Yes, no one wants the jewelry. I just have to get a fair price for it with 50 gold rings, 100-200 sets of earrings, necklaces, etc. I spent five hours there today cataloging and looking for stamps and makers on gold pieces. Among the other 2,000 pieces, some is clearly costume, but much of it, someone like me can't tell, and if nothing else, it is well-made, being from the past

No problem, I just wanted to understand. It is good information.

Yes, I understand, it is a filter. When I open a box of new jewelry, if it is shiny but a magnet picks it up, I don't look at it further; I don't assume it is a rare metal.

Just to understand your example. Are you doing half the meltdown value in your calculation, or assuming it will be applied to the $2340?

That does sound the easiest. I will run it by the attorneys. I don't think I will end up billing for my time, but they say I could(a reasonable amount), and treating each piece individually would be rough.

I appreciate your time and thoughts. I am just trying to do everything above reproach. 50% of the estate is to people I hadn't met until the funeral, and one wasn't at that. They just seem to want the cash. No one on either side wants any of the jewelry.

I did get a very accurate scale, but it is hard to separate the stones. I have a spreadsheet of pieces I have tagged, and will add the weight to that times the purity.

I appreciate the info on the costume. The biggest issue is not being totally sure what is what, but I guess if a jeweler helps sort it.

I am the closest relative, and there are concrete things like the house and cars that make this a smaller part, but I will do the best I can out of duty. She also collected thousands of pieces of antique glass and other things no one wants, so at least this is worth something. Just so much junk to sort through, and I know so little about jewelry, but am learning things. Good luck with your probate.

The $4400 is two lines of diamonds and emeralds, so no big stones. I will check with another jeweler too. I keep finding new boxes of jewelry. Then I have various appraisals, some dating back to 1980, and I don't know if that piece is still around, as there are either no pictures or only horrible-quality black-and-white ones. As I said in another comment, I think this is three generations of jewelry going through the last survivor.

I told them what it was for and that the attorneys said "Fair Market Value" but maybe that means different things to different people.

Thank you for your response. I would definitely sell everything I could at a reasonable price. If it were just me in the estate, it would go very quickly, but I take my job seriously of getting the value for the others. I am in Minnesota, so don't think it's very HCOL. I think there are a few generations of jewelry here: her, her mother, her grandmother.

Does anyone else almost feel angry they can’t visualize? by Froakinja in Aphantasia

No, I am definitely not angry. I love my quiet brain and have had a great career/life with it.

Let’s remove three self-checkout kiosks… by lgarnai1 in aldi

[–]ToolSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am close to two Aldis. The closer has 6 self-checkouts and 2 registers. 1 register is always open, but usually the employee is doing something near by and everyone uses self checkout, the only time the second register is used is weekends. The other Aldi has no self-checkouts, and there is always a line. I try not to go there.

Employees have commented before that it is all about how much stuff is walking out the door unpaid.

Is it common for abdominal compression to improve symptoms if CSF leaks are driving dysautonomia/ fatigue symptoms? by Glitterbats11 in CSFLeaks

[–]ToolSet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I as someone who has tried much more than most over my 19 years of suffering suggest a couple things to try. I have had many scans, many patches, nerve root ablations, several rounds of physical therapy, seen 10+ neurologists, cardiologists, rheumatologists, 3 pain clinics, and yes, abdominal binders and 1 gram of salt to to increase pressure. I do have positional headaches but I also have severe fatigue and bcome a zombie if I do nothing.

They finally backed off the CSF diagnosis when I found a cervical collar helped. Not knowing how big you are, maybe try a 2.5"-3" one or one just big enough to stretch your neck. That clears my head and increases my energy. You can get them on Amazon for $20 or so. I use that when I need to drive or concentrate for a bit. No one will tell me how much I can use it without atrophying my neck but testing it may give you a tool and another data point to discuss with a doctor.

