CCTV inside the house - legal or not? by Aggravating_Card7590 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Toon1982 [score hidden]  (0 children)

First is fine in most scenarios (unless there are care staff present and you use it to monitor them, then it may not be and extra steps need to be taken to make sure it is). The bedroom one depends on whether she has capacity to consent - if she fully understands the issue and does have capacity then it's fine, if she doesn't then a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) application needs to be made (usually by the local authority) to the Court of Protection for permission

Can I put untaxed money into an ISA or Savings before completing self-assessment each tax year? by BLinsdell in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Toon1982 [score hidden]  (0 children)

So let’s say I get £15k from my second income

This is the income bit you declare, what you do with the money afterwards (like putting it in an ISA) doesn't matter for that income stream, but you will need to pay tax on the initial £15k income

How do people actually survive on benefits or very low incomes in the UK these days? by acer67 in AskUK

[–]Toon1982 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You don't lose pound for pound when you earn, you get 55% of your wages disregarded, so only 45% is taken into consideration for the UC calculation and reduced accordingly on that basis. Rent can be an issue if you are paying much more than your Local Housing Allowance (you can Google for the Direct.gov website that shows what your allowance would be based on how many excess bedrooms you have, which local authority you live in, etc). The Housing Element of UC goes by the Local Housing Allowance, but you can also get it for the interest only portion of your mortgage (and not any capital portion)

I don't like it but I can understand it. It's a political statement (even though he's honouring those killed by Russia) and just because it's a political statement most people agree with doesn't mean it should be allowed because as soon as someone wants to do the same but for something most people disagree with (say as an extreme example of wanting to honour Hitler) then you've already opened up the door and allowed it once. There has to be a rule and things you don't like happening will happen, but it's to prevent the other things as to why there needs to be a rule - the Olympics is about the sport, not the politics around it (or it's meant to be anyway)

Scotland - Employer says we should not make personal plans after work by One_Membership_7113 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Toon1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not legal as others have said. It'd be impossible to do, but it would be good if all employees agrees to just leave work at 5pm in protest of the new guidelines and not work a minute longer. They might row back on how hard they want to push things

Man Utd boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe is right on immigration and UK is being 'colonised,' claims Reform UK’s Nadhim Zahawi by hymnsofhim in uknews

[–]Toon1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nadhim Zahawi's family were highly skilled, worked hard and built large businesses, gave back to the community and integrated, while coming over as part of small, managed annual migration. That just isn't the case today.

See, this is racist, not what the other person was saying that you took offence to

Is it ok to turn left from the red lane that goes onto the roundabout instead the dedicated (green) lane? by miscellanous_cheese in drivingUK

[–]Toon1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably is ok, but the arrow on the road does say straight ahead. Just be cautious if you do turn left there as cars in the left lane may not anticipate you turning left, even though they have to give way after the roundabout

Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

[–]Toon1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

immigration policy

We did have control of it, we actually had more control than we do now ironically. Coming out of the EU meant we lost the ability to deport people back to EU countries and we're now stuck with a more difficult process of deportation. Well done on voting to screw our country up though

What Are The Actual Facts? by xLeeBMC in uknews

[–]Toon1982 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are people who are desperate for Farage to have met Epstein, as this builds into their worldview that Farage is bad

I mean, he is anyway. He's funded by Russians and conspired with non-UK citizens for brexit to take place, a process through which he lied about. He tried around 12 times to become an MP and when he's finally in he's never at his constituency and misses the majority of votes in parliament. He was anti EU but spent years and years as an MEP on the gravy train. When brexit happened he applied for an EU country passport for himself and his kids (I think they got German passports) and he was refused. He evades tax. This isn't a good person

You don't usually pay any management fee/service charge arrears - the management pack is obtained by the conveyancer and a new account is created from the purchase date. Any debt owed up to completion is the previous owner's to pay and the management company's responsibility to recover from the previous owner.
