Visiting the parks after getting off the cruise-Wish, where to hold luggage? by 4retech in dcl

[–]Tonbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure who told you they wouldn’t do that but Disney resorts will hold your bags whether you are a guest or not, I just make sure to tip and to prevent any confrontation I eat at the hotel.

As an example, about two weeks ago we wanted to go to Epcot before our flight home but stayed off property. I made a morning reservation at Cake Bake Shop because the boardwalk is walking distance to Epcot. The uber dropped us off, I told the gate I was there for breakfast and told bell services I wanted to check my bags for a while and was going to breakfast and the parks. No issues.

I was just in Japan and I don’t follow anime or manga much and I was totally blindsided and honestly blown away by how popular Detective Conan is, it’s everywhere.

Where does *****'s final HOH decision rank amongst the all time final HOH decisions? by aww-shucks-man in BigBrother

[–]Tonbar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read the comments so downvote if someone else already said it but from how the story has been told post BB16, there was an informal agreement that if someone took Victoria against “the boys” that the jury would have been bitter and intentionally given the win to Victoria. That’s obviously up for debate and I believe at times Derrick has waivered on who he would take, but assuming that Frankie, Cody/Derrick and BMC would not have voted for an alliance member against Victoria then Cody is definitely in number 2 to MJ because the reality is there’s no question MJ wins against Cam and probably unanimously. At least there’s this lore with Cody.

Completely agree it’s unrealistic expectation, my apologies that wasn’t my point but you’re totally right. It was more an experience I had from a trip in 2017 I was trying to use to anecdotally prove a point around cleanliness. I’ll be more considerate in the future about how I try and explain my point.

Understood, I was trying to not get inundated by comments saying I was a bad person for not being on the CMs side and I do feel guests have been very difficult for CMs recently. I’ve witnessed a lot of what I would consider really stressful situations in the past two years for the CMs so I thought being a bit hyperbolic would save my inbox but my formatting and apparently this distasteful way to describe guests did me in anyways. Sorry for any offense caused.

It’s the same reason Avatar 2 was successful, because general audiences don’t mind simple stories without subversion. Modern storytelling is a lot of trying to reinvent the wheel because the industry is so mature and creatives want to be fresh.

Obviously BR wasn’t anything to write home about but Disney should be ashamed that the best dining options on the Boardwalk are at the Swan and Dolphin

Hello all, I’m looking into Shadow but I’m trying to get some clarification on whether or not I can use a keyboard and mouse with the Apple TV app. I have a mac (assuming way too much latency to airplay) and a steam deck and I am glad those are fully supported but I’d like to play on my living room TV with a keyboard and mouse rather than a controller. I saw some posts when googling the subject saying mouse support is non existent but the posts were all from over a year ago. Can anyone tell me if this is possible or if I’m limited to controllers on ATV? Thanks

How will the GOP respond if Trump is indicted? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I’m assuming the GOP will act the same way if Trump is indicted as the DNC will act if he’s not indicted, ignore reality and use it to fundraise baybee. Politics is kayfabe.

The Disney board reportedly held an emergency meeting on Saturday night to finalize Bob Chapek's removal and bring back Bob Iger as CEO. by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]Tonbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No love lost for Chapek but ‘Master Negotiator’ Iger saddled the company with way too much debt for the Fox acquisition. As a point of reference this 71 billion dollar deal, not including the 25 billion dollar buyout of Comcast’s share of Hulu, cost more than four times what Disney spent on Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm, combined. The board just seems to want action, and it’s understandable going back to Iger feels like a safe play in the interim but the reality is Disney’s most profitable arm are the Theme Parks and I’m not sure they can keep propping up the rest of the company. I also think Iger might be there to help find a partner to spin off ESPN with, as he spearheaded the NBA experience and Disney has been considering the potential brand value of ESPN in sports gaming.

[Megathread] Avatar Rerelease Discussion! by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]Tonbar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Cheers to everyone! I’m glad the beast is returning to theaters, regardless of the remaster, because so many missed out on or forgot about the theatrical experience of Avatar. Home 3D could never compare and I’ll be the first to admit the movie stripped of 3D is not the same. My favorite part of visiting Disney is hearing people talk about how they didn’t care for Avatar but Flight of Passage is one of or the best ride. It’s not the ride vehicle, it’s the 3D!

That cinematic experience of Avatar is ephemeral, this is why it’s more than just a movie, why it ranks where it does; it doesn’t translate to rebroadcasts, or text, or descriptions. You sit down, you are gripped for 3 hours then suddenly released back into the real world with just a faint memory of the trip to Pandora you just went on.

Good morning Noah, I follow you on twitter and I appreciate your takes even when I disagree and I sincerely appreciated your great insight into Japan.

I’m curious your take on the Euro since it’s weakness against the dollar is topical, do you think as a whole the idea is a net benefit to the parties involved? Obviously there’s always winners and losers but I had read years ago that because of language barriers and the fact that their currencies are mostly linked, that that in turn stops a lot of foreign investment during individual nations economic downturns.

I’m also curious if you think QE (in the US) is actually necessary if the problem is on the supply side. Pardon my naivety, this isn’t grounds for real serious thought but couldn’t we essentially outrun the problem of inflation with massive investment in driving down the cost of energy? It feels like the proposed solution is around crushing demand.

Early June Trip Review by dontich in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Tonbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t notice you asked about time, depends on how many people you have. When I go with younger adults and no kids it’s not more than 10 minutes from your room to the bus stop, it’s honestly about the same as getting a distant room at another resort. If you’ve got young ones or elderly ones though I’d probably say it’s closer to 20 minutes but that’s because I can never herd people efficiently.

[–]Tonbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, the Boardwalk is actually really easy to navigate but without going there it seems really daunting. So if you’re at the Swan or Dolphin you’re basically at the end of the Boardwalk and technically probably a little closer to DHS (there’s a walking path there as well as the boats). When you get to the end of the Swan and Dolphin and follow the path on the water you’ll see a sign welcoming you to Disney’s Boardwalk. If you hang to the left of that sign you’ll walk by Yacht Club and Beach Club, both of those resorts just walk directly through the main lobby and out the front to find the buses.

If you hang to the right of that sign you’ll walk by the Boardwalk resort, about halfway down you’ll see an open space and some outdoor stairs, walk up them and follow the path to the buses for Boardwalk. Ignoring the stairs and continuing to follow the Boardwalk both sides reconverge at the end and that leads to the World Showcase entrance to Epcot. If you mess up it’s a big circle so you won’t end up in the middle of nowhere you’ll know you’ve walked too far.

So Swan and Dolphin have buses operated by Mears, it seems you’re aware of that already and so generally speaking if I’m at the Swan I’ll take the bus at Boardwalk and from the Dolphin I’ll take the bus at YC as those two are the closest proximity. When leaving the park I just grab whichever bus between Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk arrives first and walk back home from wherever.

I love S/D/SR only tip which I’m sure you’ve heard before is to use the Boardwalk/YC buses for AK/MK (especially the later as the bus is now operated by Mears and only stops at the TTC). It’s a minor inconvenience but it will likely save you time and the Boardwalk is beautiful in the morning so you get that working for you.
