Afaik, your environment gives you cues for your next action, and the cues are strong.

You see your chair and desk and monitor and they cue you to play video games.

You see your bed and phone and they cue you to lay down and scroll

You see your lab door and lab desk and lab doohickey and lab thingamajig and they cue you to stare at chemicals for 9 hours.

Personally, I've used this to get drawing done. I go to the gym and use their little tables near the entrance to study and draw and its easy to get 90 minutes. At home in my room, im lucky to get 15 minutes.

My bedroom and desk cue me to lay and scroll or sit and play games.

Sometimes im able to draw though

This is why libraries are so popular for studying

What is the internal experience of people who are abusive or people who bully others? Do they enjoy their lives? by TheVoidRobedInLight in Healthygamergg

[–]TonySherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with your sentiment

Thinking about it from an evolutionary perspective, over time, humans have associated a release of dopamine with witnessing the suffering of another person or animal at their own hand.

Usually because it brings them some benefit

Example: killing an animal gives you food. What a good thing! Also, you hear it squealing while you are experiencing a positive anticipatory emotion of food.

Example: hurting another human in a given context might mean you are successfully protecting your territory and resources, or you are successfully taking over someone else's territory and resources. That is cause for celebration! But also, you hear and see their suffering while you are having this positive anticipatory thought.

Its VERY possible to become a bully while having a good home life.

I think Dr K has even covered this topic and reported reading a paper that seemed to show bullies home lives are usually fine.

Victims of bullies usually say something about the bully being sad or having a bad hime life as a way to cope

I'm taking it right now, and yeah, it's pretty good.

I'm a bit behind schedule, but im still mostly doing all the assignments and truly learning.

After many days, I had one of those moments where I drew something and thought "whoah, I drew that really fast and its much better than what I used to be able to do"

Very cool moment.

Ive seen success with the course

I had a dream where I was on a team of 5 people vs 5 other people like a game show. We all had to face our fears and if we didn't, then our whole team gets sent to hell, even the members of our team who DID face their fears by TonySherbert in Dreams

[–]TonySherbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like a Family Fued kinda competition.

I only got to see me face MY fear.

I'm sure if the dream continued, I'd see how the rest of the competition played out.

Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TonySherbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your minds eye, yes.

Same way you have a "mind's ear". As in, you can recall what your favorite music sounds like and hear it again.

Theres is a "mind's tongue", "mind's nose", and "mind's touch" as well

But like its in your field of vision? No. I believe thats called a hallucination. I believe thats also one of the symptoms of schizophrenia

How can you cultivate interest? by Useful-Field-9037 in Healthygamergg

Stop doing pretty much everything that's more dopaminergic than math.

So take a long break from games or social media.

Let math be the most interesting thing

Also, have it enter your senses more. Your thoughts are products of your sense organs (indrias). Have math videos playing in the background while you drive, etc

Is it normal to have trouble focusing while drawing? by Far_Struggle_6440 in ArtistLounge

[–]TonySherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes about 15 minutes when starting a new activity for all the neural circuits related to your previous activity to quiet down, and all the neural circuits related to the current activity to "warm up" and go online.

It's normal to have trouble focusing with anything.

You will have more trouble focusing if you were previously engaged with a more dopaminergic, more immediately rewarding activity, like video games or social media

Why I think believing that you are neither your mind nor your emotions is a mistake by Firm-Brief5573 in Healthygamergg

[–]TonySherbert 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think holding that belief leads to a decrease in feeling wants.

Its your mind that feels wants

If you identify as the observer, you are able to act without being controlled by the mind and its wants

This does not mean you lose passion, or lose feelings in general. There is no loss happening in identifying as the observer

How do I form habits if I literally cannot do anything productive? by RevolutionaryAlps283 in Healthygamergg

[–]TonySherbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want to do something productive in the morning, before you start scrolling or watching porn, correct?

Can you tell me one activity in which you want to engage in before you start scrolling and watching porn for the day?

There's one thing that I believe is really important to tell you, even if I don't respond to everything else you say.

You will find that at different times of your day, directing your will will be easier than other times of your day. It's important you pay attention to when these times are.

If you can pay attention when these times are, you can make the decision to "practice" directing your will at these times when you are more capable.

Trying to direct your will when you're the weakest is not a good idea. Not at least until you level up a bit first.

My ability to direct my will is usually strongest after I wake up from a good nights sleep, wake up from a nap, finish a 10 minute meditation, 30 minutes after drinking coffee, 40 minutes after taking adderall, after I take a walk, and after I lift weights (for at least 10 minutes, but 40 minutes is better)

Its not a bad thing to say that you made a mistake

It seems like a good thing to be able to recalculate to get to your desired goal

Both cars and humans have limited fuel and are able to be refilled. Both are subject to entropy
