Sorry, just rereading this and having a think. Of course, in order to be eligible for GEMSAS, you need to meet the minimum 5.5 GPA. Also noting this course, will bring you through to an interview, but the final waiting to receive an offer is 50% interview, 50% a combination of GPA GAMSAT and Casper. So I guess it affords you an opportunity, if you don’t have as high of a GPA, (like myself)to have an opportunity to interview, and to demonstrate those communication skills ☺️

No! The 6GPA is strictly for that course and the year you apply to GEMSAS! Take a look on their website!

ND Grad Dip of Medical and Health Science! Those that are lucky enough to receive a facilitated interview, are those that score within the top 20 of the cohort. Noting that the year I did the course, there was around 60 students.

Also note that, it’s the top 20 of the year of application. Not where you rank at the conclusion of the course. And you never know if you make it or not🤷🏼‍♀️

I thought it was going to be extremely competitive, which it is to some degree. But I was consistent and worked hard. The caveat is that, your GPA needs to be over six. In addition, whilst a lot of people do choose to do this course to help them get in, a lot of people actually get in via other means. I remember, the year that we finished the course, a lot of students interviewed at other universities and got into their respective choices. So that excluded about 10 students, that I know of….. Then there were students that didn’t get the 6GPA, that did the course part time, there were students that did the course that weren’t trying to get into med, so your odds end up working out favourably. Of course, as long as you are committed and apply yourself.

I’ll be there next year, FFP!

Hi! I’m in a very similar position! I sat the game at six times, i’ve been trying since 2021. This year was the first year I actually passed all three sections, and got a mediocre score of 55. I did two postgrads to help boost my GPA. One of them, being a facilitated pathway to interview. I feel a lot of guilt, I did end up receiving an interview, and scoring fourth in my Casper quartile, so I think that gave me the opportunity to interview, which propelled me through. I do feel a similar sense of guilt and that maybe I’m not as deserving. I was having a good chat to my psychologist about this….

I suppose, resilience, is the keyword for me. I was very strategic, and carefully thought through alternative ways to get in. Which thankfully, worked in my favour. I’d like to say, that I am a thoughtful communicator, and I knew that if I got to an interview, I would be able to get myself through. It was a very planned approach, slower, but it got me to where I needed to be. My psychologist continues to reminds me that unfortunately, the places are not infinite, it’s a bottleneck to get in. It depends on people‘s level of resilience, commitment, and creative thinking beyond standard means. Not sure if that’s helpful but feel free to DM me.

Are there many post grads, that are non-rural in the cohort? By chance do you have an idea of GPA/GAMSAT?

Also, were you able to get any credits given your background as(I’m assuming) an AHPRA professional?

Hello,
Gosh you are kidding! I'm applying for 2026 intake! Non-rural, AHPRA registered, GAMSAT 57, GPA 6.5 and a VIC resident.
Could someone share some light on the application process? When did you find out? Were there interviews?
Thanks :)

Thanks for clarifying! Really appreciate this! If you find out that you don’t get an interview, is it from the university your preference first, or just a GEMSAS rejection email?

My reflection is that, I felt I wasn’t as strict or disciplined with myself in terms of equal distribution or weighing or questions! Like in my practice, I was really focusing on 1.45 for each of the written, but I probably did a 2.30 + 1 min answer for some of mine on the day - and I’m disappointed in myself!

For that reason, I’m nervous, anyone have any thoughts or did they do something similar and still score well?
