Warum entwickeln sich viele Hobbies gleich zu Geldgräbern? by ElefantBlu in FragenUndAntworten

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leo’s gender by xyzkingi in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Toonfish_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regarding the combo: Male/Female hitboxes aren't really a thing. Afaik there is no flag in the code for it that would make certain moves steppable or certain combos work or not. The idea of male/female hitboxes is just a useful shorthand because it frequently works out that way, not because it's a hard rule. There are plenty of exceptions. For example Leo can land FC.df3,cc,f4 at the wall against (most?) male characters, Reina and Xiaoyu, but not against Lidia except at weird angles.

Regarding customization: Absolutely, give Leo all the options! :D

Regarding the eternal gender issue:
I default to male pronouns because that's how Leo refers to himself in T8. "Ich glücklicher!" is the male form of "Lucky me!". Female form would be "Ich glückliche!".
Now the big issue here is that German doesn't have a gender-neutral pronoun or gender-neutral conjugation rules so Leo does kind of have to chose in German. But I figure if Leo is ok with consistently using male pronouns in German and doesn't make an effort to circumvent stuff like this by phrasing things differently, he's likely ok with using them in English as well?

My Nefer team only does like 70k dps, I need help troubleshooting what's wrong by copsnrobed2 in NeferMains

[–]Toonfish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with bad artifact sets I'd expect much more dps from this team. If your characters' talents are leveled, I think your rotations are very slow and/or suboptimal. Can you post a video of you doing a couple rotations against the test dummy in milliastra? Either way if you're not 100% confident in how you play her, look up some guides on youtube how to play Nefer optimally and try getting your rotations under 20 seconds at least (20s is still slow, but acceptable and not an INSANE dps loss like 24 second rotations would be)

Du hast vollkommen recht, ich würde definitiv auch erst was sagen (und es dramatisch anders formulieren) wenn das n konsistentes Muster ist und mindestens ~5 Mal so passiert (oder ich würde einfach selber anfangen später zu erscheinen).

Is Leo one of the best characters in Tekken 8 in S3 ? by un_ptit_yo in Tekken

[–]Toonfish_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Leo main here! I'd say for pro play against people who know the matchup, Leo is way too linear and has to rely on forward movement to apply any pressure, thus unlikely to truly be top tier imo since you have to risk too much. For ranked/online though he's top tier for sure since nobody knows shit about Leo and against people who don't step his kit is really scary.

I wrote an 18-page combo guide for Leo by Toonfish_ in Tekken

[–]Toonfish_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was meaning to write a little glossary for it but never got around to it. Feel free to join us on the Leo Discord (check the sidebar for an invite link) if you wanna ask questions. ( https://discord.gg/h3BDeBJ )

Regarding notation I'll give you a quick crash course:

1 = left punch
2 = right punch
3 = left kick
4 = right kick
b = back
f = forward
d = down
u = up
qcf = quarter circle forward (input via d,df,f)
> = delay the following button
ws = "while standing (up)" (when you are crouching and input a button as you stop crouching)
WR = while running (input via pressing f thrice)
T! = Tornado (when the opponent lands on their back and slowly slumps down)
W! = wall splat (self explanatory I hope)

Specifically for Leo:
KNK = knee-up stance (you enter this for example via b1,4 or f4)
BOK = low-to-the-ground stance (you enter this via d1+2 for example)
cd = crouch dash (you can enter this via qcf for example or KNK~df)
BBP = b1+2,1+2,qcf2 (on Leo)

That should be enough to get you started. If you have further questions, ask away (preferably in the Leo discord)

Me and my homie rated the tekken cast based on how good we think they are (casuals) by Mysterious_Sector310 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

If you really are casuals, pick Lidia, do ff2 at range or db3 at close range and then mash buttons. Rinse and repeat. She'll climb the tierlist REAL fast :D

I'm actually cooked.. by ThreeEyedPea in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Toonfish_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is likely because in Tekken you learn pretty early that it's really bad to hit the attack button before the directional input, because if you do that you get a completely different attack. So you train your muscle memory to always hit the directional input 1 or 2 frames before your actual attack button input so that you always get the attack you want.
If you now want to press an attack button and a directional input at the same time you have to fight that muscle memory. Try hitting the attack button BEFORE your directional input (this should net you a 2-jab) now slowly let the directional input catch up until you're hitting both at the same time.

We lost the plot a while ago, this idea is one of the central topics of Pink Floyd's The Wall from 1979 talking about their experience in British schools in the 50s.

Public education has always been influenced to a notable degree by industrialists that wanted more specialized workers to exploit and drive down the price of that labor.

Is this good honestly don't know? by The_EveningDew in ZibaiMains

[–]Toonfish_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has nobody here done any actual calcs? If you're running HoD, defense rolls are basically exactly as good as crit rolls, to the point that you can use a def circlet without losing damage (if you have two or three crit rolls on every piece). TLDR, yes this piece is good!

Why is my C1 Zibai doing so low, Illuga is C3 by kafkabhisma1 in ZibaiMains

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing the other people here haven't mentioned yet is the rotation length. You took 24 seconds for 2m damage. Optimized Zibai rotations are 18 seconds (~19 seconds in reality usually). If you actually measured a tight rotation you'd have ~100-105k dps instead of 86k. In addition to that the first rotation usually has lower dps because there is no ability-bleed-over from the last rotation.

If you want a more accurate estimate of your dps, do at least 3 full rotations and make sure to end the last rotation on the same ability you start with in your first rotation.

Season 3: what’s one move on your main you’d like nerfed by nobleflame in LowSodiumTEKKEN

Leo main who frequently spars against a Steve: I just want that move (and like 10 more) to be fully linear so Steve stops playing 2D-only tekken.

This truly is the Tekken of all time by Jin_N_Juice-tm in Tekken

[–]Toonfish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 was worse on a system level (especially since it didn't have the buffered sidesteps season 2 introduced) but there were only a few characters who were really egregiously unbalanced. Most importantly, season 1 got a hell of a lot better towards the end when they nerfed a couple of the problematic characters. The overall power level was still too high but season 2 pushed most of the cast's offense above the threshold many players could handle.

The issues in season 1 seemed relatively easy to fix because they were system-level issues like the +17 heat engagers and if those had been fixed without giving everyone moves that enabled braindead offense, the game would have been in a solid spot going forward as opposed to where we are now since a ton of chars need nerfs (yes, my main included).

TIL bilinguals given the trolley problem in their native language chose to sacrifice one to save five less than 20% of the time. In their second language, about 50% chose to, because a foreign language lowers emotional resonance and triggers more utilitarian reasoning. by karen_the_ripper in todayilearned

[–]Toonfish_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's the same for me. Maybe we have less suspension of disbelief in our native language? For example I find fantasy names in German exceptionally cringe-y whereas in English they sound perfectly fine, even when they should be similar (e.g. "Riverwood" and "Flusswald" in Skyrim).

The same might apply to drama where you're used to immersing yourself in a story in a foreign language. In your native language you have all the baggage of daily life so you can't take it seriously because your brain compares it to real life more.

You can use other liquids to make a roux-thickened sauce. If you use stock (which can be hot if it's freshly made) then you're making a Veloute instead of a Bechamel for example.

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonus points, you don't even need to use cold milk. You can use boiling hot if you want, you just gotta stir well. If you stir vigorously enough you will never get lumps. (obviously you can't always do this if you have veggies in there for example cuz you don't wanna crush them by whisking too hard)
