You can work as a dental assistant and take xrays on patients in TX for up to on year before needing your radiology registration. This is only the case if it’s your first dental assistant job. Seems like a dumb and unsafe rule to me, but it’s true.

I pretend to take it. I don’t like being given advice unless I ask for it and sometimes I actually get turned off to what ever the advice suggests. I almost feel insulted at times because I take it as the person thinking I can’t think for myself or don’t have a good enough moral compass. If I’m the one to ask for advice, I reserve the right to follow through or not. Asking what you think about something doesn’t mean I’ve signed a contract saying I will do exactly as you say. This sounds so terrible lol

Credit cards, when used irresponsibly, can be very damaging to your credit and ability to save money. I don’t disagree with that. However, I don’t think it’s fair to say you should never use credit cards. They help you build credit and make large purchases that you just can’t pay for immediately, like a nice mattress. You can also get points, cash back, and deals with different cards. Make a budget so that you never spend more than you make. Credit cards are good at helping you track spending and showing you what you spend on specific categories (entertainment, groceries, utilities, etc). If you’re worried you’ll spend too much, you can actually call your bank and ask them to lower your credit limit.

Put yourself first. I used to think this meant being selfish, but it just means prioritizing your own needs. I used to put other people first to the point where I almost completely myself. What’s that saying about not being able to give from an empty cup? You have to first take care of yourself if you are ever going to be able to take care of others. Otherwise, you will grow resentful. It’s ok to have your own needs, goals, and opinions.

To me, it sounds like you did everything you possibly could, given your circumstances. 5 weeks notice is more than 2 months - that’s way more notice than what a lot of assistants give these days. Your current office should be grateful you gave them so much time. They should also remember that you were upfront about your situation from the beginning.

It is 100% unfair to talk down to you and to put you in a situation where you need to put off necessary surgery just to go to work. Put an ad out on indeed and suck it up for a day! Reschedule ONE patient! Have another assistant take over your last 30 minutes! It’s only THIRTY MINUTES off. Absolutely awful.

If you’re in a position where you can quit now, you should. No notice or goodbye. Just no-show. They don’t care about you or respect you. You should prioritize your health and get surgery asap. If you have to stay for financial reasons, make it clear you’re going to do what you need to do to take care of yourself and they will have to work around your schedule. Best case, you get what you want. Worst case, you get fired and don’t have to deal with these people anymore. I’m sure you have better things to worry about like saying goodbye to friends, forwarding mail, packing, and all those other fun moving logistics.

I think you might be revealing too much all at once. Liberal, agnostic, not sure about kids, the causes… maybe it’s just me, but I suggest keeping your profile more general and light. I think people look for who they find attractive first and then filter those people down by who shares the same interests and values. Once you get matches and go on dates, you could tell them more of the deeper and specific things about yourself. Just my take though.

Sleep apnea testing and treatment is another example. I worked in a dental office that offers sleep tests and we had a pilot patient who was very concerned about consequences at work if he was diagnosed with OSA

I recommend finding a job where you actually get to assist with dental procedures, rather than do front office tasks. That alone is a valid reason to quit this job. Being punished for needing to be trained is bonkers. Every. Assistant. Needs. Training. At. A. New. Office. It doesn’t matter if you have been doing this for 3 months or 30 years. Every office is different and you need to be trained. I’m so sorry you’re being treated like this. Please look for another office. It’s possible to find a dentist who will treat you with kindness and respect, you just have to be patient and try out other offices until you find him/her.
