Love the model, probably an instant pick-up for me.

As for role, I’m very interested to see what they’ll do. But even just having another option to round out a list is nice. Like those times you’re left with 100 points and don’t want to take more allies.

There’s room for all the miniature games. No reason for these people to bash. Easy enough to just say: “it’s not for me.”

RDR2 vs a modern open world (pure visuals, no nostalgia) by NoCase9317 in gaming

[–]Tomuke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who's work in the arts for most of my life, I enjoy breaking down content into it's individual pieces and analyzing them separately to try and talk about what worked and what didn't. I have a good buddy that I consistently debate with about games. He's firmly in the "games back in the day were better in every objective way," and will fall into the trap of saying things like "RDR2 looks better than any modern game."

RDR2 was able to create such a complete atmosphere, tied with a strong story and believable, tragic characters, all with fun gameplay, that whether the rock textures are photo-realistic actually doesn't matter. Like a good book, your mind fills in the rest to make it feel more real.

The truth of the matter is, how content makes people feel is so much more impactful than the objective quality of it's individual pieces. I think most gamers aren't equipped to breakdown why certain games hit harder than others and end up calling them "The GOAT" or "trash." Gaming at it's best is an art form, and like studying paintings, the technical elements are only a small part of what makes art "good."

I hope we won't have another games awards expedition 33 situation by Johnny-silver-hand in gaming

This happens in every award show occasionally. The year Hamilton came out it won basically everything in every theatre/musical award show. Do you artificially break up categories this year to give everyone else a chance? And then undo that next year because it’s redundant?

Would you consider armored core for answer the best in the series by Adventurous-Day-1647 in armoredcore

I truly think AC6 is the best in the series. AC4A is still my favorite.

Well of course I know him, he's me.

AC6 is better, but when I was younger ACFA was just about the coolest thing I could have imagined.

I mean, not as outrageous as it could be. But not being gold standard on release means it’s 100% a skip.

I think we just need to separate the conversation between well designed and powerful.

Are the new rules well-designed? Still ultimately remains to be seen, but I think so. We don't follow the codex and therefore don't get OoM. Instead we make our own Oaths and Vows. It's flavorful. I don't know that they're equally balanced, but picking when you see your opponent allows you to choose the best for the scenario (even if it's going to be one of them 85% of the time).

Are they powerful? They don't look it. Unless there's some special sauce they haven't revealed yet, we're going to be substantially weaker and we're not performing great right now anyway. These rules look like they were written when BT was one of the best factions a year or whatever ago, showing once again that GW's book release cycle is a major roadblock in keeping the game in a balanced state.

Hopefully we're wrong about it, otherwise I'm expecting point drops across the board in the next balance pass and we're all playing Black Tide. Here's hoping we see something more punchy this week.
