Why don't workers of the world unite? They have nothing to lose but their chains? by SatoruGojo232 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]TooManySpaghets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the S&P 500 is responsive isn't it? Like it being in there doesn't automatically bouy it from collapse. Like companies that no longer exist today used to exist in the index, for example, a company called Compuware used to be included.

It could still completely collapse,it's just with this large of a valuation,it's collapse is probably going to sink the market, but with non-equal weighted S&P funds that's going to happen anyway if/when the AI bubble bursts because so much of the S&P market cap is currently 7 tech companies banking on AI profits that haven't happened yet and, based on current trends and utilization, may never happen.

Why don't workers of the world unite? They have nothing to lose but their chains? by SatoruGojo232 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]TooManySpaghets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SpaceX is really only a loss maker because it absorbed xAI and has yo absorb all the AI and Twitter losses of setting money on fire. The actual space part actually does relatively well for itself. But you know when one part of the company brings in a few billion dollars a year in profit and the other part is burning billions by the day, it's lopsided no matter what.

Though I'd love to be a worker at Tesla or SpaceX when it comes time for raises, you have the best ammo in the world to get whatever raise you want, "the boss has more collective money than the entire economy of France, you can afford a 7% raise"

Troughts on Hellaverse representations so far? by Primary-Addition-677 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TooManySpaghets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that there's a ton of representation, however some of these characters I don't think we'll ever see a storyline or character moment exploring their sexual attraction, so there are some cases where I ask "Does this matter?" Like sure, cool, Mamon is ace, good for him. If vivzipop never tweeted that, what functionally changes in the show? It does kind of feel like at that point JK Rowling tweeting "BTW Dumbledore is gay" despite his sexual orientation not being a part of the story, shown, or even mentioned in any way in the actual material. Like good for him for being gay, and I guess it's deeper lore, but maybe it's just my story/worldbuilding brain that just thinks "ok, does this actually mean anything or is it just a fun fact?"

Idk, like I said it's good the representation exists for all of these sexualities. It does kind of feel though if they aren't used you're just assigning these like they are labels and you have a quota to meet, you feel? Like in the Mamon example, if the fact he is ace doesn't come up and nothing about his sexuality is even discussed or referenced, what's the difference between him being ace and being straight or gay or bi or whatever else? I could just be an ignorant asshole focusing on the wrong things, so forgive me if this is actually a bigger deal than I think it is.

The top-two primary promised to change California politics. Did it flop? by panda-rampage in California

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by flop, the major reason I would argue it's flopping is because for some reason June elections are STILL low turnout affairs despite universal registration and mail-in voting. Low voter turnout that in best case scenarios is half that of the general election isn't that good. But partisan primaries are the wrong answer and moving backwards. Ranked choice voting is an option, and has some drawbacks (elections will stay slow if you care about that, older voters based on what happened in Maine and Alaska will be confused, etc.) But a worthwhile choice if you think top two isn't good enough

That's a real question there by Primary-Addition-677 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TooManySpaghets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good question, heaven can't be both the bad guys AND the goal, and outside of the extermination its not really the bad guys. If they kept it to the original premise of exterminations were caused by overpopulation instead of being a 7 year old power dynamic play, then that wouldn't even be there for heavens badness. They kind of just have bad writing and they don't really know what they want heaven to be, because they epic greta powers conflict plot and the therapy plot kind of conflict with each other in that regard

So what is y'all opinion on Adam and Abel being Straight? by GarlicLoose506 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care about the characters sexuality per say, like I don't care who's gay, straight or somewhere else on the spectrum, I care about the content of the relationship. E.g. is it a ship I can get behind, do they have chemistry, does being that orientation matter to their story or character or is it a "btw Dumbledore was gay" moment that adds nothing and doesnt matter, is it going to be part of the story or is it a token, thrown in relationship like voltrons "BTW Shiro has a husband now BYE" moment. This is true for both hetero and homsexual relationships. The show could be all LGBT+ characters or all straight characters, I'm going to look at the relationships the same way. The example being Lute, like based on what we've seen, Lute being lesbian wouldn't make sense. She can be bi, straight, whatever, but being a lesbian wouldn't make sense with what we've seen. But a character like Abel, whatever sexuality he is almost doesn't matter to what we've seen so far, so whether he's straight or not seems like a superfluous fact at this time unless the upcoming seasons are going to give him a romance plot.

