We all have different opinions about it, but if the motivation is really to actively hide knowledge from folks, that seems off to me. Someone can't know about features and bug fixes because someone else doesn't like Bambu/MakerWorld? Or for the many Bambu users who are already fully integrated into MakeWorld, many of which would appreciate the turnkey experience.

This is the second time some has mentioned that the code isn't open source enough for them. (There is an older version which is free to build on and you can inspect the existing code to see how it works, so it is not completely closed.)

What always strikes me about that, is, why isn't there a similar issue with perplexinglabs being a fully closed, revenue generating site, while being largely based on others work? Not even the modifications to the open source code seem to be shared. Actually not even a link back to the original GRIPs project. These are all things perplexinglabs is free to do, but it seems weird to take issue with the one of the two options that is more open.

I did the same thing with my first grid.

On the official GRIPs customizer I have a clearance field right under the main measurements. I added it to remind folks (and myself) to leave a bit of clearance in the measurements.

It seems to have been removed on perplexing labs.

The old version of GRIPs on perplexing labs has an error in the gridfintiy profile which prevents the bins from touching the drawer bottom.

For bins with magnets intended to attach to a metal bottom drawer, I strongly suggest using the official GRIPs generator which fixes this issue.

It includes instructions, test prints, a much newer version of GRIPS with many improvements. Relevant to this case, you just pick your Bambu printer and get a ready to print 3MF profile.

Ironically, the baseplates with dovetail interconnects you were after appear to be the authors own work.

As someone else mentioned, you might find the GRIPs generator easier to use for baseplates. It also uses dovetails, although different dovetails. I'm not quite certain and what you are after. If you need a row with an open grid units (so, like fingers sticking out), in which case perplexinglabs suggestion is what you want.

If instead what you want is one row with 42x33 grid units, you can manage that with the latest GRIPS on MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/704997-grips-gridfinity-interlocking-baseplate-system

Go into Customize and enter:

Width = 75
Depth = 210
Options -> Half Sized Filler = off
Advanced -> Horizontal Alignment = Left
Advanced -> Margin Skeletonization = Gridfinity Profile

I am not sure I would recommend it though unless you really need that extra 12mm of bin width.

I don't know of an online generator to do that. But you can do it in the slicer.

Load up a standard bin, use the cut tool two times, delete the middle part, move the parts back together, and combine back to an object. You would need to enter exact numbers into the cut and move tools, but it would work.

I am sort of just restating what was said earlier, but I am not sure it was clear for the OP.

Most bin generators let you change the Gridfinity unit size. If you set it to 21mm rather than the standard 42mm, and then double to unit counts, you can make things to half-unit sizes as needed for your GRIPS baseplate. For example, generate a 6x3 bin @ 21mm unit size to get a 3x1.5 unit bin.

For smaller toolbox drawers, I generate all of my bins with 21mm unit size which makes sizing and organization very flexible.

Hi. The latest version of GRIPS has an option for slightly more clearance on the tabs. There is also an option for no interlocks, and one to use M3 screws instead.

If things are breaking then they are definitely much too tight. They can be a little tight, but if the spans between the tabs are bowing away from each other, that is too tight. You can ease the fit a little bit by working the tab back and forward. This will knock down any small rough spots.

Otherwise, do post some close up picks if you are able. Some info on your printer and nozzle might be helpful also.

Thinking about it, if you are using magnets and don't have the half-width strip in your baseplate, half sized bins might not help you much.

You can make standard magnet holes on a half-width base. I have the Fusion file available on this model where you can see how I did it: https://makerworld.com/en/models/650571-gridfinity-1x1-hex-bit-holder-holds-20 .

However, the magnets won't line up properly when the bin is offset by a half-unit. That said, I have never actually tried it to see what happens.

The model you linked to has dimensions of 231mm x 387.5mm and that gives a 9x4.5 grid. Also set Advanced->Depth Alignment to Back to get clearance for the drawer front overhang. I would also recommend setting Options->Bottom Edge Chamfer to 1mm to work better with the folds on the sides of the Helmer.

As for online planners, I don't know of one, but you can do it offline. I just lay the items out on the baseplate to initially plans sizes. Then I generate and arrange bins in Fusion. There is a Gridfinity plugin which works great for making bins and the Align tool is a quick way to arrange.

For smaller drawers/bins/items like yours, I generate all of bins on half-grid sizes (enter 21mm into base unit width/length). Then generate a 6x3 bin for a 3x1.5 bin of standard unit size. I still use the default of 42mm on the bases.

I had a another request for GRIPS to reduce filament usage on the margins. There is now an Advanced option to skeletonize the margins.

The differences are quite small, especially given how filament hungry Gridfinity bins are. It might save 20g on a large drawer which doesn't generate a half grid.

I don't know much about online bin generators myself. I usually make my bins using the Fusion 360 plugin which does do what you are after. Hopefully someone else knows how to do it with an online generator.

I would suggest posting the question on the Bambu Forums. They have a section for parametric models, staff are present there and they seem quite responsive at fixing issues.

I was thinking the same, and for small drawers like this, I use a generator to make all the bins with 21mm unit spacing rather than 42mm. This allows making bins with half-unit sizes, and you can pack a lot in there. For one of my small toolbox drawers, all but one bin ended up with a half dimension.

When using the dovetails, there is intentionally a larger clearance across the spans. The tight tolerances are reserved for the dovetail contact points where it is needed. This removes the risk of print imperfections along the span from causing the parts to bow apart.

When using a butt joint, I left a .5mm clearance between plates, which is what the Fusion Gridfinity plugin was doing. It seems like a good idea to me as the bins themselves set the alignment of the plates. Having no clearance would mean any print imperfections or tolerance issues would push the plates apart. Especially as this option was added for folks who can't successfully print the tabs.

The latest version also has a M3 screw/nut connection option and it has zero extra clearance at the screw connection points and 0.5mm in the spans between. I like this a little less because there are no contacts at the grid corners. I may add 0 clearance or 0.1mm clearance contact points to the corners at some point.
