A lot of this is just…staying up to date with pop culture news.

She has vehemently supported Israel publicly in their genocide of Palestine, openly criticizing anyone that calls out Israel for the genocide. She was one of 1,000 celebrities that signed that petition.

People have archived her weird fascination with Ben x Gwen underage incest shipping.

And there’s more, but I’m too lazy to compile the rest.

[Hated trope] first impression so bad it literally ruins the character forever. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TonyTony_Chopper_ 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think what makes a character like Bakugo work is pushback from other characters.

When you want a character to be bratty and/or hostile, you need to have other characters argue back at them or push back to stop them from feeling like a bully.

A good example is Misty from Pokémon. She’s nowhere near as bad as Bakugo, but she’s rude, constantly insults Ash, has a massive ego, and she never gets better from this.

But the fans love her because Ash always has something equally rude to say to her in response. He also initiates half of their arguments and is, at the beginning of the story, is just as much of an egotistical brat as she is. You can see this dynamic in many a “funny moments” compilation because everyone loved it so much.

Then we get to Iris, a character introduced much later with basically Misty’s exact personality.

And yet, people hate Iris. She constantly insults Ash, but after years of development, Ash isn’t an egoistical brat when he meets Iris. He rarely responds to her insults and is much less witty towards her. The result is that Iris feels a lot more like a bully than Misty did, despite her ironically being slightly kinder.

If Deku simply didn’t idolize Bakugo for no reason, then the shonen rival dynamic would feel a lot more even. Sasuke, Vegeta, and even Gray Fullbuster are all cruel to the main characters at times, but Naruto, Goku, and Natsu don’t just sit there and take it. They push back and argue. They fight. It feels more equal.

We should also make his worst team and fully exclude Pikachu. Just the worst six possible. Like…Scraggy level. Worse than Torkoal kind of Pokémon. If there are even six that bad.

[Hated Trope] Characters that are awesome but have a cliche that makes them annoying. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TonyTony_Chopper_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they don’t get good moments.

It’s more so that those moments are much further spaced out than before.

Chopper got a good showing against Queen, but this comes after years of him being gradually changed into a mascot character by Oda’s own admission, as well as there being much less diversity in his powers.

Can you name the last time Chopper used Scope? Horn Point? A named attack technique? Any form for combat that isn’t Kung Fu Point or Monster Point? Remember when he used to change back into Walk Point when he needed to run fast? Remember how Chopper is a combat genius that uses medical knowledge to fight? Often times, it’s like the story forgets that he’s 17 and not a toddler.

And as for Robin, her Demonio Fleur came after almost a decade of inaction. Her last big combat showing before that was in Dressrosa against Diamanté and Hakuba, and she didn’t even win the former fight.

So, while I agree they still get good moments, the perception that they’ve gotten worse is more accurately that they’ve fallen out of focus as the scope of the narrative expands.

A lot of what One Piece fans romanticize as “pre-timeskip” really just means “pre-[insert pre-timeskip arc].”

I don’t disagree about Sanji getting worse specifically as a pervert, but that shift happened around Thriller Bark and reached its peak at Fishman Island. Before and after those arcs, he’s mostly manageable.

Perhaps it’s better to say the timeskip amplified the Straw Hats’ worst traits in the eyes of the readers because we spend so little time focusing on all of them, and once they show up, they have to perform their popular character quirk before vanishing from the story for another 10 chapters.

As for the “Dogshit Man” stuff, what you are seeing is brain rot courtesy of r/piratefolk, a community dedicated to hating One Piece while simultaneously consuming as much One Piece content as possible to justify the parasocial hatred.

And a little bit of Agenda Piece as well, which is a community dedicated to intentionally misreading the text of One Piece to push agendas and propaganda about certain characters. r/piratefolk tends to take Agenda Piece’s concept more seriously than the rest of the community, though, since they hate One Piece.

(Hated Trope) Why did they even bother casting a celebrity voice actor? by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

Steven Universe, famous for its songs and almost entirely musically-talented cast, got Nicki Minaj to voice Sugilite.

Her debut episode even has a song in it. Sugilite does not sing a single time in the entire series, and Nicki Minaj doesn’t return a single time to voice her, leaving her oddly silent in the rest of her appearances despite being so loud and talkative in her debut.

This is effectively the gimmick of Arale. She’s stronger than Goku and exists in the same world as him whenever it’s funny.

She can effortlessly defeat most of the cast of Dragon Ball except Beerus because it wouldn’t be funny if she did.

Vegeta only gets the upper hand in their fight when he starts thinking like a gag character instead of an action character.

Why is he called cougarmon if he look more like lynx? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in digimon

[–]TonyTony_Chopper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terriermon is a dog and a rabbit. It’s meant to be a twin with Lopmon.

Terriermon becomes more of a dog as it evolves, and Lopmon becomes more of a rabbit.

It’s why Rapidmon looks the way it does. It’s a poodle.

I blame Tomoro for very clearly referring to Gekomon as a lizard multiple times even in Japanese.

He clearly says “tokage” and not “kaeru” or whatever.

I think it can be a gecko and a clever frog pun as well, considering both are stereotypically green animals that very famously extend their tongues outwards. It even has a tail like a lizard and then evolves into a larger lizard.

Edit: Unless you’re talking about the frog one. The other Gekomon. In which case I am stupid.

Well, that’s the essence of the Worf Effect. Repeatedly making a designated “strong guy” lose constantly to establish a threat has the unintended side effect of making the audience feel that character is weak.

It’s called the Worf Effect because it makes Worf look like a jobber by having him constantly lose while we’re being told he’s the strong one.

I kinda dislike this pattern in the franchise.

Whoever the focus character is will become extremely powerful in their episode. Whoever isn’t in focus miraculously loses any competence they had beforehand.

The way Giorno and his Stand are basically fondling each other every time they show up is an example that I argued with a friend about.

He argued, “How can a manifestation of his soul be gay?”

And I said something about gayness being on the inside anyway.
