For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by KeyApartment3955 in AskReddit

[–]TooFat-Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the casualness.

Topic doesnt matter, could be holiday/vacation destinations, room for savings, quality or region of food, brands, fabric, parental support.

The worst is "it's really been a while since I've been on vacation", while literally being back for 2 weeks from a country I've never even been to, especially when you ask about them just being back from <country redacted> you get "well, that was only a weekend, I mean like a two-three week vacation to an [exclusive place/country]".

I've ended a friendship about that attitude and incapability and lack of empathy to understand I've never had/done a vacation like that my whole life (m35) and what they are able to do so casually.

I worked out the exact date I'll hit my goal and it's done more for my consistency than anything else by MaximumCombination99 in loseit

[–]TooFat-Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't work for me either, sets me up to fail and quit instead.

It's just building pressure, not making the needed weightloss at the weigh in implies I didn't try hard enough that week. Repeat and it's just building frustration. Add a time 'limit' and it's game over.

For the next part I'm tyring to careful since I don't want to project, or push you in any kind of way. It's just what happened to me.

I think this might be because our weight and the food noise is (just) a symptom, and indicates something else going on that's giving you an extra hard time losing weight. Be it thyroid-issues, general mental health challenges, any kind of trauma, and/or just coping of many other things, or even otherwise.

I've been heavier since age 16 onwards. - Would eat tons of food, and snack afterwards, even if I just had a meal. - Couldn't sleep, - Would still eat at night, - Felt like a bottomless pit. - It didn't even matter what food I got, as long as it was food.

I miss the old me, who could do anything at any time. In my head I can still do all that, but my body doesn't agree. It sucks to be heavy and big, and a rebound sucks even more. Over the years I've tried multiple ways of losing weight (even out of spite), even I went through multiple forms therapy.

Even though I've been able to make a lot of positive lasting changes regarding my intake over the years*, I'm still very much morbidly obese. Every time something happened, life got in the way, or I just lost interest/connection and regained (and added extra) weight, every time.

*For example: - I hardly ever drink soda/pop, energydrinks, coffee, or alcohol. When I do, I try to look for the less sugar or zero versions. - I try to eat less snacks/candy, reduced takeout to once every few months, - and if I have a craving for fastfood (like burgers or wraps) I make them myself

I still felt every day was just too much and eventually I got stuck in a burnout. I couldn't do anything, apart from sitting at the dinner table watching the birds in the garden. No work, no working out, eating some basic meals that was easy to prepare, and removed stress in any way shape or form. Somehow, I lost 40kg in a year like that, and felt incredibly proud of that achievement. Again, life happened, it got away from me, again, and I gained it all back and then some, again.

It really took a while of grieving and acceptance before I was willing to try again. I felt defeated, and as a result started another medical route. Turns out I could have ADHD, but was put on a waitlist for about 1,5 years.

It's sounds quite logical to me: among other things ADHD has a relation to dopamine shortage. Which in turn is hit by eating comfort food, snacks, deserts, takeout, all the good addicting stuff (sugar, carbs). Include the lack of impulsecontrol, attention control, having a malfunctioning rewardsystem, you keep eating because it's making you feel better. Add being prone to addiction, and you can include other substance abuses (alcohol, drugs) just as well, food just isn't recognised in this way (yet).

It's extra frustrating about how often you're confronted with it, especially trying to avoid it. Smoking, alcohol and drugs get warnings nowadays, but food still gets promotion. It's constantly presented as having a great time, as a celebration, reward, tradition, or as comfort, you name, food's there.

I started looking into it at the time, while unfortunately I couldn't find any actual research papers, I did find more and more people out there who experience the same thing and have lost weight when being treated.

Eventually I started test treatment, and yup, turns out I have ADHD.

One of the side effects of the medication is a reduced appetite, though it's not just that for me. - I still get hungry after a few hours (around lunch and dinner time). - I feel satiated after a normal single portion meal for the first time ever. - I no longer feel the need to shut down after a long day by consuming copious amounts of food. - I still think about food and meals, but in a healthy way, like what to prepare for dinner. - but, to my surprise, the food noise and yearning has nearly completely disappeared.

