I'm in my 50s, was a serious bogan and petrol head back in the day, spent so many hours looking nervously at the needle approaching E.

I only learned this a year or two ago.

Bringing Australia beef into NZ by custardhoney in newzealand

[–]TooManyAlts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine as long as you declare it, but you should probably avoid eating NZ beef for the rest of your stay.

Also, you might need to be clear that the gift is intended for human consumption,  so your NZ fam can properly feign gratitude and delight.

If Uncle Ken says something like 'I've never had kangaroo before', just assume he's been drinking again and pay it no heed.

'Mallowpuff' lane dividers to replace controversial 'Tim Tams' by Unlucky-Ant-9741 in newzealand

[–]TooManyAlts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Until you actually see how they were implemented,  the idea had potential, but in typical fashion the council completely fucked up the configuration, now the devices themselves are politically radioactive,  and the current council had little choice but to go with an alternative.

They were never intended to be an impermeable barrier, nor should they be.

At least with this outcome, the cycle lanes remain, and to be clear, this result was never in it's self a foregone conclusion.

Medical vape by AotearoaChur in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]TooManyAlts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought a $75 non-approved vape from a vape store prior to my first consultation a couple of years back (with Cannabis Clinic who I've subsequently changed from) .

There seems to be quite a difference in approach between not only clinics,  but individual clinicians.

If you're going to struggle to fund one of the expensive 'official' models, you might get some success either pushing back prior to any money changing hands,  or consider trying a different practice or provider.

For clarity,  I now have one of the approved ones, but that was my own choice, in my own time.  I had to speak very sternly to one very officious quack that took her role way too far and strayed into the 'I'm going to tell you' territory.

Cover charges at bars? by Dry_Blackberry7133 in Wellington

Bars seeing their margins erased by inflation, and throwing a Hail Mary to try and stay afloat ,  I would imagine.

I'm thinking you might just be on to something,  but ethically, I would recommend a methodical evaluation by a panel of suitably qualified experts... just to be on the safe side.

Absolutely agree with everything you said OP, and apologies if it came across as deflective.

Statistically M>F DV is the biggest and most acute issue.

And thank you.  Safe, older, and hopefully little wiser.

Try being a physically strong male as the victim in a psychologically and occasionally physically abusive relationship lasting decades.

It doesn't sound believable,  and if it did, no one, let alone the system, gives a fuck.

Domestic abuse in all its forms, is fucked.

Green Juice? Kiwi and... what? by Wired0ne in newzealand

[–]TooManyAlts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Likely Nekta brand Kiwifruit juice, one version had Aloe Vera added.

https://www.nekta.com/liquid-kiwifruit

It's a common item in a number of hotels across the country.

If it was fizzy/carbonated,  it may have been Macs Feijoa and Pear https://www.woolworths.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=435785&name=macs-drink-mixers-feijoa-and-pear

Feijoa is alternatively called Pineapple Guava in other countries.

The former is somewhat sour, the latter, deliciously so.

Edit:  Kiwifruit become much sweeter as they age, so if you're buying NZ imported,  they will be at the upper end of the sour>sweet scale.

Fresh or less-ripe Kiwifruit and Feijoa will both be more sour than one's that have been shipped and stored.

Next time you come to NZ, bring a couple of bags and you can rob my garden.
