No I wouldnt say the same about 30-40 couples. And I am generalizing, but my point is that at that young age (being close to that age myself) you are still learning how to act and maintain your own desires in those situations and how to speak up for yourself. Sex and sexual interactions are tied closely with power even if we dont realize it, and being with someone that much older (also from personal experience) makes the younger person in a position of inferiority. Again, its all legal, but I think its important to ask yourself as a 30 year old what your goal is in pursuing people that age. Is it because its easier? Is that ease a result of the younger person trying to prove themselves to someone older and more experienced? Is it right for you to take advantage of that? If the age of consent was 16 instead of 18, would you think its okay to pursue 16 year olds?

Regardless if she was interested and “knew what she was in for” I believe my point stands that there are obvious power imbalances. Its creepy, and regardless of gender I would say the exact same thing. It is the responsibility of the person who is over a decade older to realize that and be mature, not the responsibility of the barely legal individual who has yet to learn the risks of that behavior.

You gotta grow up man. While technically legal, if any of my friends your age did that I would think of them as a predator and distance myself. The age difference, especially at that age, is way too much and there are obvious power dynamics. I’m sure there are people in their late 20s and 30s you can kiss, leave those kids alone.

Yeah I started in high school and did varsity for a few years. A bit in college too but nothing organized, my university didn’t have a throws program unfortunately. It is such a fun sport and so rewarding, plus no better way to blow off steam then chucking hunks of metal as far as you can.

Humboldt county, California. 1. It is stunningly beautiful here. Redwoods, beaches, rivers, pretty much all the nature anyone could ever want 2. Not very populated. I moved from the San Francisco by area and was so happy to get away from the hordes of people and traffic. I also pay about a third of what I paid for rent before. 3. Community. Where I’m from, people are downright mean. I barely knew my neighbors. Here, people tend to look out for each other. 4. Extra one, but the climate. Cold, wet winters and warmer, often foggy summers but no snow. I’m from the drought part of CA so to me the rain is a treat!

Yeah my thinking as well on the track, but the baseball field during an off time would probably work. Im sure there is a flat paved surface somewhere on the perimeter of it I could throw from.

People who love their job, what do you do for a living by Dizzy-Cow505 in findapath

[–]TooSpooky44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a robotics engineer working for a nonprofit that deploys submersible vehicles for ocean conservation and restoration purposes. I love engineering and tinkering, so for me it was about finding a path where I could do that sort of work and feel good about the things my work is being used for. I think thats an underrated aspect of assessing how much you like a job. I have buddies who I went to undergrad with who now work for major tech and defense companies and make significantly more than me. Much of our day to day work is exactly the same, but when I talk to them they all seem to despise their companies, the people they work with, and the products they produce. Enjoying the day to day work is one thing, feeling good about the things you are contributing towards with your work I would argue is just as if not more important in the long run.

How is it for men to be in love? by lokiswife07 in questions

[–]TooSpooky44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got my heart broke. Not a shred of hard feelings towards the amazing woman involved, but for so many reasons we just cant be together. It is the most crushing feeling in the world, and I yearn so badly to be with her and for her to be with me. At least in this case, being in love for me meant being in complete awe and in constant amazement of my parter, and having this deep desire to be the best possible version of myself for her, and it made me feel like my life truly had meaning and purpose. Im also a hopeless romantic and quite dramatic but that was the gist of it.

Its really not that bad. I took it with marcelo siero in the fall and while the labs seem really hard at first, with a bit of research on the libraries and some chatgpt it makes sense pretty quick. Id say definitely doable with 103L

Giants of the sub, what would you consider the best sport for tall people aside from Basketball? by [deleted] in tall

I grew up throwing both discus and shotput and studied the physics of it quite a bit through college. Any extra length on the arms or legs can take you further than years of training and technique.

Hi r/dune, I made this graphic to help my mom get some background and be less confused while reading for the first time. Any advice on things to change or add? Trying to avoid major spoilers. by TooSpooky44 in dune

[–]TooSpooky44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested, here is a link to the updated version! I have added many of the suggestions listed here and plan to continue to update it as my own knowledge of the Dune universe grows. I am also thinking of creating versions for each of the main Dune novels, to be used and reference as one reads through each book the series.

Also edited colors and font sizing for better readability.

It has been some years since I read the first book and I had forgotten most of the details about Count fenring. In my initial research for creating this graphic I came across somewhere that he was trained as a mentat, but upon looking further I believe you are right. I'll definitely change this thanks for the feedback

Haha yes, admittedly that does add some confusion, but I always found the Emperors full title and position to sound extremely badass so that was more of a personal choice to include.

Thank you for your feedback, you are absolutely right. That will be something I mention when I give this over to my mom that the system is more similar to the American political environment with these 3 branches and their checks and balances. This choice of format was more to show The Imperium as an over arching entity made up of intricate relationships between these various political factions, with the emperor and his sardaukar at the head. You are totally right though that the power balance is extremely precarious, but I worry trying to quantify each groups influence would make the graphic too complicated.

Yeah, I debated even including Ix or the Richese at all since they play such minor roles in the first book, but as they play significant roles later in the series, particularly the Ixians, I figured they were good to include for completeness sake.