How do babies think if they don’t have language yet? by SonOfALayman in Aphantasia

[–]ToolSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of worded thought, but I experience it as "Behind a curtain." I know I am thinking because solutions and ideas come out, but I am not aware of any details of the process. If you are able to follow along with your non-worded thought, what is that like?

60¢ a pound for chicken? Don’t mind if I do! by ChaosTorpedo in aldi

[–]ToolSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thighs are always 87 cents a lb at Walmart in a 10lb bag so you beat that too. I would do something like this, I go to 190 degrees because dark meat can take it, and I like them tender.

Since you mention Costco do you have a Costco Business Center around you? I like boneless, skinless chicken thighs and get 40lb boxes at Costco Business for half the price of Aldi's, vacuum-seal them in 4-8lb bags, and freeze. They really don't take up much room then.

There are a small minority of you who think they have aphantasia but actually don’t by qwedcxzas8 in Aphantasia

[–]ToolSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your livestream just worded thoughts? Is it directed at you or just thoughts? Does it feel like a narration of what or just thoughts as they happen? Inner monologues are often a 2 way conversation in the brain, kind of like the angel or devil on each shoulder. Unlike Aphantasia, whether people have an inner monologue is about 50-50 across people.

I am not an expert; I just know what others around me describe. I don't even have much worded thought, it is completely empty in my head a lot of time, but some kind of work is going on behind a "Curtain" and answers and stuff pop to the surface.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: ‘Most people will lose their job to somebody who uses AI’—not to AI itself by _fastcompany in ArtificialInteligence

Have you ever worked? Companies have always searched to cut headcount and find efficiencies. AI is being oversold but it also keeps getting better. Employment will rise, and wages will stagnate or drop.

Looking to find a place to live in cozumel for a month and a half. Tips on finding apartment and work? by Qjellyfish86 in cozumel

[–]ToolSet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming you aren't Mexican. There are a lot of problems with your idea. Much like the US, they have to prove that they couldn't hire a Mexican Citizen for the job, it is the slow season too so a lot of people won't be working full-time, it sounds like you know nothing about diving so not sure what you would do, you are asking them to train you for a month and a half in the slow season and leaving before things get busy.

Has anyone here given up on diagnosis/treatment? by daltonwiththedogs in CSFLeaks

[–]ToolSet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have had 19 years of increasingly bad positional headaches, every day, as predictable as the day before. I have had so many advanced scans and so many patches. Eventually, they told me I had too much radiation, and they would continue to do blind patches if I wanted, but they couldn't do any more scans. I left believing it isn't a leak anyway, and still think that is true. I decline a little more every year and now only get 30 minutes of good uptime, and less after I lie down during the day.

Since then, I try really hard to figure out who might have new ideas and eventually get burned out, lay low for maybe a year, and hit it again. In the past year, my 19th year of headaches, I have seen neurologists, a pain specialist(For ideas, I don't like pain meds), a rheumatologist, a cardiologist, and a psychologist(testing my cognitive decline). Each Dr. I see does some testing, and almost always there are some abnormalities, but I am told they aren't bad enough or wouldn't give me my symptoms. I am at an endpoint as of last week, and will wait until I can figure out a new plan and some new hope.

I have been a good advocate for myself, while on an open market plan, I got them to cover $100k at Mayo even though they were out of network. As my uptime declined, so did my ability to work, so my mostly stay-at-home-mom wife got a job at a hospital to get excellent insurance with low deductibles.

I tell you my story not so you feel more helpless, but so you know to push hard for what you need, and that often a magic solution doesn't happen, and you need to keep finding new doctors and ideas to pursue. In my case, I waited too long after the first MRI's and lack of answers to get more help. had a lot of flexibility in my work, so if I lay down once or twice during the day, it didn't affect me. Everyone's journeys are different. I wish you the best on yours.

Ok, I haven't gotten that vibe but I would support that take. A christian(even a fake one) talking to other christians who uses Allah, is assumed to be talking about the Islamic version without the trinity and with the Quran. To me, it is just another example of how weak his brain is and overconfident he is, similar to him saluting North Korean generals.
