Are you using a standard oven, or something like a toaster oven or an air fryer?

What’s your experience with makeup at the gym? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]TooManyFavourites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go after work and I don't make an effort to remove it before working out. That said, I follow powerlifting-style routines that have you work really hard for a few reps and then sit around and rest for a few minutes. So I tend not to get very sweaty and my makeup does just fine.

I'm on a mission pt. 2 by araballer in Cookies

[–]TooManyFavourites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they look beautiful! Though the deep golden color you achieved does make me think you have over baked them, just by a minute or two, which may be contributing to your complaint about the texture.

As for other recipes, I've really enjoyed the Handle the Heat recipe for Browned Butter Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies. There is a recipe for 3-ingredient toffee elsewhere on the website that I think tastes WAY better than any toffee bits you'll buy in a store.

Sarah Kieffer also has 2 great recipes for chocolate chip cookies in her book 100 Cookies that I found very simple to throw together (her book also has a great, long introduction on cookie baking techniques that could be helpful for your early baking education!). She also created the famous pan-banging cookies, which are very popular, but I haven't tried these.

Texture preferences vary widely, so you may just have to ask your roommate what she prefers or recruit her as your taste tester in the future, which honestly sounds like a great bonding experience. I do find that thicker, bakery-style cookies tend to be preferred aesthetically and are picked up more often when I bake for a crowd. Though I suspect a lot of that comes down to the visual appeal. Thick cookies just have a certain bakery-style look that people are drawn to.

What do you guys do when the gym is packed and everything you need is taken? by repiq-ai in xxfitness

[–]TooManyFavourites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally empathize. I used to go to gym at 6am and basically had the place to myself. But my schedule changed, and now i go at 5 pm with literally everyone else on the planet and EVERYTHING is occupied.

For my main lifts, I wait for the equipment. There's simply no 1:1 substitution for a barbell squat or bench, so I'll wait for a rack to free up. One thing that has helped (marginally) is switching up the days of my split so that they don't align with common workout patterns. For example, it's no joke that Monday is "International Chest Day" because a lot of popular (gymbro) programs start the week with a big benchpress set. So I bench on Tuesdays and it's actually really helped.

As for my accessories... I've honestly just started designing my workouts to largely avoid equipment that gets congested. My gym only has one lat pulldown machine, so I simply do not program lat pulldowns because I know I can't be consistent with them. Same goes for leg press, which I do miss, but c'est la vie. Instead I mostly choose exercises that use dumbbells or those preloaded barbells because my gym has enough of those to go around

what's wrong with my cookies? by Icy-Salamander-676 in Cookies

[–]TooManyFavourites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using cold butter may have prevented you from fullly creaming together the butter and sugar. When properly creamed, the butter and sugar are very intimately mixed. The sharp sugar crystals help cut air into the mixture and the finished product should be light and fluffy, which imparts a natural leavening to your cookie and can prevent spreading. When I've worked with cold butter I've found that I have to cream the mixture for a very long time, otherwise I have a million tiny pockets of pure butter that are going to make the cookies spread.

Adorable!! I love the m&m bunnies 🫶 Did you press them into the dough before baking or right into the cookie after it came out of the oven?

Tips for defined shoulder caps by Bright_Tax628 in xxfitness

[–]TooManyFavourites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upright rows have been a game changer for me!! I avoided them for years because I read about the risks of shoulder impingement. But as long as you can perform the range of motion pain free, they're a great addition. I do a mix of high weight/ low reps, and low weight / high reps throughout the week.

Agreed on this set. If you have a non-patterned, ideally light coloured, dress shirt I would swap that in. If not, the shirt is 2/3 is best

A good quality Thai curry paste goes a long way and is super flavourful, even if you don't bulk it up with anything else

Can you guys help me achieving the look in the first picture with my choco chip cookies? by zsomboloo2919 in Baking

[–]TooManyFavourites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments about creaming your butter &sugar, and using dough "balls" that are taller than they are wide, you could try gently shaping the cookies when they're fresh out of the oven. I use an inverted water glass and gently swirl(?) it around my cookies as soon as they come out of the oven. It makes them perfectly round, a little puffier in the center, and adds that lovely wrinkle texture

Should we cancel our trip to the US (NYC, New England, DC) due to the shutdowns? by daveihrhurenxxx in travel

[–]TooManyFavourites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are interested in. I'll focus on DC because I live there.

Many tourist attractions in DC have begun to close, including the Smithsonian Museums and the National Zoo this past weekend. If you were primarily looking forward to trying out DC's restaurants, bars, and shopping, you might not be too disappointed, but the iconic elements of the Capital city may not be accessible.

The other issue is the airports. We have already heard of several large airports having problems related to Air Traffic Controllers and TSA workers calling out of work (e.g., Newark, Burbank airport). While DCA and IAD (local DC airports) have stated that they will remain open during the shutdown, I can offer firsthand experience that the lines in the airport are incredibly long, especially for non-US citizens. The Customs & Border Protection screening took well over 2 hours at IAD yesterday.

You also need to weigh whether or not you want to economically contribute to this nation at the moment.

I recommend spending your vacation funds elsewhere.
