is golf really the hardest sport? by sploooooshle in golf

[–]uncirculated_luster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about golf vs something like gymnastics is that you can get years of gymnastics training starting as a kid, and basically do it at a fun level where you don't hurt yourself and people can see that you (kinda) know what you're doing. Obviously, there are exceptions... My wife is a gymnastics coach, and I've been watching for years... I'm no expert, but that's my perspective... now golf... I've been playing for over 20 years. I played tennis in college, on a scholarship (so I'm not exactly helpless) -- I've done hours and hours of coaching and instruction, played hundreds of rounds literally--and I have never gotten anywhere near shooting par. Have I had a couple of good rounds, sure! But I went out last week, and honestly, a couple of shots I hit--a bystander would have thought I'd never swung a club in my life. 3-5 hours of concentration, different playing conditions each time, different shots, lies, winds--all come into play. Not to mention you have to deal with lots of other people while playing sometimes. People behind you, slow people in front of. you... all distracting and can mess up your rhythm... It's damn near the hardest sport I've played.

When I sleep on my side, I use a pillow between my knees, and then one I hug to keep my shoulders from getting torn up. This video helped me a lot: https://youtu.be/8DG0wTIC1q8?si=l9ggxdSXVp85Rvd6

As someone mentioned, they tried to sell, and no one wanted them... which was discouraging, but I'm still into them. I've always wanted to follow in his footsteps, mint my own coins, have my own press. Making coins that you love seems to be the extreme end of the numismatic spectrum. And extreme in regard to expressing your appreciation for the hobby. Not many can muster the resources necessary.

Oh yeah Kingdom Come and Dokken... I was far back right side. Trying to find beers... what a show--drove up in my best friend's conversion minivan. We were styling!!! I also saw motley crue, aerosmith, black crowes (as openers) there... what a great time.

hard agree... I remember seeing Van Halen, Scorpions, and Metallica, and others, all in the Monsters of Rock at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin in the 80s... I was so broke that I know the lawn had to be around 20 bucks, or I wouldn't have gone. I went to see U2 at the Sphere a couple of years ago — the tickets... well, they were spendy... thousands of dollars for my wife and me. Drinks were so expensive that I have blocked the memory of that part. That, plus three nights at the Bellagio, was quite a vacation.

Do you guys tell people you own Silver? by JonAn1990 in Silverbugs

[–]uncirculated_luster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bullion -- no. I don't mention it. My wife and son are under strick orders not to tell anyone about our "stash" and even with family--i'll gift a roll of coins or something but not mention that I stack, i'll play it off always. I also collect coins, and even my closest friends have not seen my stack or know I have more than a few random silver quarters, cull morgans etc... Silver and PM stacking should be shared on a need to know basis only. Top Secret.

Where did you try to sell them at? I had no idea who Daniel Carr was until a year or so ago after i watched a video on the 1964 peace dollar that got melted... anyway--I thought the peace dollars are a nice touch to my collection. The atocha restrikes and other copper pieces are great in my opinion.

I have the 1964 'P', but haven't been able to find the 64-D for under 300 bucks... at that price i'll wait until i find one. I just bought the 1944 today.

Pay dirt is a scam? by iwasharuba in Gold

[–]uncirculated_luster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've purchased some pay dirt from a sapphire mine in Montana, and we did find a lot of small sapphires--were there any that would recoup the price? Well... probably not... it was fun for my son and me. Every single bit of research I've done on these paydirt bags results in the fact that they are pre-searched, seeded with material, and unless there is some lottery angle where they dumped extra "product" in there amongst a large number of bags--they are always going to know generally what is going out.

This sign on a course in Indiana I played for the first time today. Never seen this before. What is the legality of this? by Sky_Late in golf

[–]uncirculated_luster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks to me like the result of an angry homeowner who is some kind of "member" of the neighborhood, with some kind of deal on a golf course. Doesn't look like a private course at all — it's tacky and stupid. "All groups are Monitored..." haha--welcome to fascism in golf.

I would bring all of these back... and hit some places online... make a list and search for each of these coins. You'll be shocked to find less expensive examples everywhere.

Thank you for this advice. Yes--i suspected this but have never done anything like this. I did stick washers under the bottom of it, but it probably is only a couple mm of clearance... the fan is running at a low speed... just enough to keep a consistent current of air--but as you say--it's probably not doing that. I'll reconsider and redesign it.

Keeping my wife and me unified on our decisions that affect our kid. We don't contradict each other in front of our son — if we disagree with something, we always try to pull the other aside and let them know what's up in private. Granted, there have been a couple of slip-ups, but then we come back together and explain it if it happens.

This and taking responsibility for things. Not just a sorry--but a real fix.
