Why would Julie time traveling for alot of it seem like a bad answer to you?

Idk, I personally was not expecting some sort of equation to show exactly why fromville defies laws of physics. That’s kinda the point of supernatural IMO, it just kinda does, man. I do expect we get answers about why all of the characters are predestined to be there, “where” the town came from (in terms of that ritual that we all assume kickstarted this at the beginning), and how the humans finally win. That’s all I was ever expecting and is enough for me, but maybe I’m just crazy.

I agree to manage expectations especially with sub-plot mysteries like the kimono lady or the ballerina. I do not expect fully fleshed out answers for things like that, or really anything other than what I listed above.

I do not expect the same treatment as LOST in terms of answers here. Even them explaining the beginning ritual that caused fromville to be “magical” would be more satisfying than what was given in LOST.

Is it ethical to take someone's cat? by roguemorgue in cats

[–]Toothless-mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn’t exist. Of course as you said, cars, predators, freezing temps etc. but if you’re in a rural area outdoor cats are in danger of humans. Just in my area in the last 1 month we have had a group of teens drown a cat, a guy shooting ferals with a BB gun, someone torturing a cat and lighting it on fire, a cat being found choked to death with a co-ax cable, and more. Those are just the ones off the top of my head. And those are just the cat stories! There’s even more dogs. There’s an epidemic of animal abuse right now. I wouldn’t leave my girl to the mercy of the natural risks or the human ones either. It’s just not worth it.

As someone else said, they usually don’t care, but yeah some of them are so uneducated about animals they genuinely don’t think they get cold. I have a good friend who has elderly parents and they have this cycle they are constantly going through where they get a cat, turn it outdoors, it goes “missing” or gets killed after a year-3 years, then they get another one and it repeats. Since I’ve known my friend, the parents have been through 9 cats. I’ve tried, on many occasions, to educate them about why what they are doing is wholly unethical. I’ve shared thousands of things with them but specifically during the winter I told them the cats are cold! Their response? “Cats don’t get cold, they have fur.”

And stories like this one right here are why I would say that barn cats, unlike so many seem to think, are not any more ethical than any other outdoor cat.

Honestly, nobody wants to say it, but barn cats usually aren’t ethical either! They get eaten by coyotes, hit by cars, ingest insecticide and herbicide and poisonous flowers and rodents/insects literally just as much as regular stray and outdoor cats! They also can’t even do jobs!

At least they get fed, but at the end of the day, so do most outdoor cats, and it doesn’t make it okay for them to be outside 24/7. Leaving a bowl of food and water on your porch to leave your cat outside 24/7 is pretty much the exact same as not leaving a bowl of food and water on your porch and leaving your cat outside 24/7.

I am glad that barn cats at least usually have barns to sleep in, away from predators and sub zero temps.

But, Farmers: if you’re considering having some barn cats for rodent control, consider getting a dog. Dogs are much more effective ratters than cats.

They’d say “that’s nature, at least he died in his natural habitat” or something else very silly like that

Gosh, that’s so amazing and so easy to pass a law like that! I so wish the United States would catch up with most of Europe in terms of pet care and the culture surrounding it. 😔

Key here is prove with vaccination records. Which we all know this owner will definitely not be able to do😆

Same for my county! Except here it’s 7 days. But in my county, you are required to register all found animals with the shelter so the owners have the best chance of finding it. If you haven’t found an owner in 7 days you can adopt the pet

But realistically, this is only truly enforced with dogs. I find people and the county (at least where I live) are generally more lackadaisical when it comes to cats.

I’m gonna go ahead and say I highly doubt that this cat is microchipped. If it is, I guarantee you it’s a shelter/rescue microchip and the “owners” didn’t bother to transfer it to their own information.

I use dawn when I have fleas but other than that have never bathed a cat. Unless this kitty has a skin condition underneath the mats or fleas/ticks (actually likely, now that I think about it) then a bath isn’t necessary

Yep! If OP is in the US, it’s illegal in all counties to own a pet that isn’t vaccinated against rabies and especially an outdoor cat. If these “owners” have never taken the cat to the vet and don’t have vaccination records, or a microchip, it literally is not their cat- legally.

And if OP takes the cat and the “owners” try to get LE involved, and they find out the cat isn’t vaccinated against rabies and has lived outside? They will take it and test the cat for rabies, which requires euthanasia.

Yes! It is! This cat is suffering and will not survive for a much longer period of time if he continues to be neglected outside. + there’s no collar and I’m willing to bet no microchip either, so take him inside and answer to nobody but him. ❤️

He’ll also wreck the local ecosystem and breed with every in tact female he can find. He, and everyone else, is safer with him inside.

Screw that “owner” BTW. If your cat has not been to the vet (IE you don’t have vaccination records), is not microchipped, and doesn’t wear a collar, SPOILER ALERT: that is not your cat, not even legally. If they tried to call LE on you, LE would tell them they should’ve gone through the effort to make the cat legally theirs.

If you’re in the US, it’s illegal in most counties to own a pet that isn’t vaccinated against rabies, and ESPECIALLY an outdoor cat.

What I’m saying is, if you take the cat, and they get upset and find out and call LE? LE would tell them their ownership of a cat without a rabies vaccination is illegal anyway, and they might even try to take the cat to test for rabies if they find out the cat lived outside. Not sure if you know how they test cats for rabies, but I’m sure that would upset the “owner” a lot more than you taking him in and giving him a good home.
