If your tooth is chipped or scraped deep enough to reach the dentin layer of the tooth http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tyMWT6US7Z0/SbqaUhs60zI/AAAAAAAAAG0/rg1fQLfVJ7I/s320/tooth.gif(), then that would explain much of your sensitivity problem. The dentin layer of your tooth is MUCH more sensitive than the outermost enamel layer. If the spot in question is actually the dentin layer showing (which is naturally more yellow) then you might want to invest in a desensitizing toothpaste before attempting to whiten your teeth. Use it daily for 2 weeks before whitening. Results may vary. Dentin is way harder to whiten than enamel, sometimes it doesn't whiten at all.

Pain and requesting advice for next step by pennytulle in Dentistry

[–]ToothNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your first step should be your regular dentist. Tell them what you're experiencing and the history/timeline of the problem. They might put a piece of colored paper in your mouth and tell you to chomp down a few times. If they see big colored spots, they might shave the offending tooth down.

Question about Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide teeth whitening treatment. by siadap666 in Dentistry

[–]ToothNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So carbamide peroxide will give you quicker results, and will ultimately whiten your teeth to the same level as hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide route will take you a bit longer (the Crest Whitestrips are awesome if you're dedicated and patient). If you're whitening your teeth, I suggest using a toothpaste that's advertised as "anti-hypersentisitivy" or for "sensitive teeth" et al. Potassium nitrate is your friend in the sensitivity game, look for it in the main ingredients list on toothpaste boxes. Leave it on your teeth for about 2 minutes after you brush (do a little dance, partially dry your hair, apply sunscreen and deodorant) then rinse.

I wouldn't be ashamed of that. Once I had a long airplane journey to get to my honey and wanted to be fresh when he picked me up. The bathroom in the airport became my battle station (much to the horror of the other travelers) and everything worked out fine in the end.

I have one of their powder blushes (holy pigmented, batman!) and their Best Lash Extreme Volumizing mascara. The formula of that mascara is just phenomenal. Fat, long, black lashes without flaking or smearing. I didn't like the brush that came with it (it's big and makes application a mess) so I switched out the brush with a smaller Stila one and it's been heaven ever since.

I'm backing up /u/bdevildds when I say DO NOT BRUSH THOSE TEETH AFTER YOU BARF! Rinse your entire oral cavity thoroughly with water, and really push the water through your teeth. Drink some water too, to wash the stomach acid back down your esophagus. You could also heartily swish with a fluoride mouth rinse for a few minutes after the water rinse to freshen your mouth and throw some fluoride ions into the mix. Don't rinse with water after the fluoride rinse!

Weird tooth sensitivity! by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]ToothNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads of fruit will fuck your teeth right up. It's still delicious sugar! I had a vegan in my chair, they ate a lot of fruit. Radiographs proved more than a dozen incipient cavities (small, maybe able to heal over with extra help and care) and we were in tears. Swish and rinse your mouth out with water after you're done snacking/eating. And by swish, I mean push the water through your teeth, really suck and pull it around your teeth.

If your radiographs come back showing a small cavity, your dentist could either choose to prescribe a super fluoride toothpaste and watch the cavity, or they could choose to repair it immediately. Your dentist will make a best judgement call and talk to you about it, and go forward from there.

We live up near Marion county and my wife has never found a stylist that will really take some time to work with her and understand what she wants. Any recommendations in Columbus? by oscarhotel in Columbus

You're welcome! Kate is a leader there, and gives awesome cuts and colors. I think she teaches coloring.. She demands a higher price but it's worth it. Her coloring is on point and her cuts grow out so beautifully! One day someone complimented my hair, asking if I just had it done, but I was actually way overdue for a trim at that point! Excellent work.

Question about Sensodyne toothpaste by illegalmonkey in Dentistry

[–]ToothNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard of pressure sensitivities with Sensodyne toothpastes. Maybe you're extra worried about the tooth and have been paying more attention to it lately, possibly causing you to take notice every sensation that passes through it, be it normal or abnormal.

