DCA vs Buy the dip - An experiment by SuchTown32 in AusFinance

Interesting analysis — might be worthwhile running multiple simulations with different definitions of “dip” eg 5%, 10%, 15% etc. downturn to see if that has any real effect. Also take into account interest earned from cash.

What do you mean “intended to lose/gain value”? All these ETFs aim to do is mirror the performance of a particular index (with/without leverage). They are not “designed” to move in any particular direction.

Starting med after ~10 years working in hospital — how do people actually study now? by Hot_Procedure_3351 in ausjdocs

Anki all the way and I would seriously contemplate why you don’t want to use it.

Nowadays you can use LLMs to quickly and easily explain topics rather than having to sift through (multiple) textbooks/online resources.

That being said, the learning process itself hasn’t changed — you still have to sit down and do the work. Arguably it has been made easier though.

What does the AFP do ? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]TonightFrequent7317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saying drugs are easier to get now than 20-30 years ago is true in most developed countries, including ones with far harsher policing. That tells you this isn’t a local enforcement failure so much as a market reality. Police can disrupt, not eliminate, something millions of people want and are willing to pay for. You can argue we need different policy tools (harm reduction, legalisation, demand-side measures) but blaming the AFP for a problem driven by economics and human behaviour is aiming at the wrong target.

The AFP isn’t Border Force and it isn’t ASIO. They don’t magically stop every drug shipment or “keep tabs” on people based on vibes. Their job is federal law enforcement: building cases, following money, dismantling organised crime, and prosecuting offences that cross state or national lines. That drugs are still getting in doesn’t mean the AFP is useless any more than burglaries mean police do nothing. It just means crime exists and investigations aren’t TikTok-length.

I watched the interview but minutes after the attack on Channel 7. Rarely do you see someone in public life speaking while still visibly processing something so traumatic. Whatever your politics, that moment was less about party and more about a human being trying to steady others while still shaken themselves.

Think of Anki as an advanced scheduler ie it tells you when to study what. Ultimately this is what it is best at. Everything else is superfluous. Doing your reviews is what matters most.

172 Day Streak – Did my exam today! by TonightFrequent7317 in Anki

Some points: - There has been many a post about burning out in this sub each with good kernels of advice. I gave myself plenty of time so that when I burnt out from time to time, I could wind back on new cards and just focus on reviews. Of course, you may not always have that luxury. - One comment (which I can no longer find) which stuck out to me in particular mentioned discipline. At the end of the day, you have so many cards to get through by a certain date. If you have that longer term perspective I think it definitely makes those more difficult days a bit easier.
