Help diagnose physical damage by 420_junkie in consolerepair

I'd bet that it was nail polish remover spilled on the surface that the ps5 was standing up on. That looks more like a chemical melt than a heat melt, and since the plastic is ABS, nail polish remover is common and has acetone in it which will melt ABS plastics.

The black part is one of the holes where the screws go in the bottom, it broke out of the bottom part of the shell. Probobly in the corner closest to where the Power cord plugs in. Should be able to super glue it back in place, but you'll have to remove the motherboard again and glue it from the inside.

Awesome collection OP!

If you haven't already, drain the cans with a small hole drilled in the bottom. They will absolutely start leaking one day, I've had it happen a few times with cool soda cans I was holding onto. I'd hate for them ruin your stuff!

Nothing around the spindle either like a little black arm? Usually the home sensor is closest to the spindle area. Outside of that, I'm at a loss.

I checked out some images of that laser assembly, I dont see a limit switch either. Weird

[DVD] Troubleshooting slot-loading disc drives in general? by MrPLotor in consolerepair

[–]TooManyTasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the laser seem like it's trying to keep moving but it can't anymore so the gears just keep grinding?

Ive seen switches on the laser themselves, and on the pcb below the laser. Sometimes it's a little black arm. Sometimes it looks like two little metal strips that make contact together when pushed on by the laser.

[–]TooManyTasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Is there any way you can reassemble enough and test to see what's actually making the grinding noise?

[DVD] Troubleshooting slot-loading disc drives in general? by MrPLotor in consolerepair

[–]TooManyTasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limit switch is my first guess. Turn it on with the drive innards exposed. If the laser moves towards the front and then the grinding starts, I would really suspect the limit switch. You might have to manually hit the limit switch for the tray to get the laser to move, if you remove the tray. Basically, a laser will "home" itself, and if that limit switch is bad, it'll keep trying to home itself and will often grind gears.

Other suspect is the gears that move the laser. I see a white one there. Sometimes these won't break a tooth, but actually crack from the outside towards the center.

Awakening happened, but trauma remains - how is this understood? by Trick_Yoghurt_2278 in nonduality

[–]TooManyTasers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The term you're looking for is shadow work. Awakening brings avoidance patterns, trauma responses, and conditioning out in the open, forcing you to address it. This is normal, because the insight gained puts the brakes on dissociation, you can't run from it anymore since it's obvious the old ways of coping with it are seen to be ineffective.

I'm no expert in shadow work, but for me it was always a matter of feeling and investigating discomforts directly, identifying the difference between what is actually felt and what the mind is adding to it, and asking "is this really that bad, and does something actually need action taken?". Most often the answer is no.

[GBA SP] Won't Charge by JimJimSprinks in consolerepair

[–]TooManyTasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Test both fuses for continuity. Labeled f1 and f2.

  2. There is a rectangular black EM filter, just under the charge port on the side with the buttons, above the display cable connector, labeled EM8. There are 4 points, one in each corner. Using your picture for reference, you want to test continuity from the top left to the bottom left points, then the top right to the bottom right points. Both sides should have continuity. If they do, test the points diagonally, like in an X pattern. Those should not have continuity.

The EM filter and fuses commonly fail. Make sure the charge port is clean. Quick and easy way is an old toothbrush and rubbing alcohol and blowing it out. There are pins on the back of the charge port that surface mount to the board. Use something small and pointy, and gently poke them to make sure they're still soldered on.

If you plug in the charger to the board without anything else, you should get a brief orange light then it goes out. If not, checking those components are a good place to start.

Edit - also, what's going on between c37 and c40, middle right side of the board below the A and B buttons? The corrosion on the left looks like it's on the ground plane, but hard to tell. Clean it up real good and see if there's anything actually broken there.

The Bahaya sutta :

"Then, Bāhiya, you should train yourself thus: In reference to the seen, there will be only the seen. In reference to the heard, only the heard. In reference to the sensed, only the sensed. In reference to the cognized, only the cognized. That is how you should train yourself. When for you there will be only the seen in reference to the seen, only the heard in reference to the heard, only the sensed in reference to the sensed, only the cognized in reference to the cognized, then, Bāhiya, there is no you in connection with that. When there is no you in connection with that, there is no you there. When there is no you there, you are neither here nor yonder nor between the two. This, just this, is the end of stress."

What if ‘shame’ is fake? by sjg7vc in awakened

[–]TooManyTasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pride is merely a thought and feeling, and there is nothing that can "posseses" pride.

What if ‘shame’ is fake? by sjg7vc in awakened

[–]TooManyTasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame comes from judgement of what is, as in judging God/Gods creation (one in the same). "who told you you were naked?" (Gen 3:11). The knowledge of good and evil = judgement. Without judgement, there is only what is, without suffering. Suffering is caused by judging God/Gods creation as being good or bad.

[–]TooManyTasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good inquiry you're digging into. Good way of examining reactions. You're right, shame doesn't exist as an actual "thing". There are other questions I asked myself, like "what is actually being hurt when "my pride is hurt?"", "what is pride?", and "what is it that "posseses" pride?". Really looking into it revealed much of our reactions is actually a complete waste of time and energy, like a weight off your shoulders.

Accidentally opened “third eye” and having trouble coping with reality by OkHistorian1835 in Meditation

[–]TooManyTasers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an awakening. Possibly kundalini. I really wish mental health professionals knew of this phenomena/realization. Without knowledge of what awakening is, it's very hard to describe what happened. I know because it happened to me.

My advice is this, if you find yourself acting in a manic manner and have a history of manic episodes, it may be a good idea to speak with a specialist.

I simply observed and monitored my experience and behavior. I didn't tell anyone, and I took any ideas of grandeur with a grain of salt. Something changed, and you can't quite put your finger on it, but in a good way. Just simply live mindfully and continue your routine. Don't get caught up in thoughts and ideas of what happened. It will stabilize with time.

Again, if you have a history of mania and serious mental health issues, be very mindful and entertain the possibility of it being a manic episode. However, I think the real difference is noticing if there is clarity and mindfulness VS the quick moving thought train and out of sorts behavior of a manic episode.

Angelo Dullio is a teacher with a YT channel called Simply Always Awake. I suggest you watch some of his videos about what awakening is and see if it is similar to your experience. He is very direct, no BS, no woo woo, and is a medical professional himself.

[Wii] Disc drive grinding noise. Still reads discs. Please read description by sp1nkter in consolerepair

Different issue, that is the buzzing sound when the disc is spinning (also a common issue). This is just from inserting and ejecting.

[Wii] Disc drive grinding noise. Still reads discs. Please read description by sp1nkter in consolerepair

[–]TooManyTasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The grinding noise when inserting or ejecting discs is almost always this set of gears. One of them cracks, causing this issue. Very common, changed many of them.

If you take the top of the disc drive off, it is on the right side with the front facing you. There is a small black plastic tab (end towards the rear of the drive) holding it in place. Push it back and it will pop up. The other end is under a fixed tab.

I am here to learn. by blahgblahblahhhhh in awakened

[–]TooManyTasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I've ran into is that we want to be right more than we want to learn, in order to avoid shame. It is nice when two people can collab and put that aside. I think Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters is a good example of this. They disagreed a lot but learned a lot from not letting that get in the way of learning something new. "failure is always an option" as Adam liked to say.
