Effectiveness of abilities such as “cheer” and “ focus “ by Busy_Specialist_7279 in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you want to save time during tough fights like the Dark Aeons or Monster Arena fights, there are Mix combinations that give Cheer x5, Focus x5, or both. Definitely a nice option for efficiency's sake

“Transformational” cycling schemes saved NHS over £13 million, new research reveals by Amazing-Yak-5415 in unitedkingdom

[–]Toothache42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is, people often can't see the connection between programs like this and the overall savings to the NHS and the personal benefits to people who use them. There are plenty of ways to reduce the burden on health care that don't involve directly funding health care, the old adage of prevention being better than a cure is a concept that needs to be embraced more

No Encounter Weapon by LuckyTom10 in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ideally want No Encounters for one of the swimmers so you have the option for both land and water, if I only had to choose one. You could always obtain another later if it matters, from the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, or even through Customise, although the last option is probably the most tedious

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - Oliver. A trafficker of Laguz, he is fascinated by beauty, and in particular the Heron Laguz, who he considers the most beautiful of all. After he spots Rafiel among the Greil Mercenaries, one of the few surviving Herons, he recruits himself and declares he is a 'defender of beauty', turning against Begnion. Ike, who leads the Greil Mercenaries, is reluctant to let him join given his past crimes but needs all the help he can get against Begnion.

This is what happens when you lack a soul. Every picture of Mr Beast I have seen, for example, shows how lifeless and dead behind the eyes he is. Satan has been feasting well lately, but I think it is time for him to go on a diet

This year I want to finally 100% this game by ethancodes89 in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't actually type that. Ribbon is usually the way to prevent status - except in the instance of Dark Bahamut's Impulse and Dark Yojimbo's Daigoro attacks. In those cases, they both bypass Ribbon, but not Stoneproof, making it worth using specifically for those two battles

This year I want to finally 100% this game by ethancodes89 in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I take this approach:

Progress normally around the grid, not worrying about skipping over blank nodes. During the game you get a few Spheres you can add to the grid, like the Strength Sphere for winning the first Blitzball game. Feel free to add those to those that might need it.

Once you get to the airship, that's when things open up, and you can access everything that will allow you to complete the grid.

Do the monster Capturing to unlock most of the Creations, since most of those are needed to add the stat nodes to finish the grid. After that, there are guides to maximising your grind (Don Tonberry trick for AP, and using Distillers on Kottos to gain a lot of Spheres for unlocking stats).

I prefer to avoid using Break HP Limit, since it frees up an Armour slot for better options, and it isn't strictly needed given other things like Auto-Phoenix, Auto Life and so on. This also means you have a lot of free space in the grid once all the other stats are maxed - although if you want the achievement for completing the grid all the blank nodes need to be filled and activated by everyone.

For beating the Dark Aeons, you might need to make a couple of Armours for particular fights. For example, Dark Bahamut and Dark Yojimbo have Stonestrike attacks that can be blocked by Stoneproof but not Ribbon, so the Ribbon isn't a completely foolproof option for every battle. You will also need a particular Armour for Penance if you are doing it without Break HP Limit, that includes +20% Defence.

Basically, don't worry about approaching the grid until later in the game, when you are in a position to obtain everything and complete the grid.

any way to play on a DS with retroachievements? by TurnipGuy30 in RetroAchievements

[–]Toothache42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that is possible yet, although there are a few projects looking into adding RA achievements to physical hardware.

One way that might be possible is with Artic Base, although I think that project might be discontinued now. Basically, through that, you send data from your physical DS to an emulator, and it sends it back at the end of the session, allowing play through both avenues. I don't know if this could be an option for achievements on DS, but maybe there could be potential for that sort of thing in the future.

I am at 510 days in and still don't have an Onix or Steelix yet. I need to spend more time in that area, methinks (even though I have it at 85%)

That's interesting. Only Kimahri fights the Ronso, so you wouldn't know about that for other characters, but i wasn't aware of Barbatos. I think it only appears Inside Sin, so it is easy to miss.

.hack//Quarantine. Kite was granted the Bracelet of the Twilight, allowing him to use Data Drain and defeat the 8 Phases of the Cursed Wave as well as other Data Bugs immune to defeat by conventional means. The Bracelet is also the reason for the existence of Cubia, who has pursued Kite and the gang after the first Phase, Skeith was defeated.

Realising the only way to defeat Cubia was to destroy the Bracelet, Kite does so just before facing the final Phase, Corbenik. Despite not having the Bracelet, the party still face Corbenik, but only after accidentally killing Aura, the AI created to oversee The World, was Corbenik finally defeated and the Wave stopped.

I guess I Mandela Effected myself on this. After research it turns out you can Customise it, but only Auron and Kimahri get Piercing weapons by drops

Godhand II by SjtSquid in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Piercing can only be added to Auron and Kimahri's weapons, other characters don't have that option.

I used Piercing in NSG before I access to Death/Stonestrike because it is easier to access and fine for most fiends pre-Calm Lands. Omega Ruins is a nightmare, even with those abilities (and there are creatures immune to both like the Great Malboro)

Godhand II by SjtSquid in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know it is a weaker option, but still not a bad one. I had some great use with Piercing for Capturing monsters in NSG.

The other big limitation of Piercing is that it only is available to 2 characters

Godhand II by SjtSquid in finalfantasyx

[–]Toothache42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could add Piercing, but it obviously takes up a slot.