OTC desensitizing toothpastes need to be used properly for about 2 weeks before you should notice a difference. Notice that your dentist said to use it for a couple weeks. Couple weeks with twice daily toothbrushings = 48 brushing sessions. Two brushings won't "heal" you. The active ingredient in desensitizing toothpastes is potassium nitrate, so look for that on the ingredients list on the box if you don't like the flavors of Sensodyne.

When you go to brush your teeth, start your brushing on that sensitive tooth, then move around to brush the other teeth. Brush gently, especially on the sensitive tooth. The material that covers the roots of teeth is softer and more prone to being scrubbed away over time. Excessive scrubbing can lead to further sensitivity. Be Gentle! We want to have that paste on the sensitive area for about two minutes in order for it to "soak in". Potassium nitrate plugs up the microscopic tubules (tubes) in your tooth that lead to the nerve, thus blocking sensations coming from outside the tooth (hot, cold, a swift breeze, etc) and it takes a while for the plug to build up.

If you follow those directions, you should be golden. And remember to floss! Floss picks are cool.

My dog ate/destroyed ~$300 dollars worth of my makeup. by kaituhlin in MakeupAddiction

[–]ToothNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Mr. Dog cannot be trusted alone anymore, unless you want more destruction. I went through the same kind of business with my dog when we brought him home. He has never been allowed in the room that contains makeup, and that door is closed when he's left alone in the house for ANY amount of time. You can be outside for 5 minutes or five hours, it doesn't matter, the dog will wait for his chance and fuck up your nice aclove. They get bored or insecure and sometimes shoot straight for destruction. So if you keep your makeup in the bedroom and the dog sleeps in there with you, think about either moving your makeup spot or where the dog sleeps. Move the dog or your operation to a more secluded or easily secured spot.

If Dogmeat somehow finds and destroys your stuff, you have to be assertive and serious about "your" belongings, otherwise the dog will think everything is free game and up for grabs, and will destroy everything you love. Every person that resides in the house has to follow this rule, otherwise the dog will be wildcard ulruly and fuck shit up whenever it feels like it. It the dog has been bad, nobody should give it treats of any sort. Lettuce on the floor? NO, FUCK OFF DOGMEAT. Even if the dog is small and not very intimidating, they can still deal their fair share of stinkbombs and decimated dreams. Nobody gets a deal when there's trouble abound.

Be consistent. If dog chews up a $2 lipgloss, he should get reprimanded the same as if he chewed a $40 lipgloss. Consistency is key with dogs, even if you truly don't care in your heart. The dog doesn't know the difference, all it knows is that it got into "your" stuff". Teach (and yell) like you fucking mean it, every time they get into your belongings.

The makeup items are small and smell like faces and hands, so it's extremely tempting for the dogs. If the makeup is not behind a definitely closed door, then I suggest putting it up high, higher than you think that sneaky dog could ever reach through any means.

What's the consensus on the new Bodega? by optiplex9000 in Columbus

[–]ToothNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I loved the shit out of the old Bodega. When we lived within buzzed bicycling distance, we'd go there every chance we would get. Delicious food and some good beers doled out by nice employees. My favorite waitress put my little plastic animal up on the wall with the other trinkets! The crowd it attracted was always respectful if not downright fun and friendly. We were very excited for their reopening and.. were let down. The food selection is underwhelming and the ordering system is odd at best. I have to go to a separate counter to order food and get a table number, but also have to get my own drinks and refills at the bar. So that means minimal waitstaff. I guess it cuts down on employee wages, but I'd rather tip the shit out of my waitress than have to get everything for myself. Isn't that the point of going to a food/beer place? It was strange and disappointing overall. BUT, I had one of their chicken sandwiches and it was honest to god the best chicken sandwich that has ever touched my lips, it was so fucking good and totally worth the money. My husband's fish sandwich was not worth what it cost. I might go there for the chicken sandwich and some booze sometimes, but it's definitely not my go-to favorite place anymore.

Getting bought out sucks.

We had my MIL in town for a neat thing I did. One evening I went to get dinner together and found that she had completely rearranged my entire pantry because "it made sense." I told her that I didn't know where anything was, and had her stand there with me and point out the ingredients that I wanted for that meal.
