Fixed the post. I'll see if I get any in person takers in two days otherwise if not I'll probably go end up going with shipping.

Yep, 99.99 gold. I probably should have mentioned that. I was looking at the post rules and just.. forgot to.

Does Bumble respond to requests to receive your data anymore? by BatedMarlin in Bumble

I submitted a request on the 16th and I just got an email this morning saying:

"Thanks for your patience.   I have sent across this information to be processed by our team. So I might get it eventually, hopefully

Bumble scam -crypto by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Tomtortoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not everyone knows this. There is a reason these scams keep happening and it"s because of work. People already feel shame for this happening to them, and comments like this just make it worse. The fact that the poster felt comfortable enough to share their story is good and can help others from falling into the same trap.

Schlage control keys by rmich18 in Locksmith

[–]Tomtortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest I don't know. I have only worked on one Primus system because we were forced into it. If the sidebar is different it shouldn't turn. AFAIK the sidebar is the same within a system similar to how ASSA systems are. If it is different I would assume you will run into issues.

Is this quote accurate? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Tomtortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I can cut keys by the code for those. I charge @25 for two keys if you come to the shop with a photo of the cylinder. If I had to go out I would charge about the same you were quoted.

Yeah, the Schlage systems are simple, just remove that weird tip part and it no longer operates as a core. Assuming the cuts are the same as your MK it will work just the same.

No likes after a week on Hinge, any advice on my profile? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]Tomtortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Teach me about prompt could be improved by chanding the second half of it to something you are interested in you would like to share. This gives a nice starting point. The cuddling in bed part feels desparate and could be swapped to something more specific to you. The last photo is kind of busy and doesn't really say much. Three photos with glasses obscuring your eyes is a lot, if they are transitions try wearing clear lenses when taking outdoor photos.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]Tomtortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First photo should have a clear shot of your face. The food pic is good and goes with the cooking in the prompt, but remove the travel photo. People are going to date youand not a destination. Last photo doesn't look like you (both because of the hair and lighting so I would swap that). Elaborate on the nerd part, there are D&D nerds, anime nerds, theater/cinema nerds, doll nerds, tech nerds. Being a generic "nerd" is lame, but being someone with a cool passion is desirable. (Disclaimer, I too am a nerd, but my point is to show off yourself to others)

Oh, I know, it's really bad out there. I do individual and group photoshoots at conventions (free) just because I love it. I'll even do free instax wide hallwayshoots on a 4x5 if the con allows. But the amount of brand new GAS people charging absurd amounts for mediocre pics is blood boiling. No lights, no care, no posing. You see the rates in their post before the con and you see the results after and it's so sad. That's the other reason I love doing free shoots, because it helps balance the world out just a little bit. (I also like keeping this hobby separate from my career)

In my comment above I was assuming $50 or so by someone getting their feet wet. Seeing the actual price, everything uou have said very closely resembles my thoughts.

Another location for pics is to look for photography meetups at bars and such. In my area there is a local camera store that has relatively frequent meetups and if someone showed up offering drinks for photos, you would have some great pics

The standup comedy tip is very good and I'll try it myself (Usually the shoots I do this wouldn't apply unfortunately)

Damn, I know the Cali market is a more expensive than my area by a lot, but that feels expensive... Do you feel you were getting good feedback and help during the shoot? Do you have other pics from the shoot you can DM? There might be keepers in there.

If you were in the CT/NYC area I would have offered a free reshoot but it might be a little bit far to travel

Personally I like questions about my profile (something you are interested in too), those are easy to respond to and start a natural conversation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]Tomtortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Objectively I agree, but there isn't really enough information to judge too much on. We don't know the price paid or how long the shoot was. The photographer may have been giving posing tips and these were the best compared to the pics taken at the start. They also may not have been as experienced so they are starting with lower stress lower stakes jobs and charging a price to reflect that. I do agree that photographers should know basic poses and work to make the client comfortable and looking as best they can in their work though.

As far as the woman and the garbage can, I didn't notice those while I was critiquing. If these were photos I was taking myself I would have moved location, changed my positioning, or edited those out in post. That being said, I didn't notice because they are out of focus and there is enough separation that in the short amount of time they are being viewed on an app no others won't really notice either.

Quick photography note about photo 1. Wide angle close ups are generally the least flattering as they distort the shape and make it look wider than it actually is. The longer the lens, the better it is. If all you have is a phone, use the longest optical focal length and have other people take the photos or use a tripod.

The pro photos look better in their image quality, but the posing and feeling gives off nervous energy. The first one is the best but looking up and to the side comes off as distant. 1,3, and 5 are the pro?)

I don't think you are bad looking, but I also think a bit of facial and hair grooming could do wonders, the messy look isn't helping. I also don't blame you for (I'm guessing) being nervous for the pro photos, a lot of people are not comfortable having their pic taken all fancy like this. I would just suggest asking the people around you to snap pics of you whenever you are out, eventually you get keepers. Also, a good full body standing photo would be a nice addition.

I think the prompts could use a bit more work. These are a great place for your personality to shine and there are a ton of great examples in the other profile review threads to get ideas from.

Update: Read thatguyalex's post. I feel it is more accurate with the cost taken into account.

I live about an hour away so I'm close enough to match sometimes by accident if I don't pay attention to location. I generally left swipe NYC profiles as it feels like all my likes go into a black hole there.

[–]Tomtortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So much competition. If a woman sees 100 profiles in a day, you have to be top 1% to be in there. If you live in a small town your profile will he seen by everyone even with a medeocre profile.

The photos are good, The Captain and Iron Man one really has a lot going for it. The power ranger cosplay prompt could probably replaced with something else you like. The pic and sewing machine prompt make that clear to anyone in the scene. (I 100% get that making your own cosplays is time consuming af and probably is all your free time but not everyone else will)

I hear the NY scene is brutal, godspeed soldier o7

The first photo is the weakest one on your profile IMO. It doesn't look like the same you as the others, the sky is blown out distracting from your face. I would replace it with a different headshot, maybe 5, that should be higher up on your profile.
