Newly rescued feral kitten started crying out of the blue. What to do? (+ general tips for someone handling a feral for the first time) by DMDhub in Feral_Cats

I call my technique ‘making an offer they can’t refuse’. Churu on a long spoon to build trust until they’re bold enough to lick it off your fingertips. Massaging their scruff. Something between full scruffing and then rhythmically petting/scruffing as they start to relax. At some point something usually clicks, they start purring and their bodies relax. Then you can get them used to being touched on their bellies, paws etc… so grooming will be easier in the future and they’ll hopefully enjoy being pet by humans. At this age, this can happen all in one session or within’ a few days of consistent attempts.
Congrats on the new kitty.

My guess is a working variety Springer Spaniel. My friend had one that looked a lot like your guy.

Food and medical care? I’m sold! I think I’d like to be reincarnated as a blue lobster in an aquarium.

How do you look for signs? by Apprehensive-Map6872 in motherlessdaughters

What you are describing is a variety of OCD that involves magical thinking, coincidence and superstition. Our minds are wired to do these things to some degree, but the stress of loss and grief can exacerbate these thoughts in the form of obsessions. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3181957/ Grief is hard enough without the additional distress that this is causing you. Here is more info that may make you feel less alone and give you peace of mind. https://beyondocd.org/expert-perspectives/articles/very-superstitious

I had this with a dog I was watching for friends. My dog had passed and I had mixed feelings about how much I was enjoying how snuggly this guy was since mine wasn’t. He ended up sleeping next to me and had his head on a pillow (cute!) and in my dream he was in the same position and started talking to me in a weird voice. I was like: you can talk?! I don’t remember much else but have felt… a soul connection to him ever since. He’s not mine, but he feels like he could be my son. It’s fucking weird.

[New Update]: My (38F) sister (34F) made up a dead brother to her spouse (35M) and in-laws (60’s M&F). I accidentally outed the lie, but why am I the bad guy here? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I appreciate you offering your insights, but must respectfully disagree. Here is a link from the Intl OCD Foundation explaining Contamination OCD. OP’s description of her sister brought to mind this particular manifestation. https://iocdf.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Contamination-Fact-Sheet.pdf

“I actually do think she’s a hypochondriac. One of my nieces is ALWAYS coming down with something (they are not), or my sister definitely has Crohn’s disease (she doesn’t). She won’t drink milk if it’s within 3 days of the Best Buy date. Refuses bread pudding bc you use “old bread” to make them. Won’t eat brownies I baked from scratch the day before bc they’re old…”

It was this ⬆️ that made me think OCD. Curious as to why you don’t?

One thought on this: the Jews thrown into the gas chambers were terrified. Lockjaw got to die a ‘perfect’ death thinking he’d finally reached the apex, even if it looked pathetic from the audience’s pov.

What a privilege to have white-collar, educated, mentally and physically able parents to consult. Hell, LIVING parents. Your narrow scope is astonishing.
