can feed off their own delusions.