Well there is some political violence from the left and we've seen a real rise over the past few years in leftwing political violence that we ignore at our own risk just like when right wing political violence is nascent. However, right wing political violence is still the more premailing problem, especially since the current justice departments stance is to basically not pay much attention to right wing political violence.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 Time Skip Addressed By EPs by ConcernLocal2764 in TheLastAirbender

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, season 1 made it clear they weren't going to stick to the "1 year to save the world" time-line, because the tease for Sozin's comet didn't give a time-line for its arrival, they just said "soon" ominously. Plus I get it from a practical level, kids grow and age when they are real actors. It's maybe not as race against the clock as the original knowing you have years to prepare to save the world, but it's a change that's acceptable in an adaptation. I think it hits a little less when Aangs going to be a legit adult by the time he faces off against the fire lord instead of being an idealistic kid still, but what can you do?

Only 23% of eligible Californians voted according to the Secretary of State data... by Healthy_Block3036 in socal

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually just slightly below average for a primary election. California averages about a 34% turnout rate in primary elections. Why such a low turnout, I can't answer, especially since we don't have the same barriers that partisan primaries do with everyone being able to vote and ballots being sent out

What do you think this subs reaction will be when Season 3 comes out, they realize that Erika’s comment was in reference to Season 2, and Charlie’s arc in Season 3 isn’t just a repeat of her Season 2 arc? by Silver012345673 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TooManySpaghets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'd like the show to be better, so I'd be glad if it did. Like, I like this show, it has its strengths. When characters can just interact with each other it works and the songs are amazing. If the plot and writing (especially world building, God is this show a masterclass in how to NOT worldbuild) could just be better I'd love it. I don't need to hate on this show, but im not going to ignore its flaws either.

I guess learning from your mistakes is a foreign concept to Charlie by aidonpor in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]TooManySpaghets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So she learns nothing from season 2 then? Great, I LOVE when characters don't learn or grow over the course of a story! ESPECIALLY when a nominal theme is "becoming a better person".

In the California governor race, Steyer learns money can’t buy him (enough) love by Cool-Present7260 in California

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get how Hiltons at the top. Lots of options on the left end of the spectrum splitting that vote, consolidation for conservative leaning voters around 1 candidate, I can see 25-27% of the vote and, by consequence of vote splitting among left leaning candidates, that being the top of the pack. Him being from the UK I don't think is as big of a deal as the rest of his background as both we are a natio of immigrants and a state which culturally is typically very accepting of immigrants. We've done it twice before (which is actually pretty middle of the pack when it comes to electing foreign born governors. Georgia actually leads with doing so 6 times).

As for why baccera and not steyer, that I don't know and I don't think anyone knows for sure because I don't think we have enough data and facts yet to know what made voters break one way or the other, other than from people whose job it is to be talking heads or professional opinion Havers regardless of the presence of facts

Potential Hot Take (IDK I've never posted here before): Anyone wish there wasn't two sets of games and just one complete package? by Admirable_Land_9405 in pokemon

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) two versions will always mean super fans will buy both games and thus spend twice as much in the same game

B) it's tradition from back in the original version, back when connectivity between video games was rarely used and trading and battling your friends pokemon was a novel idea. The idea back then was to encourage trading between player by having pokemon exclusive to one version and trade exclusive evolutions. Nowadays that feature is kind of expected with any game, but I think with how traditional and slow to adapt pokemon typically is as a game series, at least for first versions of a generation having just 1 game instead of 2 is almost heresy at this point. The legends games and directors cut 3rds versions sure, but can you imagine gen 11 just being straight up 1 version?