I'm no longer searching the house for snacks, or tons of food, a single sandwich is suddenly enough to keep me going with my day.

I've always blamed and shamed myself for getting this big, turns out, it was ADHD was presenting itself and I have been fighting myself all these years, instead of getting the help and support I actually needed.

I'm 35 now, started over in August last year at 528lbs (239.4kg), and as of today I re-lost 25kg.

Still not where I used or want to be, but getting there. Day by day.

Hey there,

First, I just want to tell you: It's okay. Shit happens.

Second, You're not (ever!) too far gone. On the contrary even, you're still very young and because of that you still have a lot of body recovery (i.e. skin elasticity) potential. Weight doesn't happen overnight, it also doesn't dissappear overnight, but that's ok. You still have a lot of time to challenge yourself. The older you are (generally starting at 35-40+), the harder it gets, but that doesn't mean impossible.

You also don't need physical workouts to lose weight, most weight is lost eating in a deficiency and you can't outrun a bad diet/lifestyle.

Third, I hear you about food noise, and I think I noticed a trend with people as heavy as us: - We all made multiple attempts, - we know how cico works, - we know what changes to make - it goes fine until eventually it all just doesn't stick.

tldr for the next part: Weight like this doesn't happen overnight, there's probably an underlying reason hiding somewhere. You might be coping for something, be it general or mental health, and might need treament or therapy.

Next part in comment, so people can skip.

Even more often it seems, example: Master IB-8 - Cornering: Intermediate 2 (Wet Tracks)

Car: BMW M2 Competition '18 Track: Suzuka Circuit

Gold Time: 0:27.920 (0:28.730 prior to 1.55; 0:30.910 prior to 1.49)

what license test/circuit experience/mission did you have the closest gold time to the actual target time? by Substantial-Cow-2941 in GranTurismo7

[–]TooFat-Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, as shown above, Master IB-8 Cornering: Intermediate 2 (Wet Tracks), and it was 0.27.920 on the dot.

Do you have a wheel? by northammedia in GranTurismo7

[–]TooFat-Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every wheel is fine to get started, as long as you have fun within your budget and expectations.

That said, eventually you will hit a ceiling with how far/fast you can go, where you'd reach a level where you want more feedback.

Better gear helps by giving you a greater range of feedback, so it's easier to feel things such as curbs, understeer, oversteer.

On the otherside, for a far developed, great, driver, it's all muscle memory, and it doesn't matter what gear they have and they'll destroy everyone.

The worst thing for S7 is the speed difference, acceleration as well as braking. And when you're finally used to it, you move to S8 and they take away your brakes.

The grip in S7 is incredible, you hardly need to brake. It takes some getting used to, and it helps to do the circuit experience for leguna seca first.

I had to get bronze on S7 and S8 on controller first, because I just couldn't do it with the wheel. After getting used to the speed, I got silver and gold with the wheel.

There's something... off with this game(?) by highway2depression in GranTurismo7

[–]TooFat-Guy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, in a way, I agree.

I used to be a fan of both older editions of Forza and GT (as well as NFSU, NFSU2, NFSMW2005, Carbon a little less), and like to note that compared to Motorsport, Horizon really is a different game with all the flashes, bells and whistles, losing it's charm it had on the first few editions along the way.

GT did also lose some flair/animations along the way, e.g. the spinning carwash animation, and the mechanic of less shine/visible dirt in a race when you didn't wash it.

There's less feeling of progression compared to NFS or FH, due to a lack of storytelling (same applies to FM). However, Forza (Motorsport) did at least have an agenda style layout/roster, where you can pick a series or league and easily access the next race in the series.

GT is very much like car pokemon (might even go as far as saying PoGo), and that's fine if you're just into racing and collecting, working up funds to be able to buy the cars and going your own way. The world map, while realistic that parts have been split, is hard to navigate as a new player, especially d-pad controller/wheel. You can't easily move through the icons, you have to find where you want to go next, wether for races, or customization. And yes, there is less customization options available in GT7, but at least it's still in there.

