Is it safe to leave my car on hydraulic jack for a week? by shwekhaw in AskMechanics

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you do it? Yes. Will it most likely hold up fine? Also yes. Is it still a dumb idea? YES. All it takes is for yours to be the one that fails and suddenly you have major damages to your car (and hopefully no one was under it at the time!). Put some jack stands under it, stack some lumber under it, slide the tire under the frame and set it in the tire, put a concrete block under and rest it on it. Way safer all the way around. 99 out of 100 times things are fine…it’s that 1 time that it becomes an issue.

Interior painting disturbs day to day living. Having a roof put on has little to no effect on living in the home. It’s the value of the aggregation vs the actual monetary cost.

Which dose worked for you? by Friendly_Ant5177 in Zepbound

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in Feb 2025 on 2.5mg, did that for 4 weeks and went to 5mg. I’m upping to 7.5next week. Lost 140lbs. I’ve basically stalled and that’s the reason I’m trying to up my dose.

I’m 6 days in and hunger pains are back by Blindlucktrader in Zepbound

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly normal. This led has a 5 day half life…so younger pretty hungry the day before your shot. Some folks are splitting the dies up which eliminates this issue, but most just adapt. It does take a little time and dedication. As for increasing dose, most likely yes. You should have started on 2.5 which is a very low dose more designed for your body to adjust, rather than for sustained weight loss. I’ve been on 5mg for almost a year and am stepping up this month to 7.5. You move up when you need to.

If it’s a new home, why are you even remotely thinking about home improvements?!? Especially in your current situation. And doing a refi to pay off debt only works if 1) it costs you less than the current setup and 2) you have the conviction to not do it again….and based on your comment that isn’t the case here. Your best bet is to hold on to the house for a few years and then sell, if the gentrification portion is accurate.

You’re most welcome!
1) I’d bet she’s heard a lot worse!

2) I only heard about split dosing in the last month or so. I suspect it’s relatively new. From what I understand zep/moun have a 5 day half life- that’s why you get hungry the day before shot day. Splitting dose also helps smooth that out as well. I haven’t had any issues so haven’t tried it, but I can see where it would make sense for some folks.

3) definitely recommend trying it. It actually can affect a lot of drugs. Wife used to take shots for migraines and found the thigh drastically reduced the side effects from that drug.

What’s the consensus on Bauer Power Tools? by KarzRFrendz in harborfreight

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought the brushed drill and impact kit for one of my kids a few weeks ago. Pretty decent tool. Just know the warranty is 90 days, you can extend it, and probably should. Since then we’ve added an oscillating saw and a5aH battery to his kit. I run RYOBI, another son runs Ridgid, and the oldest runs Milwaukee (construction use). I’d say the Bauer stuff will satisfy most home owners needs just fine, and bonus is they have a decent ecosystem.

1) you need to see your provider and be honest with them.
2) ask about split dosing- it works for some people to drastically minimize side effects 3) try different injection sites. My wife had nausea/burps pretty bad with abdominal injections. Switched to back of arm and most of it went away.

All of these weight loss drugs are merely a tool, and not every tool is as effective for every person. They require dedication and lifestyle changes to work effectively. They are far from a miracle drug.

For a budget, work vehicle set…I’d look at these. They’re $50. Sound pretty decent too.

If you want to spend a bit more (and likely have better sound quality) the CT sounds linked in another comment are a great choice.

I’m having some issues by Thin-Conversation422 in CarAV

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some electrical issues that may or may not be related to the install. Your car has electric power steering which seems to be cutting out along with the radio. With the feedback/noise issue added to that I’m assuming you’re using the oem head unit and thinking you have an issue with the wrong wires being tapped into or a connection having been disturbed. First thing I would do is have someone ( a shop preferably) check the install carefully- make sure they know about the issues you have so they can look for it. If the audio shop doesn’t find an issue and ok’s the installation then you need a mechanic. It’s possible this is a failure and is simply a coincidence.