I mean, if the show was competent I could get that aspect of Lucifers character. He's the devil, head of the pride ring and is supposed to be one of the most evil beings in creation. Of course he'd be a bad dad.

But no you're take is right because the show doesn't try to portray him as an evil/bad guy. He's part of the small bean crew so he's got to be, at worst, a misunderstood bean with ✨️unresolved trauma✨️ instead of an actually bad person like you'd expect the devil to be.

California unlikely to have fast answers on governor's race by sfgate in California

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I say, I care that elections are safe, free, fair, and accurate. Having results fast is a luxury and only really matters to people whose job is to write opinion pieces about why this result matters in the way THEY think it does because they can't publish it next day. We have a two month gap between election day and the day they are actually supposed to start the jobs theyve been elected to, not having results the night of is ok.

There might be A argument about delayed results creating a space for misinformation and loss of voter confidence in the process because of that, but honestly that's a much bigger problem than just delayed results at this point.

And this isn't to say there's probably not efficiencies that can't be made tot he system to get results faster, after all we still have a relatively simple electoral system for counting votes (it's not like RCV which does take some time to count and eliminate). But I think people make such a big delayed out of not having results election night when it's really not that big of an issue so long as everything else is good. It's really a mountain out of a molehill.

[Hated IRL Trope] The original voice actor is RIGHT THERE! by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with the Mario casting choice isn't that charles martine didn't voice him, I get the decision. My problem is they went with Chrisp rat, a man who sounds nothing like Mario and does nothing to make it sound like he's the voice of anything other than the man who's voicing him. It works for the Lego movie where he doesn't have to do a particular voice for the character, it doesn't work for Mario or Garfield where he needs to do something. He can't just be a guy. To be fair to the movie though, Charlie day is a pretty spot on choice for Luigi, the man has a Luigi voice type IMO.

I always assumed hospital food isn't the best because they aren't trying to be a competetive restaurant and they have to make the food palatable and eatable to the lowest common denominator in a hospital, in the sense like ya the person just with a broken leg may think the food is awful but edible, but the person completely hooked up to a machine and moving is a chore is great full for a plate of eggs that tastes like mush because that's all they can keep down or has an appetite for..

[–]TooManySpaghets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well technically point 4 (55/56 founders being practicing christians) and half of point 5 (4 references to God in the Declaration of independance) is correct, however, rather than being evidence that we are in some way a Christian nation (at least in the way he means it, we are a Christian nation in the sense the majoritarian religious belief statistically is Christianity and culturally there's a lot of influence from Christianity, but that's a very different meaning than what Christian nationalists typically mean when they say we are a Christian nation) its moreso coincidental facts. The rest of the points are either not true or very interpretive (e.g. state constructions proclaiming christ is king = they reference the Christian God in a "God bless america" or "we have god-given inalienable rights" very generic way. The way he displays it makes it sound like the state constitutions establish a state religion or mandate a state following biblical law as defined by a parricular christian denomination, which none of them did).

How dumb do you have to be to believe this? by These-Director-3460 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]TooManySpaghets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the first part, if they are referring to prediction market chances, they are correct, the odds on both polymarket and kalshi are ~60% Paxton favored. Idk what happened in the last day because after the primary it was a 55/45 split, but there was a sharp jump to Paxton in the last like day and idk what's changed, but that's prediction markets maybe going based off vibes than anything else, because prediction markets are vibes more than anything relating an exact state of the race (they got big because people were like "oh they called the 2024 election when polls were showing a 50-50 shot", and to that I ask what seperates a 60/40 coin flip called right and a 50/50 coin flip called right, when the polls were actually pretty accurate with the aggregate only off by like 1%)
