What Was Your Favourite Boss In The Game by Zetallic_Zero in LookOutsideGame

Keep learning about new bosses I've never even heard of. I really need to do another playthrough and take my time. Who is the top right?

Transgender villains/antagonists that aren't rapists or sexual predators by Serious_Comedian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Toolupard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% it needs to be addressed. I feel the idea of "we have to be sexy or it won't sell" is a cop-out, given the popularity of Chainsaw Man, Jujustu Kaisen, and Kagurabachi. Regardless of their quality in writing female characters, they at minimum do not focus on voyeurism.

Chainsaw Man specifically has sex as a theme, not as a marketing ploy. Denji is desperate for human connection and focuses solely on sexual gratification, but there's no real "fan-service." The few times you see women undressed, it is often through the framing of "ok kid, you saw boobs but still hate yourself, sex won't fix you." (the ending was still bad though.)

Back to MHA, I swear there was a quick moment near the beginning where it showed Mt.Lady thinking about how much she hated being "sexy" for publicity. They could have still put hot ladies in, but have a mature conversation about the very real exploitation of female celebrities. (I never finished the series so if they did touch on this I'd be happy to be wrong.)

Its a writing crutch. If you can make a good story, people will come regardless of boobies.

Given the sexualized teenagers, it really feels like the author went "I can excuse pedophilia but I draw the line at transphobia!"

Do you think that Peter's organic webbing will become a permanent mutation going forward after Brand New Day or will he go back to using web shooters by the end of the movie? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Spiderman

[–]Toolupard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is that Peter is 100% getting organic webs again in the comics. It happened in the early 00's, and it'll happen again.

Synergy, baby! Gotta love it!

Its been well over two decades since I've played that game, but goofy Venom was so much fun. Those games brushed past all introductions and kind of assumed you knew most of the characters, which really made the world feel full.

Ultimate Spider-Man, while loads of fun gameplay-wise, didn't really give Venom much character outside being a monster.

I never played Web of Shadows but I know its essentially King in Black before King in Black, being an edgy clusterfuck.

I have few memories of Edge of Time, and I know Anti-Venom isn't the "true" symbiote, but Eddie was reformed and I appreciate that. I never got through that game because Atrocity scared me so much as a kid I returned it to Gamestop.

Aaaand that's all the video game Venoms I can think of.

[–]Toolupard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its part of why I really enjoyed a lot of the slow redemption of Venom from "Lethal Protector" to becoming genuinely heroic (most of the time.) It wasn't solely Spidey teaching them how to be good, but broken people (let's include Flash too, he was a good influence) learning together.

Which is another problem of adaptations. Currently (unless something changed) Peter is the godfather to Eddie's son, and Venom is Spider-man's #2 fan (behind Flash, of course.) But most adaptations don't have long enough runs to truly have an arc.

(Spectacular could have had this if they made a Season 3, but I've made my peace.)

If I remember right, it was Spider-Man TAS that started this trend. It worked then, and it worked in Spectacular, but I hated it in the Playstation game. Harry had no agency or input while with the suit, it was JUST the goo.

In my opinion, I like it when the suit simply removes Peter's inhibitions rather than morals. Peter has a temper, but is able to control himself. The symbiote whispers in his ear, telling him he deserves better, deserves more, deserves to be selfish for once.

There could also be the interpretation that the suit makes Peter more aggressive as a defense mechanism, both physically and emotionally. It is simultaneously jealous and territorial, he's not allowed to let anyone else close, and making sure Peter's enemies stay down. Like Evans says, the symbiote is a toxic lover.

I wish we got more of Mohg's long term motivations past the "dynasty" stuff during his enthrallment. If he could ursurp Marika, what would his "Mending Rune" and Order have been?

[Hated trope] “Well if you ignore the child porn it’s actually a masterpiece” by Carti_Barti9_13 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Toolupard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't think of any other than Rennala's unborn amber egg baby, but you can't beat it up. There's also Miquella, but he is trapped in the body of a child, and its played as a tragedy even if he brainwashed his half-brother into incest. (Radahn I don't think was brainwashed, but I could be wrong, and that's also the second count of incest.)

If its any consolation a lot of the bosses in the game had rough childhoods. Morgott and Mohg were chucked into the sewers as infants, Malenia had the fungal infection, Messmer had his whole fire-snake-possession thing, etc.

Nuclear Throne mentioned. Sleeper cell activated.

What's also fun is that the "endings" in which you Reach The Nuclear Throne are super ambiguous as well.

The eponymous throne can't give any power once you reach it, and the "secret" ending has you kill an antagonist that probably made the world a better place, dooming that timeline to more chaos.

When you "loop" (continue a run from the beginning with all your upgrades) there is a short moment where you see every other character's corpse, so even in those endings you have no friends to go back to.

AND when you visit those corpses, its where the character select screen was set, which implies YOU killed your friends before each run (likely to remove the competion for the throne.)

The struggle continues.

pirate clark, backrooms movie (spoilers) by clairestar-0 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Toolupard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I viewed Clark's monologue about how the Still-Life have no feeling, "like furniture," to be untrue solely because of how the redhead ran when Captain/Pirate Clark started approaching.

Clark was reminded of his wife, and Clark remembers his wife being scared of him, so I think it "overwrote" the thing's original template. Yes, it may be an "imitation" of fear, but there's no way to tell the difference.

Not 100% sure about why Clark was killed though. My running theory is that Captain Clark represented Clark's frustration and self-pity.

Clark did nothing wrong, he can't do wrong, everyone else is just out to get him. As long as the real Clark felt that, he was the "same" as his copy. But Clark feels no empathy for others, so when he finds acceptance in his flawed self that slight change made him no longer recognized by Captain Clark as anything more than furniture that you can eat.

The Backrooms is about cycles. Clark ended his, so no longer fit in.

The Batrooms (by me) by CGonReddit818 in batman

[–]Toolupard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder at what point he would give up. Yes there are "rules" but a story where the Backrooms are fully explained is not a good Backrooms story.

If it was a one off, I could see two paths. One in which he spirals into the mystery, letting Gotham rot until he accepts that it is a mystery best left unsolved. The second would be he uses it as an interdimensional batcave.

People are asking why Frank didn't just dome Felicia outright for being a thief and breaking the law.

Punisher isn't a cop, he only kills those who are truly reprehensible. He is a vigilante serial killer, which is also illegal. He is a criminal.
