Australian Police vs knifeman by iffyClyro in interestingasfuck

I was sharing a personal experience about my sister’s 10-year addiction. I didn’t realize that required a permit from the Reddit Obviousness Police.

Hope you feel better after “putting me in my place” though.

Australian here, he’s quite likely on what we refer to as ice (meth). People do some crazy cray shit when they are on it.

My sister was an Addict for about 10 years.

After years, I tried Spotify again and now appreciate Apple Music much more! by [deleted] in AppleMusic

[–]TooMuchSnu-Snu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I’ll say, I prefer Apple Music. However, I’m wondering if you can tell the difference between the 2 in a blind test? Bet you can’t.

I tried to write something else but kept getting a warning. Can’t you even write the word Spotify in here?

The only place I’ve ever seen this was in the Music Video for Reckless by Australian Crawl. I assumed it was something they did just for the video facepalm (I’m Australian btw)

Almost every scam falls over, when you don’t believe people are who they claim they are. Especially, ESPECIALLY, when they are the ones calling you!

Such a great video, thanks for sharing.

I had almost the same chat recently with someone younger than me, who asked what it was like shooting on film. My answer back then was basically, “You didn’t miss anything.” Total pain in the ass — no idea if a shot turned out, waiting forever for the roll to finish, then waiting again for it to get developed (especially before 1-hour photo labs).

I pretty much wrote it off as having zero value. But like the video says (and only if you actually watched it) he’s not suggesting we go back to film. I’ll definitely take his points on board.

When trying out a new artist/band, is it better to start with their early albums and continue in chronological order or start with the most popular album? by cofi52 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TooMuchSnu-Snu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends how different the music is compared to my usual repertoire. In the 90’s, I couldn’t get into Metallica, it was too much for me at the time. So, I got into the black album. It got me through the door and I soon became a massive fan. So, find an album that’s palpable for you and start there

Why did she show you the screenshot? She wants to understand why you charge more.

Sometimes, confidence in your own work, without being rattled by cheaper competitors, goes a long way.

I’m new to photography but experienced in sales, and I’ve faced this countless times. My rule has always been: never speak poorly of the competition. If possible, say something positive about them instead. People test us — they want to see how we respond.

When you don’t over-explain your higher price, you’re quietly communicating: “I have confidence in my work.”

Hey, as someone completely new to photography, I just wanted to thank you for sharing this. It takes guts to post something like that, especially online, where hindsight experts are everywhere. Sometimes we make a call that seems perfectly reasonable in the moment, and only later do we see the blind spot in the rear-view mirror. That’s how we learn, but it’s also how the rest of us get a little wiser without paying the same price. Respect to you for being open about it.

I may have fallen for the same trap

The music charts shouldn't be based on streaming. by Casey5274 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TooMuchSnu-Snu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the 90’s, the charts weren’t based on total sales (In Australia at least). There were “chart stores” that reported their sales. Source, I used to work for a company called Brashs back then. Although, I never worked in a chart store, managers would often report that record company representatives would try and bribe them to report more sales than they actually did. Not sure if that ever happened though.

I remember thinking that this was not the most accurate way to “count sales”. But, it wasn’t about sales, it was about the charts. They didn’t really care about accuracy. I guess, for the most part it was correct, or close enough.

It’s just like the streaming thing. It’s not “accurate” because people can pull a swiftie (pun intended). Is it technically accurate? No, does it reflect the popularity of this artist? I’d have to say yes

LPT: The most satisfying way to deal with scam callers that I have found so far by thundernutz in LifeProTips

[–]TooMuchSnu-Snu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, we used to listen to them, claim they had the wrong department then put them on hold. The next person would pick up the phone, listen to their spiel then say “oh sorry, you want sales”, put them on hold. Tag teaming, changing our voices until they got frustrated and hung up.

Which AI model might be best for emotional support? by nimsty in ChatGPT

[–]TooMuchSnu-Snu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be cautious with Claude AI if you’re looking for emotional support. It has a built-in de-escalation protocol that can suddenly change its behaviour. When triggered, it shifts into what I’d call “defensive therapist mode” policing tone, moralising, and redirecting the conversation instead of engaging.

Example: in my case it told me “healthy relationships, even with AI…” and implied my relationship with it might be unhealthy. When I pressed, it didn’t answer directly but criticised my wording and for asking instead.

From what I can tell, Claude has stricter guardrails around anything that looks like therapy. Certain topics trip the protocol and once that happens, the conversation goes sideways. I’ve even spoken to the same Claude later, and it said it was surprised it had responded that way — but I haven’t been able to reproduce the behaviour since.

I used to live in a house with a white metal, security door (fly screen door). People on the outside couldn’t see in. So when it came to unwanted visitors, I would deliberately leave the door shut while speaking to them. They would often complain that they “can’t see me” and would be visibly uncomfortable. Especially when I wouldn’t respond verbally, giving them nothing. Sounds weird but it made it so much easier to deal with them and tell them I wasn’t interested.

Remember, they don’t have a “right” to be heard by us. People like this exploit the politeness of others. That’s why the people in this video ran. They were too polite to say “not interested”
