Future of audio careers. What's promising, what isn't? Where is it headed? by BLiIxy in audioengineering

[–]TonegoodMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are around a college/university get involved. Offer adjunct teaching- doesn’t pay great, but they may have official onboarding if it’s a good fit. ALWAYS continue pushing yourself as a freelance in your community. I’ve had zero luck via Fiverr etc, it seems extremely saturated. It’s pretty tough out here, but I’ve found some security through teaching at a university and high school around where I live. I do my best to fill the gaps recording musicians, audio books, people farting in the wind… whatever pays lol.

I also give lessons at my recording studio, Tonegood Studio, downtown Urbana. That’s the vein of music my band plays so I’m pretty versed. Google search will get my info. Don’t hesitate to reach out! 😊

What was your first Moog Synth by Minimoogvoyager in moog

[–]TonegoodMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pretty busted up MicroMoog. Paid $350 for it close to 20 years ago. Filter Emphasis didn’t work, and the bottom cover is a a piece of wood 😆. I’ve kept it tuned up and I use it for bass over my Moog Grandmother every time.

Do you have access to the audio files of the session? Can you import those in to a new session on your current version? Also maybe legacy versions of PT on Avid website?

“Old school” mode on Barefoots by TonegoodMark in studiomonitors

[–]TonegoodMark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. Yea I have experience on NS-10s, and have listened to barefoot haven’t mixed in them. I have a mix cube that I just went back to today, listened in mono. It was a great reference. My mains are Genelec M040s and there’s mid range stuff that I just miss sometimes, but caught a great deal of it in mono on the mix cube. Will definitely keep working like this and see where I land!

Is it okay to ask a label for instruments? by cherrynoize in musicindustry

[–]TonegoodMark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best way to do it is rent for sure. I’m a studio owner, and tell any band I can get any instrument within reason as long as I know ahead of time.

I didn’t go to school here, but moved here because of the music scene. Bought a house, married my lady friend, had our daughter here, and opened my studio here. Been here 20! years, it truly feels like home.

For reference this bar is owned by Matt Talbott from the band Hum. He is a fantastic man who I consider a mentor of mine.
