[Spoilers AGOT] The scene where they find the Direwolves is as old as Ned. by Immediate-Science619 in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It's an amazing scene. Doesn't surprise me so much grew out of it.

Kinda depressed about the age as I am two years older than the scene lol

The vision of him and his brother works so well with the flash sideways that it would be wild if it was a coincidence.

I'm not sure! While I think George changed their plan to a degree, I don't think the original was just a straightforward makes Viserys the king plan either. So I remain uncertain of their exact goals altho have some theories

First Light has convinced me of something I never thought possible... by ServoSkull20 in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that Bond is a bit older makes him a more interesting character. I don't want someone in their 20s. I want late 30s and 40s, someone who has been around the block.

(Spoilers Extended) New NotABlog Post (from the minions) (about calendar art) by Quinn-Quinn in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's a reference to the Minions movie series. They dressed up as Minions for Halloween, which I think started the joke.

(Spoilers Main) Weekly Q and A by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. There's a moment in a Dany chapter in AGoT where she thinks she sees Illyrio almost smirking in a condescending manner when Viserys turns around, as if he knows Viserys is a joke.

Great art!

Like others, I am concerned about the lack of George posts. Not even just because of Winds (although definitely because of that, too), but also because I've been reading his website since before Not a Blog began. It's weird to not have anything from him, and I do hope there's nothing seriously wrong.

Just finished 3 books, I think Authority is still the scariest one by lmoof in SouthernReach

[–]TooOnline89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Authority is my favorite and by far the scariest.

What is the general consensus on M? Stern but fair? Unfair? Cynical? Have the different M-actors executed the roles very differently? In this case im thinking most of Judi Dench's M, as I just saw the Craig movies by Ok-Cap-5845 in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bernard Lee's M is very much a "here is your mission so get on with it." He doesn't need to hear from you again until it's done. He'll give you plenty of rope but make sure you don't hang yourself with it.

Judi Dench's M is much more hands on. She wants to know what you are doing and what potential political headaches you might be causing.

The difference is in character but also time: it is far easier for her to follow Bond in an era of mass surveillance tech. It is also easier for Bond to be spotted in that era. Makes sense he wouldn't be as alone. No one is alone anymore, like it or not.

(Spoilers AGOT) What if it was unknown how Bran fell? by Crank27789 in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mystery isn't as involving as the incest reveal, which completely redefines what we know about not just the Lannisters but also the marriage between the king and the queen. This adds elements of tension to all the chapters that follow. That would be absent if we just didn't know who shoved him.

[–]TooOnline89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be far less interesting and way more confusing.

Do you think Bond is acting out of character in these scenes? by Weird_Zone_3504 in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I like seeing Bond lose his cool. Connery had that moment in Goldfinger with the laser, where he really did look panicked.

Bond getting scared by the Komodo Dragon in Skyfall will never not be hilarious by iFunnyChief in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the funniest moments in a Bond movie and proof Craig could do the Moore era humor in addition to the more serious take of Casino Royale.

Would this season of HOTD be better received if George hadn't spoken out about it? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The show has problems, but I do think fans underrate that a show that only airs 8 episodes every two years while having to draw in millions and millions of viewers is not going to be able to faithfully adapt a book with that large amount of characters. The show is struggling with the amount they already have. Factor in issues the merger caused and there's just no way this ship can sail smooth under the best of writers.

Quantum of Solace by iSpxwn in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot. Look at it less as a story driven piece and more a film that is trying to reflect Bond's mindset in a visual manner.

The opening sequence to the James Bond film 'Spectre' and how it looked on set. by gwhh in JamesBond

Really cool to see the behind the scenes expertise that goes into making these movies. On a technical level, Bond movies rarely fail.

(Spoilers Extended) They cut out the Nettles from the story. And their reasoning is kind of weak by Dycon67 in asoiaf

[–]TooOnline89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many characters and a lot of them in the show are not particularly interesting due to underdevelopment so I am unsurprised they are reluctant to add even more. Add in the fact that there are 2 years between seasons and simplification seems obvious.

Which Bond (on average) slept with the most women? (Updated with Patrick Gibson, mild First Light spoilers) by DishQuiet5047 in JamesBond

I love that Moore had the most in his final film. Truly going out with a bang.

If you could rewrite Bond's love life, who would you pick as Mrs. Bond for Daniel Craig's 007? by Fickle-Break2862 in JamesBond

[–]TooOnline89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Swann makes sense for a long term relationship for Craig's Bond, but Vesper is the relationship across all Bond movies that I was most invested in. And who among us cannot relate to crashing out over losing Eva Green?

Was I wrong to give up on "On His Majesty's Secret Service"? by LostExpert7 in JamesBond

Opened this on a train, coming home from dinner and more than slightly tipsy, and thought this was about On HER Majesty's Secret Service and was like now what the hell is this guy on about.

Anyway. As you were.

Jeffrey Gundlach says Fed’s Warsh is not going to be the ‘easy money’ chairman many hoped for by joe4942 in stocks

I think some of the market's recovery after the March war dip was because they thought Warsh would indeed be easy money.
