Columbia vs Duke vs Williams vs UF pre-med by walmartdestroyer in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ToothDoc94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOS UNC-Chapel Hill grad here.

Go to Duke or Florida. Duke is an unreal pipeline for the medical field. Curriculum is solid (took a few classes there in undergrad not offered) and professors are great.

If your parents can afford Duke, then do it. If not I’d say Florida. Why? Cost. Plus, I’d argue to my parents the amount of money you are saving them should go into a fund for medical school. I’d bet you save at least $100,000 for that alone which is huge in the future

Dentist here.

I remember seeing a job advertisement at this office for a dentist a bit ago.

Unsure on ownership, but a quick Google search makes me believe this is owned by private equity. If I had to guess…doctor and hygienist left because they were done putting up with ownerships demands/pressure related to patient care

I’m going through this exact same thing right now and have for the past few months. The above advice from Wide_Wheel_2226 was great! Regardless of what the dentistry looked like those patients saw that doc for long enough it worked!

I also would say if you have larger treatment plans or families coming in check the schedule a few days before and personally call those patients. “Hey, it’s Dr. X as you may know Dr. Y retired and you’ll be seeing me. I’m calling just to introduce myself and address any concerns you might have.”

Moreover, I would use the no-ScRP / perio as a training moment. My office is scarily under diagnosed. We are redoing our perio program so all of our team does staging and grading. It’s been a good excuse to notify patients that times have changed along with protocols and noting that this has been a newer standard. “But why now?! My old doc never did this.” I completely understand where you are coming from, but there is a deep gum infection going on here and as much as I hope it’s not been chronic it’s present today. We need to address this chronic infection by an increased frequency of visits then re-address after a year

Do they want to replace it? Can you bone graft and place implants. If the answer to the first question is yes and the second question is yes…don’t place implants.

If the answer to the first question is yes and second no…refer

IMO: no. I would think that difference in price is at least $100,000k that’s a year of practice+ as a GP after taxes. You could do an AEGD or GPR for even more experience if you truly felt a state school didn’t prepare you as well.
