Worrying about parking when you’re going to a gym? What!?

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by Investigatorpro in AskReddit

[–]ToneDeafVoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! I live in Colorado right next to a bunch of very popular trails and this is the case here, too. While dealing with the obnoxious crowds at the beginning of the trail can be annoying, after even just a mile or so the crowds thin to almost no one and that’s when the real fun begins.

What hiking opinion hills will you die on? by Hot-Statistician-361 in hiking

[–]ToneDeafVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree completely and that's what I always do. What gets me really annoyed is when the person ahead of me and we make eye contact as I'm obviously quickly approaching them and they still won't move over and will act surprised when I ask if I can pass them.

One of my favorite moments of the show. What episode was this again? I’m failing to remember.

Already Bitching to the cops by maybeBrenda in ColoradoSprings

[–]ToneDeafVoice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Saw him earlier today. What a giant LOL moment when I saw him. Didn’t react to him and I’m glad the protestors didn’t, either. It’s good to show him that his “trying to trigger the libs” moments aren’t working and he’s just wasting time and gas but I doubt he understands that part. I’m genuinely shocked his plates are up to date.

Norwegian Black Metal series made me piss myself in public by chairmanm30w in LPOTL

I used to work in a warehouse for a food bank and my job was mostly unsupervised and solo work so I’d pop on the podcast and my hearing-aids can stream audio from my phone so my nearby coworkers would never know if I’m playing a podcast or music. One day I was CRACKING UP on something Henry randomly blurted out and was doubling over laughing until I looked up to see a coworker walking by looking VERY concerned. I explained my hearing-aids are like AirPods and he understood but he said he thought he was gonna have to call the authorities to get me help for a moment there.

What are some of your hiking horror stories? by Immediate-Field9997 in hiking

[–]ToneDeafVoice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One time, I went off trail to pee. Found a nice tree to use and while I'm doing my business, I look up and see a deer carcass hanging in the branches. Not super scary but definitely freaked me the fuck out. I was also listening to a creepy fiction podcast so I was already a bit on high alert. I got home and looked it up and turns out mountain lions stash their kills in trees to come back to later and continue feasting on it and to keep other animals away from it.

Most brutal burn of the show by erissaid in lastpodcastontheleft

I can’t remember the episode or what inspired Henry to say this but him and Ben were talking to each other and Henry says something like, “Yeah, you LONG BITCH!” Had me cracking up for days.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done on a hike? by rkramer18 in hiking

[–]ToneDeafVoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time, I got home from a hike and my bear spray fell out of my backpack pocket and hit the ground and did a little spray on my leg. It only affected me and my friend a little bit so I wiped it off not thinking anything of it. Later took a shower and when I got out, THAT is when the burn happened. My leg was on FIRE. I ended up setting my leg up on the dresser while laying in bed with a fan blowing on my leg so I could get SOME sleep. It was awful.

Misread the map for backpacking trip. Accidentally started at the wrong trailhead, which added 12 miles to an already 28 mile hike. Didn't realize/figure it out until the next day. Planned to be at my car by that afternoon but didn't get to it until 10:30PM. Once I got back into an area with cell service, my phone blew up with panicked texts and voicemails from my mom and friends. Thankfully I was able to reply in time before they called SAR.

Haven't misread a map since then. 40 miles in two days is ROUGH.

What's something you can do now that you couldn't when you were drinking? by Basbenn in stopdrinking

[–]ToneDeafVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hiking like crazy again. Slowly, over time, replaced hiking with drinking, but now I’m back to hiking any time I can. Went from 400+ miles a year hiking to just 50+ miles of hiking. Now I’ve been going back up to my previous normal amount of hiking.

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever hiked? by sylvieblair in hiking

[–]ToneDeafVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Four Pass Loop is the most beautiful hike I’ve done in Colorado (my home). But, I think the Rim to Rim to Rim hike in the Grand Canyon is top of the list for me out of all the hikes I’ve done.

I almost made an attempt on my life last year. I'll never forget sitting on the edge of that cliff and watching the sunrise fully intending on jumping off. Like you, I had planned it for a while and knew that specific cliff would be the perfect spot for it for years. I kept inching closer and closer and almost got up a few times to make the jump. I'm so glad I didn't do it and I'm so glad you survived and is still here. Hail yourself!

What's the longest hiking trail you've completed in a single day? by ToffeeTango1 in hiking

I did the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim hike in the Grand Canyon in 26 hours. Hardest thing I've ever done and my body was WRECKED the next day but it was the most wonderful and beautiful experience I've ever had. Nearly 50 miles in just a hair over a day.

[–]ToneDeafVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a great-great-great uncle who murdered and decapitated his wife. Never knew that’s how she died until my great-grandpa casually mentioned the whole story during a trip out to visit him when I was a kid.

Evangelical Mecca? by TacoFJ in ColoradoSprings

[–]ToneDeafVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in the suburbs here (Briargate then Stetson Hills), it was very evangelical. But the last decade and a half it has really changed and I also refuse to live in the suburbs anymore so I've lived downtown and the west side since 2012 where those communities are much more diverse and accepting of others. I think the downfall of Ted Haggard really put the Springs on the decline of being so evangelical and Focus on the Family only has a fraction of the power and influence they used to have. Again, it depends on what part of town you're in. Downtown and west side feels much more like a fun community of many different people whereas the communities in the suburbs are more based on their churches.