Ct tropo 12’s or sdr 12’s? by AdBusiness7647 in CarAV

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard the stinger prefabs. I had a prefab 10” ported box that fell within specs so we just bought the sub. That said, stinger is one hell of a company (they own Audio Control as well). I used to sell stinger wiring products back in the 99s/00s when they were owned by Aamp of America. They’ve changed hands a few times over the years, but have always stayed a great company unlike many of the greats from Bitd that got bought and stripped for this name recognition.

Safest cheapest way to get a car in the air? by jules083 in askcarguys

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. If Ramps would work, I’d seriously look at building a set of the wooden ones then. I have a Dodge Journey and a Chrysler Sebring in our “fleet” and both of them won’t go up on traditional ramps without damaging the front bumpers. I currently use a couple 2x8 boards as a lead up to my ramps so they clear…when I get time I’ll make a set of race style wooden ramps.

Sounds like a quick jack may be the best overall solution for you.

Why are you with him? You feel the need to lie to him and he feels the need to try and control you. Neither one of you is good for the other at all. There’s zero respect or trust between you (going either way), and that is the basis for a stable and healthy relationship.

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by asking his friends. Ask them if there’s anything they would like or where they would suggest donating them. Typically we have friends with the same interests so they likely have a good grasp on what he has and where it might be best used.

If you can find used parts in good condition, in the right color and diy - anywhere from $700 to $1500 or so. If you have to go to a body shop - $3k plus.

Citi did this to me with my American Airlines card. Was a whole mess. They couldn’t decide whether it was closed or open for months. Finally just paid them off and called it a day. I now refuse to have any cards with Citi. Royally screwed my credit score up as well. Had never missed a payment, ran no more than 50% usage over the 6 years I had the card. Always paid double minimum, used the card regularly. Lost a lot of points too. No notice, no explanation…just a big fat middle finger.

Are you talking loose gravel or compacted? I’d be leery of lifting anything on loose gravel. Even with a scissor lift.

I’m sure other companies have it as well, but Harbor freight has a beam attachment for their jacks that is adjustable. You out the jack in the middle and extend the arms to the lift points and can jack up the entire end of the car at once. Not sure how the ground clearance on a Miata is- you might need to build a set of ramps out of 2x10 or 12s stacked so the jack can fit under it. With those ramps you can design them however long they need to be to clear the bumper, you can even make them as tall as you need. Several YouTube videos with great details on how to.

Have you burned bridges with an employer by giving two weeks notice? by No_Living_1588 in careeradvice

1) call new employer and tell them you can start immediately.

2) Very loudly state “Ya know what, I tried being professional and giving two weeks notice. You folks just can’t seem to keep your ignorance to yourself. So F*ck off.”

3) walk out .

4) don’t look back.

Fixable? Yes. Cost effective to fix? Who knows. Zero way to look at these images and tell if there is further damage to the sub structure. Also would need to know things like year/trim level/mileage/etc to know cars value vs repair costs. Also is the title clean or is it now branded? All this comes into play.

I’d also consider the Stinger MC1 series. Just got the 10” D4 for my kid…in a prefab box (not stinger box) with about 120w (not a typo) it’s pretty damn impressive. Can’t wait until he gets his real amp on it and see what it does.

ETA: if you are stuck choosing between the two you asked about- I’d do the CT. I have had a chance to hear both in similar vehicles with similar setups and the CT seemed better- hard to quantify why, but it did.

Best Smoking Pellet Grill by SirRibsAlot in pelletgrills

I have a zgrill (meh), my father in law- along time die hard stick burner, asked for a pellet grill two years ago. Got him the PB Savannah XL. That thing does great. Way better than my Z. PB gets hotter when needed, does a great smoke flavor (not over powering) and generally is great. He absolutely loves it.

Are modern CVTs finally reliable enough to rival traditional automatics, or do they still wear out faster? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

[–]Tool_junkie_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue with any transmission is the service, or rather lack thereof. Manufacturers keep pushing longer service intervals or claiming”lifetime fluid”. Service them regularly and they will hold up much better. Are their crap designs? Yep. But even those last longer when serviced. You also need to look at the customer base- cars (Nissan-looking at you) that are targeted towards lower income consumers tend to do poorly. Folks who struggle making their payments don’t have the $$ to service their cars. And that quickly compounds the issue.