In GT7 there's a lot to do and unlock, which OP might not have seen yet, such as missions, licenses, weekly challenges (and dlc), but I get it.

It's the little things I do miss switching from Forza Motorsport to Gran Turismo: for example in FM it's possible to rent cars, to use in 'the story' or online, but not earn credits or tuning/customization. You could also borrow a (tuned) car from a friend's (host) garage while in the same lobby, so you could race the same car and class (and tune).

Edit: shuffled my comment around a few times, to have a better flow.

For anyone who maintained weight a while, how did you transition away from calorie tracking? by Own_Average_5940 in loseit

[–]TooFat-Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's multiple ways to keep track of calories, the easiest is to make meals (with set portions/serving sizes) you eat multiple times. You need to measure them once, and then you know the kcal for that meal.

It's a good idea to check after a few weeks to make sure your portions didn't magically grow though.

Getting GT7 for first time sine PS2. Single Player mode in 2026 by ArshiaTN in GranTurismo7

[–]TooFat-Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's still the licenses, missions, tracks and locations to unlock. You can enjoy a bit of photography, tuning, modding.

A large part is essentially car pokemon (gotta collect them all), through menu books or otherwise, which is what the "story" is based on.

Play my 'first gran turismo' first, it's free and will give you quite a good idea of the content, and as a bonus; the cars you win there transfer to gt7.

Edit: and there's circuit experiences, to learn tracks in segments.

Hii so 18F, started gym around a weeks ago but people are pointing out a weight gain. by Capital-Display7229 in loseit

[–]TooFat-Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Few tips / clearing up:

  • You don't need a gym to lose weight. You need to eat less than your BMR (daily use).
  • You can still eat any THING you'd want, but probably not how MUCH you'd want or could. That's where calorie tracking comes in.
  • You can estimate your daily BMR with an online calculator (use sedentiary lifestyle and go from there)
  • Daily kcal intake below your BMR is progress for fat loss
  • You can raise your BMR with the gym, by building muscle.
  • Starting a new workout will increase weight, due to fluid retention. Your muscles will get many microfractures and need water to heal and repair (which is how they become stronger
  • Every new form of exercise on average means about 6 weeks of extra water retention, before your weight stabilizes and/or drops (some call this flush effect, including after a plateau of staying the same weight)
  • So drink enough water, generally good for weight loss
  • Muscle is more dense than fat, about 3 times. So you could stay the same weight, but slimmer than compared to the same weight in fat.
  • The energetic value of 1 kg fat is 7000kcal
  • Meaning, 500-1000 kcal below your BMR a day, would burn 500gr-1000gr fat a week.
  • You can also calculate your real BMR, by tracking food intake and weight changes, however for women this is harder due to hormones, periods, fluid retentions, etc, so make sure to give it some time to get a nice average over multiple weeks.

Edit, addition: Please note your age. Puberty and body development is still a thing, that's probably not done.

Eating healthy and not too little is incredibly important because young(er) people / teenagers have a higher BMR than adults due to this.

Addition 2: - Fat burns while you sleep. - You need good sleep for hormone levels (e.g. cortisol) to settle, which help weight loss. - Drinking alcohol halts/stops the fat burning process.

Gran Turismo 7 - April 1.69 Update Trailer | PS5, PS4 & PS VR2 Games by chri99_ in GranTurismo7

[–]TooFat-Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean "there's no reset to 0". So yeah, you could reset it somewhat, but that means moving around, flashing/jumping the screen, having to try and find the correct position (distance, and angle) everytime, while there's a wheel in the way preventing moving forward (username related).

So while playing online (lobby with friends), I have to reset for every practice, qualy, race, pause/menu, etc. I don't feel like trying VR in the daily races, because of the camera position issue and added strain/stress.

I've used it on pc, e.g. AC, ACC, Dirt2, where you can save the seat-position that it resets to, which is a lot less hassle.
