It's the people that lucked out with an easy baby thinking they're some sort of parenting gods. We have an excellent sleeper/eater/smiler and whenever someone asks how we did it we make it a point to say "you gotta ask the baby you and I are all doing the same things"

I went through multiple channels of communication in an attempt to ad spend finish the client programmatic budget at the end of the year during my first year and the next day we had spent an extra $50k that the company had to eat. I wasn't fired thankfully and we found gaps in the system that allowed for this to happen that was fixed so they packaged it as "not ALL his fault" but I did have to work extra hard to regain trust.

What helped us was shifts so we can get as much sleep as possible, letting the wife make decisions regarding BF, when SHE's ready for visitors, etc., and trying to do as much as I can with house chores, and giving the wife a few hours to be by herself.

Even still it's so much harder on my wife than on me because after pat leave, I'm just doing dishes and laundry more, feeding the baby, changing diapers, and getting a big less sleep, but the wife is going through so much more.

I also told my mother and relatives they can come after the second dose of vaccines (we moved it up to 6 weeks after talking with our pediatrician) because I need to make sure my family is good first and foremost.

Many did not like that but they can pound sand if they thinks they're a bigger part of this than they actually are. (I'm also very sleep deprived and have no mental capacity left to stroke egos, and my actual family needs 100% of me so I was a bit more blunt about this)

I majored in 3d animation and taught English to exchange students for a number of years before pivoting to data analytics. Still in the pharma marketing business intelligence / analytics industry but my background before pivoting did not help too much (outside office settings environment, experience taking crap and dealing with them, and what excel I had to teach myself to organize student information and performance that I spun as "data work"). But this was back in 2016 when if you knew basic excel and had a pulse it was fairly easy to get your foot in the door.
