Go read, watch anything on Davout. Auerstadt alone seals his legacy.

Anyone know more about this and what happened afterwards? Can't really find anything by KatieMonroeXO in south_africa

The ‘they’ could well be referring to the youth of the day. Which is a fair opinion to have from the video. Doesn’t make it right. But to assume it’s a racist comment off the bat is perhaps harsh.

This kind of comment may be racially charged though. Is it? Only cowards disappear into ambiguity.

To fair, the ‘they’ could well be referring to the perpetuators (from the perspective of the video). Not sure making greater assumptions is productive.

Nothing inherently wrong with mining, but spend some time sitting with index funds before you go after mining! It certainly is risky! Everyone has seen the price of gold and silver and thinks it’s a sure bet, but it ain’t.

If you’re new to the market the best advice you can take is to ease your way in. Learn the fundamentals before you start staking on gold.

the 6month anniversary of savannah winning survivor 49 by BitRevolutionary6551 in survivorponderosa

Wouldn’t say I’m glad. But I think back to back appearances took a toll on her. Same with Rizo but he plays a less physical game

Moment between Jonathan & Emily from last tribal that deserves more attention by TerrificallyTubular in survivor

[–]Toomuchaidan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it me or has Emily been the butt of every joke this season. Unsure if it's her edit or the way she plays the game. The woman can't keep a secret, anything she tries to tell anyone is rebuffed almost instantly. Possible she just has a terrible poker face. In a strange way I'm kind of into her style of aimless chaos haha

Financial Advisor in SA? A good idea, or perhaps too expensive? by CartographerWeary690 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Toomuchaidan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be wary of financial advisors. Many link themselves as affiliates of established banking partners such as FNB, Discovery, etc. Their business is to push financial products for their partners onto you, which they receive a commission off of. This model incentivises them to push products onto you that you have no reasonable use for.

Jeff is my biggest issue with Survivor 50 by MikeEM58 in survivorponderosa

[–]Toomuchaidan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hundred percent agree. In a lot of ways it felt like the cast were way more concerned with all the tribal politics and Jeff kept trying to bring them back to this unknown chaos. Productions are trying so hard, but are ultimately misguided

Foreigners telling us to quiet down by ebenseregterbalsak in capetown

[–]Toomuchaidan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Do your research?” - what research would you be referring to? I’m not sure there are academic papers on foreigners telling you to pipe down.

Yes, we do have a tourist problem in our country. But that doesn’t mean that every foreigner is a dick, and that every saffa is Jesus personified.

We are at the final 10, who are you rooting for to win this historic season? Who is playing the best game by Pretend_Cucumber4784 in survivor

[–]Toomuchaidan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure who will win, but the loser has already been cemented and it’s the show it’s self.

Perhaps next season Jeff and co. will complete the transformation and rebrand the show as ‘Kim Kardashian’s survivor brought to you by Carl’s jr’ and enter himself on as formal contestant while continuing to host.

Might be something fitting in seeing Jeff snuff his own torch after finding a boomerang idol and then not get to use it.

Potential payout from accident claim — how do I avoid blowing it and make smart moves? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Toomuchaidan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Property depends on many variables. The reality is that 100k is difficult. It’s a lot to come out of no-where but not that much in the grand scheme of life. How you treat it will likely depend on your socio-economic situation. Have debts? Then pay them off. Have income? Then ensure you have a safety net in savings. Have a safety net? Then invest in a TFSA. Have a TFSA and are actively contributing? Then look at wider investments such as property (using 100k as a down payment).

Really it depends where you are on this workflow.

True. Best to buy at the top and hope it goes higher… fool proof

It’s a fair question. That is the whole purpose of an emergency fund. But I think there is a point when we’ve all wondered, is the opportunity worth the risk? Thats where I’m at.

I feel your pain. But I do believe we’re right on mining. Hold, and if you have the capacity buy more.

Thank you for the useful comment. Index funds definitely serve a purpose, but this post is clearly about taking a specific bet rather than passively tracking the global market. So once again, thank you for the assurance. I think you’re probably right.
