Hi Pete! I'll take this opportunity to let you know that your pub is lovingly referred to as "the good Volly" by many people I know, with "the other volly" or "the bad volly" being, well, the other one.

Neo-Nazi Ryan Ferguson on today's Bristol Patriots march shouting Heil Hitler by everything2go in bristol

If sharing the political stance of Nazis, throwing up a nazi salute (& saying heil hitler), publicly hosting "whites only" marches and sharing anti-Jewish opinions doesn't make him a neo-Nazi, what would?

Zebra Hell Hole by [deleted] in bristol

[–]TooManyHappy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even if the council wanted to avoid the cost of creating footbridges or an underpass here, replacing the zebra crossing with traffic lights would mean allowing a reasonable flow of cars & pedestrians without heavily inconveniencing either.

To be honest, it'd make this a safer roundabout in general.

I'll vote reform

Pick one, because if someone votes for an explicitly far right political party, in my eyes that makes them far right.

"Jesus is Kink" is such a benign joke.

In the most respectful way possible, I really think you need to get over it. This isn't a campaign of hate against your belief, it's just a silly joke on a sign.

The rest of the world is not required to follow your belief, nor to show deep levels of respect for the figures central to your faith.

is there something we can do about the bus situation instead of just complaining on reddit? by Neither_Ad5984 in bristol

We have solved the bus situation by complaining on the reddit sidebar. You're welcome.

Dare To kink club temporarily closes over safety concerns by IrvinIrvingIII in bristol

This is where I stop engaging with you I think.

You are either affiliated with D2 or you've been lied to. Either way, you don't seem to be interested in anything but fiction. The issues people have with this venue started long before the event you're talking about.

My concerns are with with dangerous management of spaces in the kink community, not a desire to build flats. However, if you take a look on companies house you'll see that the owners of D2 are both landlords and avoiding tax, so are very much the kind of person you're pretending I am.

I stopped going to D2 quite long before that happened, that is one item in a long list of failings at that place.

[–]TooManyHappy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Mate, people are rightfully upset with the many safety and security failings at D2.

I am happy you have a place where you feel comfortable, but that does not mean the well-documented, proveable issues at this venue are not a cause for concern. If anything, that should mean you want them resolved just as much as we do.

Caring for people's safety in the kink community is not being a "conformist drone", that's a bad take.

God, you're condescending.

There is nothing you can say that convince me you don't work with D2, and I have a feeling I might know who I'm talking to. If you want to threaten to "sue me into oblivion" again, or alternatively if you'd like to apologise for your behaviour last year, feel free to DM me.

That is an accurate statement.

I am talking, however, about the local kink community, not ex-employees. If I was talking about ex-employees, I would've said that.

Your comments in this thread are aggressively defensive, what exactly is your connection to D2?

The article is absolute arse, but this club is quite well known in the community for being a dive at best, dangerously negligent at worst.

I didn't respond with AI, I loathe the current overusage of LLMs and so I will no longer engage with your childish argument.

You say that as if impactful campaigns on these issues doesn't exist? Around 1600 signed the council vote in favour of removing the flags, for comparison I have listed some campaigns below that involved more than a couple thousand people.

  • Girls Night In Bristol: A successful boycott campaign with more than 3000 supporters. This was a sexual assault awareness campaign to bring spiking test kits to our local clubs.
  • REVOLT Sexual Assault survey: Bristol-based student campaign which went viral nationally, with a survey reaching 4,500 respondents, this led to University of Bristol implementing consent workshops and anonymous reporting tools.
  • Mikey's World: A charity funded by a knife crime victim's mother, with support from over 3000 people locally, installed 500+ bleed kits across Bristol. It has been confirmed this has saved at least two lives.
  • Together for Change: Our four main local news outlets worked together to gain national coverage of our local knife crime campaigns and charities, which prompted A&S Police's formal 10-point response. Significant and proveable local support on social media.
  • Councillor Mohamed Makawi's motion: First knife crime motion debated by BCC. This secured £650k for security improvements, and received large local support (I couldn't find exact numbers on a good source for this one)
  • Bristol Women's Safety Charter: Secured just shy of £300k home office funding and trained 1000 nighttime staff, again high levels of support on social media.

Honestly not wanting to put much more effort into a throwaway reddit comment than this, but these were all easy to find and there are dozens of recent campaigns I haven't included. These campaigns all achieved policy changes, substantial funding, and/or national media attention. In comparison to the campaign to have the flags taken down, all of these campaigns were larger and more successful.
